Chapter Text
Utahime stares off into the horizon, her black hair moving with the small breeze. Her shoeless feet in the short grass.
It was a nice day. (like everyday) Blue skies with almost no clouds.
“Oh my clematis,” She sings softly, her eyes closed softly like an angel, “hope bloomed from the abyss.”
“Oh my clematis,” Utahime opens her eyes in shock but not fast. She looks over to see Shoko, standing next to her, singing along as her eyes were closed now, “always be by my side.”
Shoko smiles warmly as she looks over at Utahime. They stand next to each other, staring at each other instead the horizon now.
Years later, they stand side to side on a stage, lights on them. In pretty outfits and faces full of sweat from performing.
“You bloom from the huge black hall.” Utahime sings, staring off into the crowd with a small smile.
“The galactic starlight.” Shoko sings as she looks slightly down, opening her eyes halfway.
“In your eyes spreads out,” Utahime sings back into the crowd, through she really only cares about being with Shoko, “in the endless darkness.”
Back when they were still kids Utahime would run along with Shoko down to the lake. Shoko would catch the robot fishes, which never failed to make Utahime laugh. That would always bring a smile to Shoko’s face.
“I find you with your scent.” Utahime continues to sing as she thought about her past days with Shoko.
“Even if I sleep in infinity.” Shoko sang as she also began to think of the old days.
Like when they would show how they passed their singing/performance tests. They were always happy for each other. Sometimes Shoko would hug Utahime so hard they felling onto the ground, laughing.
“Don’t leave my universe” Utahime continues to sing, all in her mind being when they were kids. She sang into the microphone as she closed her eyes.
“Oh my clematis,” They sing together as they turn to look at one another. They stare into the other’s eyes longingly, “hope bloomed from the abyss.”
“Oh my clematis,” They sing again as their scores get shown above, “always be by my side.”
“Round 1. Shoko vs Utahime” it shows on the holographic chart. Pictures of them that seemed to be taken when they were kids were above their names.
‘Do you believe in god?’ Shoko thinks to no one in particular, ‘Once upon a time, mankind believed in God, and had religion.’
As she thought she could hear Utahime sing “Ah-Ah-Ah” softly.
‘They believed that things that cannot be solved by human strength,’ Shoko continued to think, ‘are the will of god. Believed that the entire universe revolved around the Earth.’
As she kept thinking she would remember random things from when she was a kid. Like how she would lay in the grass with Utahime, holding hands.
‘Thought that the place that connected with the sky, which they could not dare reach,’ Shoko remembered how they would laugh together on that ground, ‘was the place where the gods lived.’
‘From the moment humanity left the universe, we all forgot god,’ Shoko thought of the humans who became pets.
‘But if belief in god in human,’ Shoko’s thoughts became more raw, even though they were just thoughts, as she remembered in singing practice. She looked over at Utahime from across the room, ‘if all I can do as a human is to believe.’
‘My god,’ Shoko thought the second Utahime’s face appeared in her head, making a silly face as they practiced singing. Shoko comes back to reality, still thinking, but looking at Utahime smiling next to her now, ‘my universe.’
As they sang together the holographic scores became bigger, as the end of the round slowly came.
Shoko-87. Utahime-86.
The curses cheer dies down just a tiny bit as they watch the scores with awe.
Shoko and Utahime smile as they look at each other more sweat on their face. Then something other than sweat gets on Shoko’s face. Blood. Utahmine’s to be exact.
Shoko’s eyes widened as she drops to her knees staring at her deceased loved one.
Utahmine had lost. The price to pay for the was her life.
“Oh my clematis,” Shoko continues to sing but with a hold back sorrow in her voice, “hope withered in the abyss”
The curses’ cheers louden, getting spit everywhere. Their arms waving in the air as the round ends.
“Oh my clematis,” Shoko sings as she sits on the floor looking down, “please stay by my side.”
A guard walks up and puts the white collar back on, the dot glowing red to show it’s locked. The round was over so the curses needed to make sure she doesn’t do anything.
“My clematis.” Shoko sings slowly for a final time, the blood still sitting on her face.
