First Impressions

Summary:

Envyward has to make a supply run that quickly goes south. Turns out there are more violent creatures in the island than he thought. AKA the story of how Envyward and Madward first met. It isn’t the happiest of meetings..

Notes:

tw for mentions of torture and blood

So, my first fic!! Please be nice, let me know if there are any tags I should add to this, as I have NO clue how to do this, and enjoy some light angst :D

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Envyward pushed the latest victim volunteer through the hallways of the department, as he laments at the amount of work he’ll have to do when he finishes acting as a transport for the doctor’s latest creation.

“I understand Morose has great plans for us, but all of this is just such fuss!”

“All this gore I’ll have to clean, it’s enough to make anyone mean,” Envyward grumbled.

He turned the key in the padlock to the new cell room’s occupant. Walking into the procedure room, the sight nearly turns his stomach. Nearly. Just another chore to do. Get over it. Now where did they keep the cleaner again…?

He stomps down the pathway to the shed with all the cleaning supplies. He honestly wonders why it’s even so far outside the lab, given how often it was needed to clean out the smell of blood all the lab tools. The lanterns dim light barely lit 5 feet in front of him, and he was wary of the creatures that roamed the island. Who knows what manner of beastfolk still roam around? Let alone any new tests the Doctor has made…

Well, not much he can do know, is there? He’s sure the Doctor would inform him anyways. He realizes he reached his destination. The old shack lets out a groan as the wooden door swings open. He grabs the orange topped cleaning spray and a rag that smells like vinegar.

Scrrtch…

A long, slow scraping of nails on wood. Possibly one of the test subjects? He knew he would have to deal with them eventually, sooner or later, so might as well make the island at least a little more manageable. Envyward sets down the supplies, grabs his lantern and turns just to see-

.

.

.

A monster.

Its face! The eyes sockets were empty, but Envyward could see the scratch marks surrounding the thing’s eyes. It looked like it was crying blood. The smile was forced, almost mad.

The creature’s clothes are ragged, bathed in blood, and look strangely similar to the outfit he wore before his untimely hiring.

Its limbs are long and elongated, bleeding at the joints as its pale skin tears as if the arms had been strapped to a medical torture machine and been unnaturally stretched out.

And they were swiping at him now!

As the lantern fell onto the ground, Envyward felt blood well up from the scratches on his chest. His lungs felt like they were imploding. Grabbing his lantern, he threw it at the beast as the lamp shattered and bathed its clothes in burning oil. He sprinted down the path as the person? monster screamed as it turned to face him, long limbs out for a new kill.

Before he can register the movement, he’s pinned to the ground as the monster claws at his limbs in a frenzy, the blazing fire illuminating the scene. Sharp teeth clamp down upon his leg, drawing blood. Envyward begins to struggle and try to hit the things face and free himself from its grasp.

“Let me go, you fiend!

My job is tough enough, without your choice to intervene!”

The fire on the shirt had spread to him, burning his arms as they swung at the monstrous form. His vision blurred as tears were brought to his eyes, but he couldn’t stop. His life depended on it.

He is going to die

He is going to die

He is going to die

He is going to-

Finally, the pain became too much for the brute, and it wailed as it rushed away to the thick undergrowth, patting its chest as it most likely looked for easier prey. Envyward dashed over to the entry of the labs, grasping for the nearest fire extinguisher. As he fumbled with the nozzle, he heard the being’s wails echo through the forest.
And he sat there, dazed, covered in powdery chemical foam and ash and blood, he had a feeling that this wouldn’t be the last time he saw the humanoid in the woods.

Notes:

I know he doesn’t have his mechanical octopus like arms, but I wrote the story before remembering them, soo I’m just gonna say this happens before the doctor ‘gives’ them to him.
