Work Text:

Scarring myself on the candle,

Holding my quill in delight,

Somewhere along my descending

I am afraid you were right.

I misunderstood the assignment

And sent my heart sailing astray.

How I wish I could go and find it,

But, surely, it’s not in my way

My path that is taking me somewhere

Should not really lead me to you,

But Fate is the strongest advisor

And heartstrings are coloured in blue

But now in the snows of December,

Amidst all the dimmest of lights

I can’t help myself and remember

What you said to me that night

“If you wish to know all the answers,

Be sure not to blow out the light.”

The metal still clicks with the sun down

And I feel its presence behind

So now, as the faintest of shivers

From cold takes its run down my spine,

The voices I thought were forbidden

Still jingle inside of my mind

They say it is imagination,

But difference begs to appear.

With your softest words I am stable,

From snowstorms I’ll be steering clear.

Here now in the days of December,

Amidst all the brightest of lights

I can’t stop my heart, I remember

What you whispered to me that night

“If there’s any power above us,

Let it not mess with your paths.

Invictum become, you, the strong one,

Remember that this too shall pass.”
