Work Text:
don't beat your wings against your cage, violet mockingbird,
i know how much you long to see the sun,
to see your family that you hold so dear,
just wait, your freedom will come
i know you remember your crimes, sly mockingbird,
but you killed so your family could see the sun,
to bring food on the table, to help your mother,
but look at you now, now on the run
but don't worry, you're safe here, dear mockingbird,
do you really need to see the sun?
here, the moon illuminates our tall brick walls,
abyss grants you a different kind of freedom
everyone is like family here, kind mockingbird,
they don't need to see the sun,
we're all close and support one another,
we raise our glasses and laugh as one
you can make friends here, young mockingbird,
i know your old friends have seen the sun,
you can be with new friends here, kids like you
giggling and playing, having lots of fun
i understand your pain, broken mockingbird
how you want to take revenge on those that see the sun
on those that took your loved ones away from you,
hurt you, bounded you
in a silver cage; your freedom will come
but you must help me, clever mockingbird
i do wish to see the sun
i have a plan, one i have thought for years
i need your wits, and my work will be done
it must be a secret, quiet mockingbird
on how i plan to see the sun
it must only be between you and me
not a single soul should know, not even one
i hurt you hard, broken mockingbird
your classmates wish to see the sun
but see, it's either me, or them -
i need this plan, my job is almost done
you saw through my plan, cunning mockingbird
i never wished to see the sun
but see my pain, my longing for love
i kept you safe, raised you like a son
do not worry, violet mockingbird,
you don't need to see the sun
you've made space to stretch your wings here
you have a newfound family here,
protect them all, and no more will you need to run.
