Work Text:
The knight is just up ahead, the final battle is waiting to begin, this is it, isn't it? Then suddenly… you’re filled with the power of uncertainty.
Your friends are walking towards the knight, with the determination to end this for once, and the decision to at the very least get a better ending of it all, you're following just the same. Your body forces you to go forward, as it always does.
But here... you don’t do as it says, and your body stops going, putting all your will onto that one simple act. You watch your friends continue as you stop, they haven't noticed. Or maybe they did but have the faith that you'll continue eventually. But you don't. You continue to stay right where you are.
Once they finally understand that you are not going, they turn around to face you. They’re both speechless, staring intensely at you, slowly realizing what your lack of movement means. Susie’s eyes blow wide, furrowing her eyebrow, while holding onto her axe so tightly her hands started to shake, as she’s already in position to fight, clearly holding back. Ralsei has his hands crossed behind his back. And his eyes, looking glassy, still staring at you as if to try and convince you to do something else, anything else.
Upon realizing it is all in vain, he turns his head to gaze to the ground, and just like Susie, prepares to fight, whilst you can't tell if he’s holding back as much as she is... You don’t blame him.
Looking at them right now is the most painful part, not defying the will that controls you, but having to follow through with your promises, hurting everyone you loved.
You take a deep breath, lock your gaze to the earth beneath you, and move forward. Although this time, not alongside your mates, but alone towards the dark, that may seem like nowhere at all.
Your head is a mess, you can barely hear anything, even then, you feel the cries of the people behind struggling to reach you. You decide to ignore everything that is not fulfilling your duty, they don’t matter anymore. Nothing matters anymore. Did it ever?
Once you reach your destination, the knight puts one of its hands onto your shoulder, while you're still looking at the ground. Right after, the other is used to stab the earth one last time, it seems she'll finally draw her final breath.
