Chapter 1: SB1

Chapter Text

Why?

If I don't continue... it won't disappear... it won't leave...

"How long are you going to put everyone else before yourself?"

I know... I know... but... I... I'm a superhero.

It's my responsibility to make sure everyone else is safe.

"So... you chose them over me?"

No... NO. That's not what I meant... I-

"Stop it. Just stop."

I... please forgive me.

"....everyone deserves a second chance... but maybe you don't need one."

Don't... DON'T!!!

SHINE BAKERY

*******

KRING!

The sound of the bell startled him awake from where he had dozed off in his chair.

Huff... huff...

He gently patted his chest before getting up from his seat.

"Welcome..."

He walked toward the counter, his eyes looking at the customer who had just entered the cafe.

SHINE BAKERY

A cafe that had been established three years ago.

It sold various types of bread and drinks.

There were no other employees there. There was only the cafe owner.

He was the one who made the bread, prepared the drinks, and handled the cashier.

He did everything in the cafe all by himself.

A customer approached the counter and placed a tray filled with bread on it.

"Is that all?"

"Yes... oh! I want one iced latte... and a hot cocoa..."

He nodded. The bread was packed into a plastic bag.

"That'll be twenty-five ringgit... cash or card?"

"Cash..."

The customer handed him RM25.

"Please wait a moment. I'll call you when your drinks are ready."

"Okay, sure."

The customer immediately sat down on one of the chairs provided.

She looked around the peaceful atmosphere of the cafe.

This was her first time visiting the cafe after seeing reviews about the place.

Everyone said the bread here was delicious, and the prices were cheap too.

The owner was also nice, although judging from his appearance, he didn't look very healthy.

Kring!

The bell above the door rang, indicating another customer had entered.

"Welcome."

Even though he was busy making drinks, he still greeted the customer who entered his cafe.

A few minutes later, the drinks were finally ready.

"Miss, your drinks are ready."

The girl immediately stood up and took her drinks.

"Thank you!"

"You're welcome...have a nice day.."
A smile formed on his face before he returned to the counter to serve the other customers.

Ding dong! Ding dong!

The sound of the clock echoed throughout the cafe.

"Big brother!"

Hm?

Hearing the voice, he immediately went to the counter.

Each loaf of bread was scanned before being placed into a plastic bag.

"That's ten ringgit..."

The money was placed on the table, and he counted it first.

"Is it enough, big brother?"

"Not enough... three more ringgit."

Auww!

The little boy pouted as he searched through his pants pockets for more money.

"Big brother... it's not enough... this is all I brought," he said softly.

Hmm...

"Next time, bring enough money. I'll pay for you this time, but not next time," he said firmly.

"Okay, big brother! Thank you, and I'm sorry! Next time I'll make sure I bring enough money!"

"....You're welcome..."

The plastic bag was taken, and the boy immediately ran out of the cafe.

Haaa...

Kring!

"Welcome-"

"Boboiboy."

Hearing his name being called, he immediately left the counter and walked toward his grandfather.

"Why did you come here, Atok?" he asked as he pulled out a chair for Tok Aba to sit down.

With a soft sigh, Tok Aba sat down.
His grandson sat across from him.

"I just came to visit you... Atok was thinking of taking a vacation here. Is that okay?"

"Of course... Do you want anything to eat? Just pick any bread you want... Want something to drink too?"

"Just give me some hot coffee. Give me the best seller here."

He nodded.

Boboiboy immediately stood up and made a cup of hot coffee before taking several of the bakery's best-selling breads.

He placed the tray on the table and sat back down.

Tok Aba picked up the coffee and slowly took a sip of the coffee his grandson had made.

"Erm... delicious..." he praised with a smile before continuing. "How's the cafe? Everything okay? It's been three years since you opened this cafe... how are you doing?"

"...I'm fine, Tok... the cafe is fine, there are lots of customers. Boboiboy is fine too, alhamdulillah, I'm healthy," Boboiboy answered with a thin smile.

Tok Aba knew that behind that smile, his grandson wasn't doing well.

"You look pale... have you seen a doctor?"

"I'm fine, Tok... if I go see a doctor, who's going to take care of this cafe?"

"What's wrong with closing for one day? Ever since you opened this cafe three years ago... you haven't taken a single day off, have you? This cafe is open every day from 10 in the morning until 10 at night. You need to rest too..." he said worriedly.

"Don't worry... Boboiboy is fine. I can still manage the cafe..."

Tok Aba shook his head at his grandson's answer.

"Boboiboy... why don't you hire an employee? At least you can get some rest..."

"...Do I really need one? Boboiboy is more comfortable working alone."

Haa...

"You once said... Atok could ask you for anything and you would fulfill it... so Atok wants you to find an employee."

"Erk... isn't it kind of unfair for Atok to use that promise?"

"You promised you would fulfill anything Atok asked."

Erk...

"Alright... Boboiboy will find an employee..."

"Good... that's my grandson."

The two of them simply smiled.
