Work Text:

Vanitas made a face, sticking his tongue out. He didn’t like eating sweet things. He’d only get it so Noé can have more if he wants, but this time he was being forced to eat tarte tatin Noé made himself.

“Must I really eat this? I don’t have a sweet tooth like you.” Vanitas said, setting his fork down.

“Well, I can’t have the whole thing.” Noé said. “Despite how much I love it.”

“You can go right ahead and eat it all, I won’t judge.” Vanitas offered his tarte tatin to Noé and got up. “I need to go over the file documents the Count gave us and head to bed after. I’m beat after today.” Vanitas stretched his arms over his head, cracking his back.

“Vanitas please wa-” Noé got up to grab Vanitas’s hand, but he pulled away too quickly.

“Quit it.” Vanitas bellowed, back turned. “Enough of this silliness, Noé. Finish it yourself or put it away for later.” Vanitas stormed out of the hotel through the bedroom window, taking the curse bearer files with him to the moonlit rooftops.

Vanitas had ended up falling asleep on the roof that night; his back and neck ached from the position he fell asleep in. He winced, sitting upright, rubbing the soreness from his neck.

“Ah, drat… did I really doze off up here?”

“Vanitas.” Noé appeared behind Vanitas, dressed in his sleeping gown.

“What is it?” Vanitas sounded annoyed.

“I wanted to apologize for last night. I had no idea you don’t like sweet things.”

“Oh, don’t worry about it. I was just tired last night was all.” Vanitas said, standing up and dusting himself off. He walked to Noé, slapping a file to the vampire’s broad chest. “Victoria Durand. That’s our next patient.”

The next couple of weeks passed by, the curse bearers aggressive as ever. Noé, exhausted, had fallen asleep on the couch while waiting for tea Vanitas was preparing, Murr plopped on his master’s abdomen. He attempted to move the Persian cat, but he hissed at Vanitas, Vanitas taking that as a sign to just leave him be. The kettle screamed, the human rushing over to the stove to remove it. He got out two cups, one for him and the other for Noé. He brought the tea over to Noé with a slice of tarte tatin.

Noé groaned in his sleep and turned causing Murr to wake up and seeing Vanitas.

     “…… Nice kitty?”

He swiped at Vanitas, Vanitas stumbling back which caused him to spill the tea on himself.

“HOT!” Vanitas blurted. Quickly he set the empty tea cup down and rushed back to the bedroom, tearing off his wet clothes. “Damn cat.”

“Vanitas?” Noé had woken up to the sound of Vanitas’s scream. Walking into the room, his eyes widened, realizing he’d walked in on Vanitas half naked. There were a few noticeable scars on his exposed skin. Where were they from? Who gave him those scars, Noé wondered. “Oh, uhm,” he averted his gaze, “I heard you screaming, is everything okay?”

“Its fine, everything’s dandy.” Vanitas said sarcastically, putting on a clean dress shirt.

     “Are you sure?” Noé asked.

“Yes.” Vanitas reassured the vampire with a smile, but Noé was still not convinced.

     “Did something happen?” Noé asked.

     “Nope. Nothing happened.”

“Vanitas, please tell me.” Noé pressed, he took the human’s hand, Vanitas looking surprised.

“……It really isn’t important. Nothing happened.” Vanitas pulled his hand away and walked past Noé, taking a spare coat. “I’ve got to pick something up. Don’t wait for me.”

Vanitas strolled down the snowy streets of Paris, lamp posts illuminating the bustling city. The cold air bit at his nose and cheeks. He puffed out a cold breath of air as he sighed and looked at the hand Noé had gently held. His cheeks heated up.

     “He’s so…”

Vanitas stopped in his tracks. He had ended up at a cake shop.

“I’m back.” Vanitas announced. He set a nicely packaged box on the counter then went back to the bedroom finding Noé sleeping peacefully. “Good grief. Well I did tell him not to wait for me.” He pulled the covers up and moved his white tussle of hair out of his face. Suddenly Noé grabbed Vanitas’s arm and pulled him onto the bed.

“N-Noé?!” Vanitas exclaimed. His heart beat fast. Noé had quite a strong grip on him. Tears leaked from his closed eyes.

“Vani… tas…” Noé mumbled in his sleep.

Eh? Is he dreaming about me? Vanitas wondered. “Noé?”

“Mm?” Noé opened his eyes. “Huh? Vanitas?” It took Noé a minute to realize he’d been holding Vanitas close. “Oh, I- uh- sorry!” He sat up, but then Vanitas pushed him back down. “Huh?”

Vanitas bent over, his hair falling over his shoulder and pressed his lips against the vampire’s.

“Mm. Just as I thought.” Vanitas mused to himself, licking his lips. “Your lips are much too sweet.” He kissed Noé again and grinned. “I don’t think I mind this taste.”
