Work Text:

"thatz comforting."

—+—

Skeet and Matt have been friends for a while, shortly after Matt moved in the neighborhood.

They've hanged out a few times at school, mostly because they shared their homeroom and math... AKA, the worst subject in school to ever exist. Matt was way better at math, and overall just... Every subject. Skeet has a huge hatred for that.

Because why did this kid get everything he wanted? Why did he get everything handed to him on a silver platter.

Whatever.

Their friendship was good enough to pass time. Fun too (only when it benefited skeet), considering the fact that Matt caved into anything.

—+—

Another day. Another worksheet being handed out like it was top secret.

Zach stared at the worksheet with boredom, while Matt already started writing down the formulas on the cheap paper. The teacher sat down with a loud creek, some of the kids in the corner giggling.

Being shot a stern look, they stopped shortly after. The humming of the AC going on, the sounds of pencil writing on paper... It all annoyed Zach to no end.

"Are you having trouble?"

Matt whispered, tilting his head with mild concern.

"I'm okay."

Zach whispered back, finally going to pick up his pencil. Writing down the date gingerly, he started on the problems.

The first few were easy—considering the fact that it was the starting of the semester. They didn't have to do much, other than finishing a few simple questions and such...

At least he didn't have to beat himself up this time.

Turned it in with ease, Matt following after. The rest of the period consisted Matt talking to Zach about what they could do to the house, or maybe trying to make a story! That sounds fun.

Like it would ever happen.

Skeet dropped his bag on the floor, flopping down onto the flat mattress. His room wasn't that decorative, only holding a few posters on the wall from his favorite bands. A desk laid abandoned with his computer, staring at the screen.

Today was like... Nothing else; just the usual. Doing some easy assignments, along with learning new lessons in-between. Nothing too hard.

—+—

It's cold.

It's always been cold in his room. Considering the fact they didn't have no heater, and only a AC that blew wind every now and then. He's tried to get a few more blankets other then the thin one he has; however to no avail.

Thinking about it: where did his mom go?

She hasn't been here for a few days. The last appearance of her was at the kitchen, cooking. a small breakfast for herself.

What was it she was cooking again...? Agh, whatever.

Skeet let out a soft sigh, going to cradle his upper arms with his hands as a poor attempt to get himself warm. Like said before; it's never been warm in his room. That's why he usually wears his jacket, but also for various reasons.

Most of them he didn't want to talk about, but long story short; he was a dumb kid. Got into a lot of trouble, falling down all the time, ect...

He looked towards his computer, before finally getting up, sinking down into his chair. He booted up his computer, sounds of it buzzing to life. It showed the logo for a moment, before returning to his home screen.

He grabbed his mouse, going to click onto the logo of Roblox. He just decided to play few games by himself, considering the fact that Matt wasn't even online, or any of his friends for that matter.

—+—

Sleepovers.

Sleepovers, sleepovers. What did he know about sleepovers?

He knew he'd probably be bringing some sleepwear... Maybe his laptop and such, so he could play with Matt. It wasn't that late, as he was only playing for thirty minutes. Yet, the fact that Matt had been nagging and pestering him about getting ready was the reason he finally got up from his chair.

Matt, still typing in the background, said "hurry up."

Jeez, this guy missed him more than any ex after a week from breaking up. And the fact they still see eachother everyday too.

Zach sighed, before packing the last of his clothes that he needed for tonight. Would he need anything else...?

...

It's whatever.

Zach picked himself up from the floor, before walking over to his computer, watching as Matt's Roblox character lap him around like a dog.

"you zure you want me to comez over?"

Zach typed in, hunched over his chair.

"yeah"

"alright. im gonna get goingz."

"okok! cya"

—+—

And there he stood in front of two large doors. Matt's parents never really liked him, or hated him. They just... Show nothing. They probably hated him either way, considering how Skeet treats Matt sometimes (either waywe ball 🤫).

He knocked on the door three times—rather very slowly, making sure to accentuate each knock to be loud and purposeful.

After a brief moment of silence, Matt appeared behind the door as he welcomed skeet (or zachtoo idk) in.

"Hi skeet!"

"Hey."

"You can come up in my room."

—+—

It was a bit chilly outside, but they weren't far from eachother anyway. Just right by... Anywho, focusing on the situation at hand, Matt's mom was in the living room. She glanced behind, putting on a smile.

"Just put your coat on the hangers."

She said, a sweetened tone. Sounded a bit fake.

"Alright..."

Zach muttered to himself, taking his coat off in a haste before hanging it.

"Let's go up to my room!"

Matt shaked Zach's shoulder before going over to grabbed Zach's wrist, dragging him up the stairs. Kind of stings.

"O-okay..."

—+—

After being shown what's around for a brief moment if Zach ever needed to go to the bathroom or get a snack, they soon climb back upstairs to Matt's room.

Matt twisted the doorknob, before unlatching it to eye view (tf did i just write there ?????). Zach took a look around, taking noticing of the mounds of poster on their walls, what he claims, and most of all how his bedroom looked in general.

Way more fancy... Looked a lot more cozier... Ugh.

After a brief moment of Matt staring at Skeet and observing him deeply, he softly uttered

"We're going to have pizza—"

Zach tensed up, shifting over to the side.

"Holy shit, you scared me."

"Oops, sorry!"

"It's... whatever." Zach shook his head." When's it coming?" He glanced over, quizzically wondering.

"I dunno know, whenever we get hungry."

"Sweet."

They stayed silent, letting the transient conversation die down. It was always like this, everytime they met in person. It just felt way better talking online.

Matt moved forward, before closing the door behind him abruptly, Zach tensing up one last time as he looked back.

He always seems to keep scaring Skeet!

—+—

Zach and Matt were watching some stupid romance movie, while eating the pizza Matt had mentioned earlier would come whenever they got hungry.

Zach hated whenever they watched movies (or didhe really?). No, it wasn't the stupid movies they chose, or how Matt was insanely sensitive to sad movies (cried at encanto), it was how clingy he was.

Matt took up every space on whatever surface they were on, always laying on him. Or just on top of it all together. And like how Matt was, Zach has never seen a thing from him. Sure, they changed in front of each other a few times, those being in gym from last year; or just in general.

He's never saw anything... Down there.

Okay, not to seem perverted! He just takes notice of things, like a man he is. Maybe he should stop touching on this topic...

Anywho.

Back to the "Stupid Romance" movie that he so claimed to hate, Matt laid right on top of Zach, arms and legs wrapped around him.

"Could you—ever be more suffocating?" Zach hissed, trying to shove Matt off him.

"Heh, no."

Matt snuggled himself in further. He liked how warm Skeet was.

"You're not going to give up. Are you?"

"No."

Matt grabbed another slice, a rather small one, and took a bite. Zach just scoffed, while Matt gave him a wink.

"Oh!" Matt suddenly spoke. "By the way, my mom got us some ingredients so we can bake some cookies."

"... Huh?"

—+—

After the movie was finished, Zach was dragged to the kitchen. Matt took off his jacket that was originally keeping him warm, hanging it on the side of a nearby chair. His mother and father had already left, leaving only the two boys home alone.

Which, was already trouble at it's finest.

Matt brought out the instructions for cookies from the pantry, laying it flat on the counter.

"Okay, so we need sugar..."

Matt's voice died out.

Zach watched the paper blankly, watching Matt's hand move across the paper, his jaw sharper than ever... Oh, his eyelashes...

Gosh, he was falling for him. For his own best friend.

He can't do that. What'd his father think of him? That his son is gay? His son having interest in his own best friend? His father already didn't care enough about him, he didn't want another reason to be hated for his existence.

But, god, he could never get rid of these thoughts—

"Skeet!" Matt yelled for the last time.

"Ah!" Zach got scared.

"Ahh!!" And so did Matt.

...

Matt giggled, leaning again the counter.

"What's on your mind, Skeet?"

Matt got close, his finger under Zach's chin.

"I-I Uh..." Zach lost his train of thought, eyes looking around frantically.

"Ah, I'm just kidding." Matt annouced, backing away. "Sorry if I got too close." Matt apologized, going back to the instructions.

"Y-yeah, it's fine..." Zach mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. He avoided Matt's gaze purposely, biting his lip.

"Anywho!"

—+—

After a brief moment of Matt and Zach getting the ingredients, Matt got straight to work. Meanwhile, Zach was just... Overwhelmed, to say the least.

More like; What the hell was going on? Like why the fuck was there two bowls.

Ugh, whatever...

"Can you go get the teaspoons, Skeet? They're in the drawer to your left, and should be on the side..."

"Alright.."

Zach opened up the drawer, seeing other household and kitchen items within. To the right was the teaspoons. Now, he had no clue what measurements Matt specifically needed, but he just took the whole set of teaspoons as laid them out.

Zach went back to the dinning table, moving the plate aside as he laid his head down. He was tired after today's events, especially the packing.

He missed this. Feeling warm inside, safe from harm... Everything that a child should be provided, basically.

Yet, he didn't have that at home. Mold in the corner of the walls, old food that stayed rotten in the fridge until the stench got unbearable, the paint cracking off the wall... Sometimes, he ate the paint off the wall just so he could have the feeling of being full.

It smelt like beer and cigarettes in the living room, ashtrasy all over while the TV was on low volume. And his father. Passed out on the couch, drooling from the mouth as flies surrounded the area.

He didn't know when he also took a proper shower...

"Skeet, look! I got the dough done."

Zach groaned, before lifting his head up weakly. He looked down at the cookie dough, looking good as ever.

"Sweet."

"Yep! Do you want to roll them now?"

"Let's do it."

—+—

One was Matt's tray, and one was Skeets.

Together, they rolled the dough into balls, even tasting it in the process. Matt's mother always got mad at him for tasting the dough, but... Who cares? She's not here anyway.

"Taste pretty good!" Matt moaned in satisfaction, leaning against the counter.

"Yup." Skeet nodded in agreement, dipping his finger into the batter once last time.

"Now, time to put them in the oven!"

Matt opened it up, before sliding them inside. Together, they went back upstairs into Matt's room as they waited.

—+—

They both laid side by side, talking to eachother with stories that were never fully explained or finished.

Matt was hidden under the covers, onto his head and arms being visible as he continued to looked at Skeet from afar. Matt has... Never really noticed how chapped and messy Skeets hair was. Perhaps Skeet didn't know how to do his hair. Maybe.

Matt looked over at the edge of his bed, going to look for his chapstick that he threw on the floor. He lets his hand wandered around, his eyebrows scrunching up as he huffed. He couldn't find it.

He digged his hand further, mostly relying on his fingertips to do the work. Finally...

He grabbed ahold of the chapstick, before unscrewing the cap and putting some on his own lips. He looked down at Skeet, his eyelashes already fluttered down and breathing deeply.

Matt was hesitant at first. What if Skeet got uncomfortable? What if he got mad at him for putting it on him? Or worst, what if he just up and left since he appiled it on Skeet?

Matt began to worry as he slowly carried his thoughts away. What if Skeet got mad and just shoved him away, what if Skeet was going to hit him, what if—

...

He didn't realize until just now how much his overthinking could get him. Instead, he just rolled his eyes and applied it to Skeet. Slowly but surely, holding tightly onto his arm.

Soon, Matt was sure to be done.

Matt pulled away and set his hands back on the bed, before going to wrap his arms around Skeet, intending that he was still fully asleep and not awake at all. Plus, the cookies had another ten minutes...

His breathing got deeper, his eyes getting heavier; a yawn getting in between... Wouldn't mind a nap, would he...? He closed his eyes, laying his head on Skeets chest.

Zach looked down, just one small shift as he peeked an eye open. Matt's asleep.

His hand went to cradle his waist, going to feel the loose but cotton like fabric. Matt's close... But not close to where he's breathing into the crook of his neck. He knows that Matt always wants to try and help him, always trying to comfort him, and just has a good heart in general.

Then here comes Zach. He was socially awkward, wasn't the best at school, but was one of Matt's only friends.

Zach digged his hand into his pockets, going ahead and checking the time. Matt said that the cookies had ten minutes left.

"... Two Minutes."

Zach mumbled under his breath, going to shove his phone back into his pocket.

He looked back down at Matt, seeing how peacefully he slept for the short amount of time. Oh, that's right. He put a finger to his lips, a smoothness he'd never feel, right there on his lips. The chapstick really did do wonders...

He gradually put his hand down, afraid to wake Matt for the little time they had—

BEEP!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, there's the cookies.

—+—

Matt rubbed his eyes as he walked down the stairs, meanwhile Zach got the cookies out.

Zach grabbed the spatula and removed the cookies, moving them over to the wire. Soon, they were all removed and transferred over. Matt looked down, leaning again the counter. As before, he was still tired, leaning against Skeet for support.

Zach tensed up, almost falling to the side before catching Matt. Zach stood up just a quickly, going ahead and letting Matt use him as support. Zach tried to spike up a small conversation.

"Tired?" Zach mumbled, stiff in the shoulders.

"Mhm..." Matt nodded, going to bury himself into Zach's neck.

"... Ah." Zach nodded, holding up most of Matt's weight as he grabbed a cookie. He took a small bite, chewing on the piece.

Soft. Chewy, for the most part, but still good.

"... Cookie?" Zach handed out.

"Yeah." Matt uttered under his breath, going to grab the cookie as he took a similar sized bite that Zach just made.

"Good for the most part." Matt was mildly pleasured for the most part. If wasn't the BEST cookie, but it was still pretty good.

"Here." Matt gave the cookie back.

"Hm...?" Zach looked down, tilting his head.

"Take it." Matt nudged the cookie further.

"Oh."

Zach took the cookie, savoring the bite as he put the full thing in his mouth. A way to finish it faster.
