A gentle breeze stirred the foliage of the trees outside your wide-open window, creating a soothing rustling sound. Their languid movements caused patches of light to dance across your skin, flitting across your face and skipping over the gentle contours of your limbs, accompanied by the sound of wind chimes hanging from the window frame.
From where you were seated on the broad window seat, nestled among cushions, your arm lazily hung over the low railing outside of your living room, smoke from your cigarette steadily rising from its shrinking stump.
It was the last day of your vacation, and what had been planned to be a day of napping at the beach, going shopping and whatnot had instead turned into a slow afternoon moping around your apartment. The late summer's afternoon sun had warmed your skin and every sip you took from your wine sunk heavily into your veins, steadily painting a soft blush over your features.
You probably would've dozed off any second if it weren't for the wooden floorboards creaking under the weight of approaching bare feet. You lolled your head to the side, watching as Ren came closer, leaned over you, and placed the ashtray at your side.
"Here."
"Mn," you hummed in acknowledgement. For a moment, they remained bent over you, taking in your heavy-lidded gaze.
"Are you sleepy?" he asked, his eyes shifting down to your lips for just a second before he pulled away and sat down in front of you.
"A little," you replied, stubbing out your cigarette in the ashtray.
With his chin resting in one hand and his eyes fixed on you, Ren's fingers wandered up your shin, tracing small circles around your knee before slowly sliding down again in a soft caress.
"Anything you want to eat tonight?" Ren's voice was calm, making it sound a little lower than usual.
"Not sure. What are our options?"
You left the still-smoldering stub in the ashtray and shifted your gaze towards Ren. The moment your eyes met, he blushed furiously. They quickly—and rather begrudgingly—looked away, suddenly finding the floor far more interesting. You subtly bit down on the inner side of your lower lip.
"I could make pasta."
"Sounds good."
Their hand hesitantly found the wrist of your now-unoccupied hand, gently pulling it towards them. You felt the urge to follow the motion, stumbling slightly with the awkward movement, but Ren caught you, guiding you closer until you came to rest against them, a tingling sensation immediately wandering up their spine at the contact.
Instead of lying down as you had seemed to intend, you ended up sitting upright, one hand resting on their shoulder while the one Ren had grabbed lazily interlocked its fingers with his. The cold, dazzling blue of his eyes felt even more intoxicating from up-close than the wine, especially when they seemed to practically overflow with adoration. It was almost impossible to tear your gaze away.
Still, you leaned forward, pressing your face and nose against the side of their neck. The birds chirped outside and their scent filled your nostrils—a sweet mixture of mint and something entirely unique to Ren—making your head spin. You felt a shiver run through him as he exhaled shakily.
“Angel…” Their fingers squeezed your hand, their pulse immediately leaping beneath the skin of their throat.
“Mhm,” you hummed in return.
You continued gently rubbing your nose along his neck and up towards his jaw, your hand coming up to cradle the side of his face. Then, soft pecks unexpectedly began to flutter across his cheeks, one after another, until your nose brushed against his.
They squirmed slightly, as if trying to resist your sweet harassments. But the longer your nudging and caresses continued, the less they were able to hold back their soft sighs and hums. Eventually, they curled into themself slightly, trapping you within the cradle of their arms and legs, their face buried in the crook of your neck.
“Gods…”, he said as if out of breath, as your hand traveled up his neck, catching the soft strands of hair resting there and gently pushing them aside.
Your teeth found the back of his neck in a gentle bite, making him jolt. His sudden movement dislodged one of the big cushions beneath him. Before either of you could react, it slid out from under their weight, taking Ren—and you along with them—over the edge. Somehow, you didn’t even so much as bump your legs against the floor. Instead, you landed sitting astride their stomach, while Ren caught themself on one arm, the other wrapped firmly around your torso and one leg still caught against the window seat.
His chest heaved heavily beneath you, though his pants were muffled, as if he were biting down on something to keep the sound from escaping.
The sudden shift in position had startled you out of your trance, yet your head still spun slightly, hands itching to cradle Ren again however you could.
“Ah- Ren- I'm sorry, you okay?”, you asked, hands already grasping at the fabric of his cardigan again.
Ren dragged themself back from the window seat, leg coming down and pulling themself up into a seated position. The arm that had just clutched you now hesitantly came up to their neck, hand rubbing over the spot you had bitten.
“Ah- I… y-yes… no worries…”, they murmured, drawing his legs up slightly, tips of his ears a bright red between pastels of pink and blue.
You blinked slowly. You weren't quite sure if you were just imagining it, but for a second, you thought you had glimpsed deep teeth marks on their wrist. You smiled a little embarrassed. What exactly were you even thinking…? But you truly couldn’t help it.
The feeling of Ren practically melting beneath you at the slightest touch was a high you chased after like an addict. There was hardly a more effective way to peel away all their defences and coax them out of their timid demeanour. Besides, your chest filled with an overwhelming affection, almost to the point of physical pain, whenever you caught sight of that expression on their face. There was something almost helpless in their gaze—the faintest smile tugging at their lips, their glassy-looking eyes softening as they lingered on you with unabashed adoration.
You leaned closer, cupping their face in your hands and gently rubbing their cheeks. So adorable, you thought, practically sobbing inside.
You pressed another peck against their jawline. Your fondling seemed endless, and Ren grew limp beneath you, as if his mind couldn’t keep up with the sensations his body was receiving. Only after you felt satisfied did you wrap one arm around their neck, leaning even further and reaching past Ren to grab your glass of wine. You tipped it back, taking the last chug into your mouth and keeping it there, swallowing it bit by bit as you savored the taste, your chin resting on their shoulder. Just then, your phone vibrated in the backpockets of your trousers.
You pulled back to reach for it, wanting to check who had messaged you, but before you could, Ren's fingers had cupped your jaw, and soft lips pressed against yours.
His throat bobbed slightly.
When he pulled away again, he left your head dizzy from the sudden kiss. Your phone was definitely the last thing on your mind now. “You shouldn't drink too much, Angel,” he whispered.
Heat rose to your face as you licked the sweet aftertaste of the wine from your lips. With your brows slightly knit, you looked up at him. Those blue eyes, like the shimmering colours of a prism, or the varied hues of aquamarine, made you sit still, unable to break your gaze yet again.
“I guess so…”, you said quietly, swallowing heavily with how dry your mouth suddenly felt.
Your phone vibrated again and Ren tensed, hand sliding down to grab at your waist. Eager to escape the awkward moment, you quickly reached for your phone. Your heart was pounding rapidly.
“Who is it?”
“Leon…” you murmured.
Ren's expression promptly soured, it was a good thing you couldn't see it.
“He's asking if I'm still planning to come…” Right. You did make plans to go to your local pub with Leon tonight. Looking outside, the sun was barely visible anymore. Even if you left your apartment now, you would still run late.
You hadn't even noticed the time passing.
But, to be quite honest, you had also simply forgotten about everything else while spending the entire day cuddled up with Ren, lazily sipping at your wine.
“You should turn him down,” Ren said. “I- I mean—you seem quite tired… It's probably best if you just rest for today, no? And you got work tomorrow, too…”
“Right… you're right,” you replied.
And you truly felt unusually drained, you couldn't keep your eyes open much longer.
Suddenly, just as you had sent your reply to Leon with slow fingers and wanted to pull yourself up to come to a stand, Ren sat up straight and drew you back tightly against their chest, both arms cradling you. Enveloped by his warmth and familiar scent once more, you were too comfortable to resist.
“Isn’t the floor uncomfortable for you?” you murmured against their chest, your voice muffled by the fabric of their clothes.
“I don’t mind. Just…” They buried their face in your hair, their voice growing quieter. “Just don’t go yet.”
“Okay.”
“You’re not leaving?”
“I’m not.”
Your arms wrapped around their waist, and he let his weight sag against you, the two of you settling into each other’s hug.
Caught in that embrace, you remained on the floor of your living room until the light outside had dimmed so much that you could barely see anymore, before the street lamps began to shine their soft orange glow through your window, casting long shadows in your living room. A fresh breeze stirred the curtains and brushed gently over your skin, but pressed against Ren as you were, you didn’t even shiver. Their warmth shielded you from the chill.
“Hahh—Angel…” Their voice was unsteady, almost breathless and barely above a whisper. Their arms tightened ever so slightly around you.
“You’re always so good t’me.”
Not long after, you finally dozed off. Ren couldn’t seem to wipe the smile from their heated face—as if struck with a fever—their body imperceptibly shivering every now and then with barely suppressed chuckles of delight. They nuzzled their head against yours, lingering there, unable to bring themselves to move. His fingers gently traced along your back, holding you close and savouring every quiet breath you took against him. There was nowhere else he wanted to be.
If they could, they would keep you here.
Forever.
