Work Header

keep your enemies close

Summary:

Homura’s eyes widened, face turning beat red as Wasu leaned down to peck at Homura’s cheek and the corner of her mouth.

Was she going to die? No, she couldn’t because she had a portion of the Law of Cycles’ power. Were they ridding her with a gentleness to contrast with her devil-like nature?

“Go to school, you big baby,” Wasu poked. “You’re shockingly really cared for, you know.”

Homura hasn’t attended school in a while. Wasu provokes her into a fight so she can stop moping around + carries Homura.

Notes:

Work Text:

Homura blinked in her home to find an old-style black and gold telephone floating in front of her.

‘I don’t remember this being here.’

Homura glanced around. Kyubey was nowhere in sight, unlike its usual nature ever since she rendered that being useless without wishes.

“…”

Oh well, Homura didn’t care. She gave a withering glance to the telephone and let it drop to the ground with a crash and a crack. She flopped back onto what she’d call her bed before beginning to close her eyes again.

The sense of unease was stronger than before so Homura lifted an eye open hesitantly.

Two telephones appeared, floating. The rotary wheel shined, tantalizing and taunting.

‘Is this.. some sort of prank?’

Homura turned away again, only to see there was a pile of telephones toppled on top of each other in front of her.

Homura’s eyes narrowed.

“I’m not touching tha—huah?!”

Homura felt arms loop around her chest from behind and pull her backwards, hugging her. Her fall was slightly cushioned from the person behind her—not that it wouldn’t have hurt anyways, Homura was laying down on her bed.

Homura immediately tried springing away but the arms grew tighter, practically crushing her lungs. She could feel someone else’s hair, body, warmth, so her thrashing only got worse.

“This is quite the greeting, Homura Akemi.” A charming voice sounded right at Homura’s ear. “Why so hostile? Is it so wrong to visit an underclassman every once in a while?”

Homura scratched and scrambled out of the other girl’s grasp before she was finally let out. Just as she was about to transform, she came face to face with her own face.

Wasu smiled tenderly.

“What are you staring at for so intensely? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Wasu said. “I was just wondering where my favorite underclassman went.” Wasu tilted her head. “You haven’t gone to school in a while. Why is that? Didn’t you want to keep the Law of Cycles close by, Devil?”

Now that Homura thought about it, how did this person get in here? Homura’s eyes trailed to the countless telephones clattered on the floor. A bone-deep exhaustion struck Homura, reminding her that she still had more things to do, but..

I don’t want to go to school.

She was afraid to face Madoka, or anyone else for that matter. Homura threw a fit earlier, and it was bound to lessen the already bad trust between her and everyone else in the group.

Besides, when Madoka turned around, it was cold. Her eyes were molten gold and they seemed cruel, cold, and detached.

Wasu let out a dramatic sigh before seriously facing her in the eye.

“Hey.”

Wasu leaned forward with an intense expression, letting the shadow overtake her features ominously.

“..!”

“Are you seriously going to give up like this? Do you not see things clearly?”

Homura’s mouth opened and closed. A black lizard slithered and Wasu’s intense look replaced itself with a light smile.

“If you still wonder for my appearance, well..” Wasu pulled Homura into a small spin. “It’s not like you look bad yourself, you know. You’re a beautiful flower, I can acknowledge even this with such an affection unlike what you’ve made yourself out to be.”

Homura narrowed her eyes.

“Who are you to say what I do or who I am?”

“I have an alike appearance because you've branched off, similar to the Law of Cycles. Treat yourself with a little more love, no?”

Wasu’s appearance seemed to distort into an unfamiliar alternative outfit, similar to a nun. Homura quickly sprang out of the other’s grasp.

“Gives back memories of our previous entanglement,” Wasu teased before a block crushed her wrist. It gave enough time for Homura to get outside so their scuffle wouldn’t take place inside a building—specifically her abode, and Kyubey was still nowhere to be found.

“It’s nothing,” Homura coolly replied.

It didn’t take long before Wasu caught up, a distinct glint in her eyes as she ran at Homura again before she was quickly pushed aside.

“Are you that needy for a love that isn’t true? Why aren’t you opening your eyes to things directly in front of you?”

What a strange statement..

Wasu’s smile strained at the edges, one of spikes and less flowers. “You’re holding back, Homura!” she yelled.

Homura scoffed. ‘She moves like an annoying pest. She was like this previously before her other two teammates joined.’

Speaking of other two.. It seems they’re not going to be joining this fight, it’ll just be Wasu and I. Homura scoped out the area in case there was an ambush, but it seemed there really was nobody there.

The longer they fought, the more Homura was reassured she’d win the fight this time until Wasu’s grin sharpened and out from her beaten weapon, a bright beam shot out.

“Uh!”

Homura’s world crashed again, she couldn’t move but she was still wide awake. Was she in a state of shock?

“Homura Akemi..”

A vein would’ve popped on Homura’s forehead if it weren’t for her self-control.

Wasu’s arms snaked around her and lifted her up.

“What are you doing?” Homura managed to get out.

Homura’s eyes widened, face turning beat red as Wasu leaned down to peck at Homura’s cheek and the corner of her mouth. Was that a kiss? But it wasn’t on the center. Isn’t this reminiscent of the first meeting when Wasu flexed her true nature of a pushy upperclassman?

Was she going to die? No, she couldn’t because she had a portion of the Law of Cycles’ power. Were they ridding her with a gentleness to contrast with her devil-like nature?

“Go to school, you big baby,” Wasu poked. “You’re shockingly really cared for, you know.”

“…”

“Don’t act so surprised, you’re not going to die, Homura Akemi.”

‘I wouldn’t let you die anyways.’

“I can’t believe you picked a fight with the devil again? Seriously, carrying her?”

Wasu’s eyes deepened. “She’s someone pretty important after all! She’s specially important to me at the very least.”

“I can tell. How did you even make her sleep and why was she brought here? Our location could be compromised, you know. Were the days when she was gone from school her staying up or something? Or what could’ve possibly happened for you to seek her out again?”

“…” In Wasu’s arms was a sleeping Homura.

“Also, what was up with the kiss at the end?” Choka butted in again, petting Kyubey. “Kissing with the devil, huh? Kind of poetic if you really think about it.

A Nun and the Devil.

“Aha, guess we really are a match.” Wasu laughed, carefree. “Don't worry about it~”
