Broken. That was the only word that Ephram could come up with to describe Amy after Colin‘s death. She walked through life on autopilot, with dull eyes. A shell of the girl she used to be. But the more he thought of it, the more Ephram realized that the girl he knew wasn’t even the real Amy. The real Amy was the girl who lived before Colin’s accident. The girl who didn’t have the pain of loss. The girl who had no idea that life could hurt this much.
Ephram wasn’t really Ephram either. His family had broken, in more ways than one, when his mother died. No one knew the real Ephram in Everwood. He was starting to think that the boy he used to be never really existed.
Being broken was an epidemic in Everwood. The people Ephram knew weren’t really who he thought they were. Like Colin became Colin the Second after his coma, most of the townspeople were the second, maybe even the third, versions of themselves. They had been touched by grief at some point.
Ephram figured the only good thing about being broken was that maybe, hopefully, you could be put back together again.
