Chapter Text
There, on her bed, lay that cursed girl that continued occupying Justine's thoughts every day and every night, she laid back, a claw sharpener in hand, completely oblivious to the war she'd been causing in Justine's mind.
Justine wanted to hate her, she should hate her, they were opposites in every way. Ramona was a villain, destined to eat an innocent girl, while Justine was one of the many princesses in her story, destined to live a happily ever after with a handsome prince.
In no realm should a beautiful, innocent princess be falling in love with a man-eating rebel, no less a girl man-eating rebel. It just wasn't right or natural.
So why in Ever After were Justine's feelings so strong?
What was it about the wolf-girl that was so compelling? Could it be her tall and lean figure? Maybe it was her long, chestnut brown hair, or perhaps it was her affinity for breaking rules that drew Justine in.
It didn't matter what compelled her, she needed to stop thinking about her all together, she had her upcoming spring recital and needed to focus on that. She couldn't afford to continue thinking about the rebel with the recital right around the corner.
She shook her eyes off her roommate and headed for bed, maybe in the morning she'd wake up with a clearer mind.
Justine clapped her hands and the lights flickered off.
"Night, princess." Ramona's voice spoke through the dark.
"Good night Ramona." Justine answered politely. Just because she didn't welcome her feelings for the rebel didn't mean she couldn't be cordial to the girl.
The sun shining from the dorm's window lit up Justine's perfectly deep brown skin as she rose the next morning. She yawned elegantly as her arms reached the sky, she turned her head and found songbirds singing outside her window.
How she loved songbirds, their melodies were some of the best instrumentals she could dance to.
Right on the windowsill sat a small songbird, humming a beautiful melody. Justine felt compelled to pick the bird in her finger and harmonize with it. She opened the window and the bird as if on command perched on her finger. Justine, with the widest smile on her face began to harmonize with the young bird. It was your average, everyday princess-y tune, but it was nonetheless beautiful.
Suddenly, from across the room came a loud screeching sound causing the bird to jump off Justine's hand and fly out the window.
"Cut that out!" Ramona moaned from her bed, large pillows covering her big bad wolf ears. "Do you have to be such a princess so early in the morning?" She growled.
Justine let out a huff. She sharply turned her head towards her roommate. "Do you have to be such a grump in the morning, Ramona? Jeez."
"You know my ears are sensitive to high pitched noises, princess."
"You can't possibly hexpect a princess not to do princess-y things." Justine pivoted.
"Just like you can't hexpect a Badwolf not to be a bad wolf." Ramona retorted, a sly grin on her face.
"Whatever after!" Justine puffed. "Just be more gentle with your claws, that screech frightened the poor bird!"
"Okay," said Ramona as she hopped of her bed, stretching her arms over her head. "whatever you say princess." She mocked with a snicker.
Justine's face turned red in embarrassment. "Stop calling me that!" She pouted.
"What, princess?" Ramona snorted as she took a step towards the young dancer. "Are you not a princess," She stood directly in front of the girl now. "princess?"
"I am!" Justine huffed, her face reddening with blush. "But when you say it like that I know you're mocking me."
"I'm not mocking you," Ramona's hand reached out, springing a loose coil in Justine's face. "princess." She teased.
Justine's hands immediately went to her hair, smoothing it out to prevent Ramona messing it up. "Yes, you are." She rolled her eyes.
"Fine," Ramona backed up, her hands in the air. "maybe just a little bit, but what can I say? The look on your face is just too delicious." She snickered, her eyes looking Justine up and down.
Suddenly Justine felt self-conscious, there she was in a lace nightgown and her crush wolfy roomate stood looking her up and down. Maybe she wanted to eat her, did Justine look delicious? Is that why Ramona had a hungry, desperate look in her eye?
Justine backed up, her eyes full of worry. "Don't give me that look Ramona." Justine's lower lip trembled ever so slightly.
"What look?" Ramona questioned, a playful grin on her lips. This wolf loved to tease her jumpy roommate.
"The like 'you're going to eat me' look."
Ramona let out a nasally laugh. "Hah! Eat you? Please, I don't eat girls," She confirmed. "unless they ask for it." She added with a smirk.
Unless they ask for it? Justine questioned. Who would ever want to be eaten, that would be a horrible demise!
Before Justine could question Ramona she continued on. "Anyway, eating humans was my great grandpa's thing. No wolf's done that in years, something about needing a red riding hood or something like that." She shrugged. "Besides chicken tastes better."
"Oh." Justine mouthed.
Later during dance class-ic, Justine sat with her friends, Melody Piper and Duchess Swan. The girls were discussing the spring dance recital, the recital was open for all students but Duchess and Justine being seasoned dancers were the headliners, everyone would be attending for them.
Unlike Duchess, who was performing to show off her skills, Justine was royally excited at the chance to show off her love for dancing. She believed dancing could bring two people together, considering dancing was how her parents and everyone else in her family got together.
"So, after Justine finishes, Duchess is next." Melody turned her head to the girls. "That sound good to you guys?"
"Sounds perfect!" Justine clapped.
"Yup, just right." Duchess nodded.
"Are you sure you don't want to go first Duchess?" Justine asked. "I know how long you've been waiting for this recital."
"It's fine," Duchess's lips curled into a smile. "I've got amazing plans that will only work if I'm the finisher."
"Okay!" Justine grinned. She wrapped Duchess in a hug. "This is going to be so fun!"
"Fun, yeah." Duchess' tone was dipped in sarcasm, but Justine was oblivious. She quickly peeled away from Justine's hug. "Well, looks like I better get to rehearsing."
"Have fun Duchess!" said Justine with an enthusiastic wave.
"Later." Melody waved.
"Guess I should practice as well, mind providing me with some music?" Justine asked.
"Nah, don't mind one bit." Melody nodded with a smile.
Her mini speaker immediately began playing a pop rock medley and she began bumping to the rhythm.
Justine's shoulder raised, a half smile on her face. "Maybe something a little more classic?" She asked.
"No prob." Melody's head continued rocking out to the instrumental as it began to change its pace to something more classical.
"That's better." Justine smiled as she began to sway to the melody.
She felt the most at peace when she was dancing, her mind wasn't stressing about upcoming pop quizzes or thinking about her very unwelcome crush on her roommate. When she danced she was free from all of that and Grimm was she thankful for that. Dancing was in her blood, she couldn't imagine a life without it.
