Chapter Text
Yeon Sieun :
Laughter is ringing through the air. The sun is shining bright, yet the air isn’t sickly hot. The sweet smell of summer is wafting up his nose.
Yeon Sieun is actually having what he considers a good day.
Baku, Gotak, and Juntae are playing basketball in front while he is on the bench, watching with a small smile on his face as each one of his friends take turns either scoring hoops, or making a complete fool out of themselves.
Friends.
That’s a word that was still new in Sieun’s vocabulary. When he first transferred to Eunjang, he thought he was done making friends. After everything that had gone down with Beomseok, he couldn’t imagine trusting anyone ever again.
Except Suho of course.
Suho. Ahn Suho. His Suho. His Suho that was still in a coma. His Suho that Sieun kept texting, knowing the messages weren’t being read. His Suho, whose voice Sieun missed so dearly. His Suho, who he knew he would wait for, no matter how long that may be.
After getting betrayed by one friend and losing another, Sieun had thought that in his new school, he was going to keep to himself and build his walls up so high that nobody could even peek past them.
Yet here he was. Sieun actually did meet a group of guys who he considers his close friends. They met under rough circumstances but even after defeating the Union two weeks ago, their bond has continued to grow and Sieun hoped that it will get stronger as time passes.
Sieun felt a pat on his head. Startled, he instinctively flinched at the touch and looked up to see Baku, sweaty and panting - from both the heat and the game he was playing with the others.
“Why are you so lost in thought? What are you thinking about?” asks Baku, smiling slightly.
Sieun is used to Baku checking up on him. No matter how high and mighty he acts sometimes, Baku is actually the most caring and compassionate one in the group.
“Nothing much,” Sieun said, returning the smile.
Baku sat down next to him, sighing happily.
“It’s such a nice day, isn’t it” he exclaimed, stretching out his arms and legs.
“Yeah, it really is,” Sieun agreed.
They both sat in silence but Sieun knew they were both thinking of the big change coming in their lives.
Graduation.
Not like that’s going to change much for their friendgroup, since all are going to the same university. But starting next week, they’ll be going into their summer before freshman year. The first year of college opens up a whole new chapter in their lives. New people, new places, new opportunities.
Each of the boys already had their minds set on what they wanted to pursue. Baku planned to go into business management, Gotak in sports therapy, Juntae in social work, and Sieun in medicine. The boys are not planning on letting their difference in majors split them up though. The others, especially Baku, want to force Sieun into joining a frat, because he wants everyone to get “as drunk as a fish” as some sort of a bonding activity. The idea irks Sieun but brings a smile to his face anyways because he too is looking forward to making more memories with his friends.
Sieun’s thoughts are interrupted by a buzzing in his back pocket. He slipped his phone out of the folds of his pants and glanced at the screen. His heart dropped.
It’s the hospital. The one where Suho is.
The last time he got a call from the hospital, they told him Suho was in critical condition. Sieun had taken the phone call while crossing a road and the idea had shattered him so deeply that he couldn’t get off the road in time and got hit by a truck. Sieun inhaled sharply.
Please be okay.
He picked up the phone.
“Hello?”
