Work Text:
“Watson.”
Watson looked up at him, wagging his tail.
“You are drooling on my papers.” Holmes leaned forward and patted Watson on his head, unable to help himself.
Watson’s wagging intensified and he whined but he did not move his head off of Holmes’ papers.
“Fine.” Holmes stood. “If I shift as well, will you cease your destruction of my papers?”
Watson whined again and stood as well. Holmes took that as agreement and shifted. Watson approached him, still wagging, and sniffed him. Holmes waited to see what Watson wanted and, after a minute, Watson walked over to the fireplace and laid down in front of it. His tail still wagged at an impressive pace, softly thumping against the floor. Holmes followed him and laid down next to Watson. Watson was quite soft and warm and Holmes found this enjoyable despite the interruption to his work.
They had been friends for years and Holmes was well acquainted with Watson’s attempts to get him to take breaks. Watson claimed it was good for his health, both to take breaks and to spend time in this form. Holmes did not often agree, but Watson was his good friend and it pleased Watson when Holmes listened.
Holmes did have to admit that Watson was right about needing a break this time. Holmes was tired and chilled as it was a cold day. Laying with his friend by the fire was pleasant.
Holmes could feel the satisfaction coming off of Watson at this and Holmes grumbled, making sure to project back his protests about this. Watson may have been correct this time, but most of his attempts were unnecessary.
Holmes would not remain here for long as his case still awaited him, but for now he would enjoy this time relaxing with his friend.
