Shadow Milk grins as he shows off a very elaborate and extremely unnecessary shuffling technique. His actions, to Black Raisin’s dismay, do not go unnoticed by Pure Vanilla, who stares in awe. Really, when doesn’t he stare at Shadow Milk Cookie like a lovesick poet? There aren’t any scenarios Black Raisin Cookie can recall.
Perhaps sensing the avian’s patience wavering, Pure Vanilla calls his jester’s name.
“That’s very impressive, dear, but could we play now?” He asks politely.
“Fine, fine, let me just show you one more-“
“Just deal the goddamn cards for witches sake, Shadow Milk Cookie!” Black Raisin snaps.
The beast narrows his eyes at her, before turning back to his beloved. “Anyways, this one is called the jester shuffle.” He moves the cards around in a way that makes him appear to have three hands for a second—an illusion perhaps? It could be skill, Black Raisin supposes.
“Is it really called that, or did you make that title up?” Pure Vanilla says exasperatedly.
“Potato patato.”
“I see.”
Black Raisin sighs. “Can we get started now, or do I have to watch you two idiots for another half hour?”
“Preferably, the former,” Pure Vanilla replies, nodding slightly. “Bluebird?”
Shadow Milk Cookie glares at the king, before grumbling something incoherent and elegantly dealing 7 cards to himself, his partner, and his friend—who is definitely wondering why on earthbread she even tolerates him.
“There. Happy, your majesty?” Shadow Milk tilts his head, falsely sweet gaze aimed at Pure Vanilla.
“Quite. Thank you, love.”
“Right, are we gonna play now or what?”
“Yep! Let’s get this show on the road, gnats!”

A horribly offended gasp cuts through the air. A hilariously affronted Shadow Milk Cookie gapes down at the +4 card he appears to be the victim of.
“You-“ turning to face Pure Vanilla Cookie, he fires a flurry of insults at the perpetrator, who smirks in response.
“My apologies, bluebird,” he hums.
“I was merely getting payback for the six cards you bestowed upon me earlier. It is only fair, you realise.”
“Fair?! You half-baked IDIOT I will LOCK you in my GRAND SPIRE OF DECEIT for ETERNITY!” Shadow Milk howls very, very, furiously.
“May I remind you, darling, that you already tried that one with me, and it did not end in your favour. I’m always up for round two, if you’re willing-“
“Shut. Up.”
“My apologies.” Pure Vanilla hangs his head in shame, attempting to hide his own amusement as Black Raisin muffles a snort beneath her hand.
“Using my own trauma against me, Nilly? Trauma that you inflicted, may I remind you?” Shadow Milk pouts.
“Sorry, love.” Pure Vanilla leans over and presses a kiss to Shadow Milks temple.
“Ga-ay.” The beast sing-songs as he places down a blue 2 card, unimpressed.
Black Raisin Cookie abruptly slams down a +2 on the stack. Pure Vanilla’s mouth drops open as he turns to stare at her.
“What? I am simply avenging my dear friend.” Black Raisin smirks at Pure Vanilla as Shadow Milk throws a rude hand gesture at him and snickers.
“So you’re getting vengeance for your friend whom I sabotaged in vengeance? Vengeance for vengeance for sabotage?” Pure Vanilla turns his head to directly face Shadow Milk’s hand, which he lowers with his own.
Before placing a second +2 on the stack. “Vengeance for vengeance for vengeance.” He states as Shadow Milk scowls at him. “It’s not vengeance if you’re now unaffected, fool.” He goes to grab four cards from the awaiting stack, before sinking his teeth directly into Pure Vanilla’s shoulder. Pure Vanilla does not wince; the bite hadn’t hurt, not really. The Master of Deceit often bites in affection, and while this one may have been in malice, it doesn’t have the effect it would if Pure Vanilla wasn’t so very used to being bitten by a certain blue-hued cookie.
After Shadow Milk releases Pure Vanilla, acquires his four cards and takes his turn, Black Raisin slams down another card and calls out, “Uno!”
Shadow Milk smirks and mutters under his breath, “Not for long…”
After Pure Vanilla places down his card, Shadow Milk smugly slaps a +4 onto the table. “Uno!” He declares.
“I hope you know that if you weren’t dating my best friend, I would throttle you right now.”
Shadow Milk scoffs. “Pshhh, puh-lease! You wouldn’t dare do so sober. Oh, wait, my mistake—you’ve guzzled several glasses already, haven’t you, best bud!” He beams sarcastically.
“I swear to Gods, I will-“
“Black Raisin Cookie.” Pure Vanilla scolds.
“I’d like to see you try, sweetcheeks, really do your worst-“
“Shadow Milk Cookie.”
“Ooh, Pure Vanilla Cookie~”
Pure Vanilla loses composure as he blushes embarrassedly and averts his eyes, finding sudden fascination with the ceiling.
“Hah! I win! Take that, losers!” Shadow Milk directs that last line to Black Raisin Cookie specifically, who had been sour ever since her near-win turned to loss.
“Congratulations, my love. Though could you sit down please?”
Shadow Milk twists in the air to lean down and flick Pure Vanilla’s forehead.
“Nope.”
“Gosh, you are a terrible winner, you know that?” Black Raisin bitterly grits through her teeth.
“And you, my dear, are a very, very sore loser.”
“Whatever. Same time tomorrow night?”
Both the ancient and beast’s replies come in unison; “Yes.”
