𝘚𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨.
It felt like Sayeon was 𝘴𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨.
Her lungs had to be collapsing because if they weren't then she didn't have a valid reason for feeling like this.
Everything was 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦.
It had to be.
This was just a small mistake she could rewind and fix...right? Ryujin would be back to chewing her head off as soon as she snapped her fingers. Everything would go back to the way it was and she'd be able to save her. So 𝘸𝘩𝘺, why couldn't she do it again? Why did she end up a millisecond too late each rewind? 𝘞𝘩𝘺 was the only thing she could change the direction Ryujin's head fell after every pathetic attempt? The same look of confusion Sayeon had seen whenever she tried warning or saving the other was frozen onto her features. The patrol wasn't supposed to end like this, all they had to do was survey the area for any signs of rogue abbreants. It was simple.
It was easy.
They could handle it.
So 𝘸𝘩𝘺?
𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘙𝘺𝘶𝘫𝘪𝘯'𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘰𝘯'𝘴 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘵? And 𝘸𝘩𝘺 couldn't 𝘴𝘩𝘦 change anything after her sixth attempt?
Had her luck finally run out? Had she been too cocky? What had gone wrong for it to end this way?
The longer Sayeon spent her time spiraling, the more she felt like she was suffocating. It all felt so far away. After every rewind her body had started feeling detached from itself, the only thing reminding her that she was still alive was the lack of air she seemed to be getting.
She needed to get a grip if she wanted to save Ryujin.
But she just couldn't.
The slow drizzle of rain only added to the static surrounding her. The way her uniform started to stick to her like a second skin worsened the suffocation and no matter how many times she snapped her fingers
She. Just. 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵. Go. Back.
And as the reality of it all started settling onto her shoulders, she could only grow frustrated while frantically continuing to rewind.
Tears blurring her vision with each failed attempt. "𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘯..𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘨𝘰 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬.."
It was a pathetic sight to see her like this. Chest heaving as tears finally rolled down her face, mixing in with the now downpour. Sayeon refused to believe she had lost another person close to her.
She couldn't.
She was stronger now, her gift was growing stronger with each use and her instincts improved alongside it.
𝘚𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘺? 𝘞𝘩𝘺 couldn't she protect the only person who mattered to her?
Who she found solace in?
Who she shared a bed with?
Why did she have to be so weak.
Why couldn't she have told Ryujin how she felt before it was too late?
Why did Sayeon always have to be so late?
For someone always knowing what to do, Sayeon for the first time since Jaeil felt lost. If her own gift gave up on her. The one thing that gave her an edge, finally gave up on her then she didn't know what to do.
