Hold Me Like This Forever

Summary:

“You always get quieter after a long mission,” Tengen said. “I like it. Means you’re finally letting yourself rest.”

Sanemi made a small, skeptical sound, but she didn’t pull away. Instead she turned her face more fully into the curve of Tengen’s neck. The skin there was warm and faintly scented with the onsen’s minerals. She pressed her lips to it once, then again, softer.

KNY Rarepair Week 2026 Day 4: Onsen

Work Text:

The steam curled soft and thick around the private onsen, carrying the clean scent of mineral water and the faint sweetness of the soap they had shared earlier. Night had settled over the mountains, and the only light came from the paper lanterns hanging under the eaves, their glow turning the water the color of pale gold.

Sanemi sank lower until the heat reached her collarbones. White hair, still damp from the bath, clung to the nape of her neck in short, messy strands. Across from her, Tengen reclined against the smooth stone with arms stretched along the rim, the long expansion of her silver hair floating like silk on the surface. Even without the usual flashy jewelry, she looked radiant. Strong shoulders paired nicely with the easy confidence of someone who had never once doubted her own beauty.

“You’re staring,” Tengen said, voice low and amused.

Sanemi’s mouth twitched. “Hard not to when you’re taking up half the damn hotspring.”

Tengen laughed, the sound warm and unrestrained, and pushed off the wall. Water lapped against Sanemi’s chest as the taller woman closed the distance. Tengen settled beside her instead of across, close enough that their thighs brushed under the surface.

“Come here,” Tengen murmured.

Sanemi hesitated only a second before shifting closer. Tengen’s arm slid around her waist, palm resting against the bare skin of her lower back. The touch was steady and exploratory in the gentlest way. Sanemi exhaled and let her head tip sideways until it found Tengen’s shoulder.

They stayed like that for a while, listening to the quiet trickle of water from the spout and the distant wind in the pines. Sanemi’s fingers absently traced the edge of a faded scar on Tengen’s forearm. Tengen answered by pressing a slow kiss to the top of Sanemi’s damp hair.

Tengen’s free hand came up to cradle the back of Sanemi’s head, fingers threading carefully through the short white strands. She guided her closer and kissed her properly, slow and lingering, the kind of kiss that had nowhere urgent to be. Sanemi’s hand rose to rest against Tengen’s collarbone, thumb stroking in small circles while the water lapped gently around them.

When their lips parted, Tengen kept her forehead resting against Sanemi’s.

“Stay like this,” Sanemi said, voice rough. “Just for a bit longer.”

Tengen smiled against her mouth. “As long as you want.”

Her palm moved in slow caresses down Sanemi’s spine, mapping the lean muscle and the scatter of old scars with the same unhurried care she used for everything that mattered. Sanemi closed her eyes and leaned harder into the touch. The heat of the water and the solid warmth of Tengen’s body wrapped around her until the rest of the world felt very far away.

Outside the wooden walls, the night continued, cool and quiet. Inside the onsen, neither of them moved to leave.
