Dear Granny Shorka,
Please read this to Gramps, will you? Unless, of course, he’s finally conceded that his eyes aren’t what they used to be and bought some glasses. Is he still pretending to remeasure every piece of wood before letting the apprentices cut it?
And what of you? Do you have another project on the needle, or are you in the planning phase for now? Karathael (who is K’thael now, by the way, of blue Sprilth) and I are getting the most out of the sweaters you made. You were right about it being cold at the Weyr. We look great, but I still can’t wait for the spring thaw!
Masilyth sends her love. I’ve made it a personal goal to learn all of Pern’s weyrwomen and their dragons - present first, then working backwards. Don’t tell, but none of the other queens hold a candle to my sweet darling. She’s more of a white gold than the others I've seen, and she's as delicate as a pendant chain. Smart, too. Did you know dragons can spell!? Masilyth, can, at least. I was going to spell her name Mazzlith until she corrected me. How was I to know?
Listen to me going on about my dragonet when you knew all along I’d be a gold rider. (I can hear you right now, singing your “I told you so” song. Go ahead, Gran. You earned it.) She really is fantastic, though, and I can’t wait for you to meet each other. Maybe you can read her future, too!
This turn is sure to go fast with so much to learn and to do at High Reaches Weyr. Give Gramps a kiss for me, and don’t forget to put the ointment on your hands before bed.
