The Gentle Flicker Reminds You That You Feel the Same

Summary:

A collection of various Warmhugs (Goob/Waxwell) one shots so I can use up ideas without having to find more titles. May include other ships as flavor but Warmhugs is the primary one that all of the chapters are going to be centered around. Enjoy the ridiculous output that I wish I could've kept up in college.

Feel free to add ideas in the comments if you want me to write something specific! (SFW only)

(Title is a line from fetch by saturdays at your place, good band, I like them)

Chapter 1: Kiss and Makeup

Notes:

You've heard of fanart for a fanfiction, now get ready for fanfiction for a fanart! Inspired by the picture linked just a few words to the left, nobody asked me to write this, I just took it upon myself.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Waxwell didn’t like Goob.

That was what he told himself every single day, at least. He didn’t like how stupid he was, or how insistent he was, or how cuddly he was, or how he almost always saved him from danger during runs, or, or, or…

Waxwell could come up with a million reasons why he didn’t like Goob, but it would take too long to describe all the things he did that annoyed Waxwell. So, he kept it simple. Mainly to the two points of him being stupid and affectionate. The affectionate part was the thing that got him the most. His hugs made his heart feel funny, and he didn’t like it. Waxwell couldn’t figure out why the craft wanted to spend so much time with him, but he figured it was some kind of personal prerogative to be nice to and hang out with everyone. Waxwell just so happened to be his current target. He groaned in his head as Goob approached him after lunch one day.

“Hey, Waxwell!” He pulled the candle into an unwanted hug, even if it was just for a moment. “Glisten let me borrow some of his makeup so I can try it out! But, um, my arms aren’t very good at details, so I was hoping you could help me!” Waxwell was about to turn him down, when he realized something. This would be an excellent opportunity to make Goob look like a fool!

“Alright, fine.” Goob hugged him again, and Waxwell had to wriggle out of his grasp. “Okay! I get it! Let’s go to my room.” So the two walked over to the elevator, taking it up to Goob’s floor to get the makeup, before heading down to Waxwell’s. They would’ve made Goob up in his room, but Waxwell didn’t want Scraps walking in on them bonding, if you could even call it that. So, back down to Waxwell’s room they went, the candle immediately pointing at the bed. “Lay down, head propped up. I’ll get started on you.” Goob did what he was told, folding his hands on his chest. Waxwell placed the makeup in an empty space on the bed next to Goob’s legs, and got on top of him, straddling his torso.

“Wouldn’t it be easier if I was sitting in your desk chair?”

“Just shut up and let me work!” It would’ve been easier there, but he wanted to give himself the worst possible chance of accidentally doing this well. Goob just closed his eyes in response, smiling. Alright, to start off, the worst colors of eyeshadow he could possibly pick! Well, none of the colors in the palette he had were particularly bad, so he went with a dark blue to start with. The only makeup he had ever done was putting small triangles under his eyes, so he hoped it looked horrible. Then, a green for the other eye! A slightly different shade of each color on the inside halves, and for the inside corners, white. Then, some other unimportant blushes and lip gloss to complete the horrendous look. “A-ha!” Waxwell hopped off of Goob, looking at him once he opened his eyes.

“Well? What’s it look like?” Goob picked up a mirror that had been brought with them and set down next to him on the bed.

Waxwell couldn’t believe his eyes. It had happened again. The colors he picked actually looked good together, and the shades he picked at random for the blush and lip gloss complimented the eyeshadow nicely. Worst of all, something about how it looked on Goob specifically made his heart thump in his chest. It cultivated something he was desperately afraid of growing any stronger. It was almost like… No, it couldn’t have been. Could it?

Did Waxwell… like Goob?

“Wow! It looks so good!” He didn’t want to believe it, but he was suddenly more drawn to Goob than he had refused to believe before. The makeup made his eyes pop so much he wanted to get lost in them. Were they always that… pretty? And his lips… He just stood dumbfounded as Goob looked at himself in the mirror. “Glisten was right, you were the perfect Toon for the job!” Waxwell shook himself out of his haze.

“Wait, Glisten told you to come to me for help?” Goob nodded, putting the mirror down.

“Yeah! He said you’d probably be really good at doing makeup!” That no-good mirror, he’d been trying to push Waxwell about his relationship with Goob for weeks. Guess he just felt like he had to take matters into his own hands, and used Goob’s interest in trying makeup against the both of them. “He was right!” Goob dragged Waxwell into yet another hug, the weird feeling he usually felt amplified as he looked up at his face. His stupid, beautiful face. Goob licked his bottom lip for a second. “Mmm! Tastes like oranges! You should try it!” Waxwell’s flame lit.

“T-Try it… how?” If Goob was implying what he thought he was implying, he just might die right then and there.

“By putting some on!” Goob let go of Waxwell, reaching a hand over and grabbing the lip gloss he had applied to him. Waxwell was torn. On the one hand, the lip gloss was right there, but on the other…

Oh, forget it.

“I have a better idea.” Waxwell pushed Goob’s hand away, putting his arms around the craft’s neck. Their faces were an inch apart, Waxwell could smell the artificial orange scent. He looked him in the eyes, an unforeseen burst of passion in his stare. “Can I?” Goob went from looking confused, to smiling, wrapping his arms around Waxwell’s waist.

“Yes, please!” With Goob’s permission, Waxwell closed the distance between them, planting his lips on Goob’s. He was right, it did taste like oranges, but that wasn’t what Waxwell really concerned himself with. What he concerned himself with was the flame that roared above his head as Goob’s lips danced across his own. It wasn’t just the fact that he was kissing Goob, it’s that Goob was kissing back. This wasn’t about the lip gloss anymore, but maybe it never was. Maybe this was what Waxwell wanted the entire time. Every time he hugged him, his heart didn’t want him to stop, it wanted more. Waxwell reluctantly pulled away, licking the lip gloss residue off of his lips.

“I…” Waxwell had no words for what had just happened. Whenever he tried to speak, nothing would come out.

“Maybe I should wear makeup more often!” Goob giggled, and it made Waxwell’s heart flutter.

“M-Maybe…” He would also kiss Goob without makeup on, he was slowly realizing. His flame burned just as bright as during the kiss, and Goob just smiled at him.

“Wanna do it again?” Waxwell nodded, and the two began kissing again. They’d show everyone the makeup later.

Notes:

The palette in the picture is the gay flag so you know I had to do it to em. Dyle definitely saw that and is the only one who knows what it is and was like "what. How." Also two stories updated/posted in one night? Am I a witch/wizard/whatever? Yes, but that's unrelated to my writing abilities. Makes me really good at lighting candles and incense, though. And making soup, probably. Haven't tried it yet. Not the biggest soup guy.

EDIT: NOOOO I USED THE WRONG WORD SOMEWHERE.... Oh well, at least it's evident this was written by a human lol. Anyway I fixed it.
