It had been so loud at the institute. Alarms blaring. People shouting. That was the everyday reality of being a Shadowhunter, of heading the Institute, and yet it was what currently was making him small, silent, exhausted, now that it had all come to a close, the situation managed, Alec having managed it.
It wasn’t fleeing to calmly step out and walk to his boyfriend’s apartment, surely. It wasn’t.
At least the streets of New York were quiet, as far as demon activity was concerned. They were their usual kind of loud, but that was to be expected. By the time Alec hurled himself through the front door and onto the floor in front of Magnus, though, he was done.
Magnus sat down on the floor next to him and rolled up his sleeves, fingers sliding along his newly uncovered arm. People didn’t make a habit of asking the current or former High Warlock to get down on the ground, so it was a rare sight, but Alec had seen Magnus like this with Madzie once. He counted himself lucky to have seen it.
Alec still couldn’t speak, much as he wanted to. At least they could sit together here.
