Work Text:

When Spoke and the Null army found Parrot, it was near a cliff. He looked down at the ground; it was deep, and the clouds covered the actual ground, so Parrot couldn’t even see how deep it was, but there was one thing he knew for certain: it would lead to his death. They cornered him. He was planning with Wemmbu and Flame to stop Null since Minute told them to stop Spoke, but here he was, cornered by his sweet, lovable, youngest brother, Spoke, threatening his life.

Parrot couldn't even budge to talk it out with Spoke. He tried so hard, making him realize what was wrong with this idea of his plan. The moment he became the Null leader, his personality, his whole sense of self, was warped, and Parrot couldn’t do anything about it. He was too late to change everything, too late to fix anything, too late to save everyone that he loved dearly. It was a fact that he was always too late and instead lost everything he dearly loved.

He turned away from looking and sighed.

To be perfectly honest, Parrot didn’t want to die. Not this way either. He also didn’t want Spoke to kill him or even traumatize himself because he killed his oldest brother with his own hands. He still needed to do other things too, but his time was running out before his very eyes.

Then he got an idea; his lips trembled as he bit them until they bled. No matter what Parrot did, he would never regret it. This idea might be the nastiest trick he has right now; it will cost him his own life on the line. So what is his idea, exactly?

Fall off the cliff

Yeah, it sounds bad isn’t it? To put it simply, Parrot wanted to manipulate Spoke to follow him and use his null totem. But it’s also a test; Parrot wanted to see, maybe, mayhaps, that old Spoke is still in him by sacrificing his life in front of him. Or maybe his death could make him see his wrong ways. He needed to die anyway; he already lost so much. What’s better to go out than help his brother out for the last time?.

Spoke pulled out his sword out of his inventory, then held it in front of Parrot's neck, threatening him with a sword. “So, any last words, Parrot?” He didn’t even care that Parrot was typing something on the communicator. Null could cover that, after all.

Parrot showed him a genuine smile; it weirded Spoke out. “Spoke… I love you,” with tears in his eyes. Spoke stiffened; he didn’t expect that, but the amount of agony he currently felt was eating him alive.

Suddenly, Parrot’s hand lifted like he wanted a hug, a hug from his youngest brother. “… And goodbye,” and he took a step off the cliff, naturally letting himself fall to his demise.

Spoke’s eyes widened in surprise; he laughed reluctantly, “Parrot?… Come on, don’t do this to me”

‘Parrot, please… please, fly… escape, run towards freedom like a bird you are.’ In his mind, he was begging and praying for Parrot to fly, but after a few seconds, there was no sound of anything, not even the sound of wings flapping.

Spoke was grasping at straws, looking everywhere, and exhaled. Well, there's one way to do this.

Spoke stepped away slowly, then ran toward the end of the cliff. “Spoke, what are you—”_________ stunned when Spoke jump off the cliff.

Spoke was in the air now, his clothes choking him out due to high wind currents, coughing a bit. Then his hands tried to untie the cape; he kinda struggled due to the strong winds, but eventually, he did it, and the cape flew away.

Then he saw it, Parrot’s body falling below him. His hand was trying to reach out; he finally got closer to Parrot. Parrot’s eyes were open but not responsive; it was like he had resigned himself to his death.

He put out his null totem, trying to put it on Parrot’s hand, but Parrot didn’t even want to hold it. “Come on, Parrot… please, please… I beg you, hold it.” He was crying, begging in the air. At very least, Parrot deserved it better than Spoke himself. Parrot can handle an army; Spoke would easily be influenced to become power-hungry, while his oldest brother could control his own impulses.

Unfortunately for Spoke, Parrot took a different approach: he hugged Spoke’s body, squeezing him close, making Spoke panic, and then let his wings cocoon his whole body.

Spoke, aghasted, terrified, knew what Parrot meant by this, making him start hitting Parrot in the chest with his fist. “Parrot, please… no no no no no no…” His tears stained Parrot’s top half, but Parrot didn’t budge.

SPLAT

Colors of green particles popped off in front of him; he was saved and sounded not like he wanted to be, while Parrot, his dear motherbird, showed a slight smile, looking at the sky.

ParrotX2 hit the ground too hard while trying to escape SpokeIsHere

Spoke let out his tears; it was slow, and then he cried loudly while just sleeping, writhing near the dead body of his mother beside him. Muttering apologies over and over again.

Then he blanked out; darkness took over him, passing out from adrenaline but also… grief.

Later on, he woke up; it was sunset. His clothes, the ground, and of course, Parrot’s dead body stained with his murky old blood. Spoke wanted to puke, but he couldn’t even move; instead, he just stayed there, squirming and holding Parrot’s cold, dead body close like old times. Then, he raised his hand to slowly close Parrot’s eyelids.

“Good night, Parrot,” He said, choked with a sob, and closed his eyes, not knowing that two people had just witnessed this, looking at them with sorrow.
