PHW Day 5: Partner's POV

Summary:

Angel thinks about what having a kid with Husk might be like.

Notes:

Like I said, the days are out of order so the story timeline makes sense. Don't pay attention to the numbers in the chapter titles

Work Text:

Finding out that Husk was pregnant hadn't been a surprise to Angel. He'd figured it out on day 3 of Husk's more prominent symptoms combined with the absence of his heat cycle, but he'd been hoping that Husk would bring up the idea to him first, since he didn't know what Husk's feelings on having kids was.

Plus, it gave Angel time to figure out what his own feelings on having kids was. He'd really never thought about them, not since he was alive, and in that case it was just regarding his family's expectations of him. He hadn't wanted kids then because it would've meant having them with a woman, but he hadn't really gotten any further with the thought than that. It was the suffocating and heteronormative lifestyle he hadn't wanted, not necessarily kids themselves.

But now that he was in a loving relationship with someone he considered a best friend as well as a partner, maybe kids wouldn't be so bad...? He really didn't know anything about them, especially being tied for youngest child with his twin sister, but he could learn. He wondered what a kid between he and Husk would even look like. A little kitten with multiple limbs and eyes? A tiny spider with wings and cat ears? Some unholy combination of traits resulting in a child abomination? And what would their personality be like, what would they inherit from each of them and what would be completely unique?

Angel entertained himself for a bit coming up with as many versions of their kid as he could think of, before remembering that he didn't even know if Husk would want to keep it. Had Husk ever said anything about kids or any implications about wanting or not wanting them? Angel couldn't think of a time that he had, but he could so easily see Husk as a father, aside from the obvious Daddy vibes in general. Husk was caring in a thorny way that disguised him as more distant and aloof, but for those that knew how to look past the harsh words and grumpy looks, he was actually incredibly thoughtful. Even before they were friends, back when Angel was nothing more than a sex pest to Husk, Husk had gone to greater lengths for him than most people would for someone sexually harassing them.

As a partner, Husk was even better. Sure, his face was usually still set in that typical exhausted glower of his, but he was a good listener and remembered little things Angel would tell him, and act accordingly to the information. Something as simple as Angel making a throwaway remark about the vodka in his drink not tasting great and Husk would never use that brand in Angel's cocktails again, or Angel constantly fidgeting in a pair of shorts he liked the design of resulting in Husk getting him some similar looking shorts in a softer fabric. Husk wasn't the type for mushy words and public affection, but Angel was still constantly surprised with how observant he was with the tiniest things, and the actions he'd take to fix them for Angel's happiness.

Even still, Husk was far from afraid to call Angel out on his bullshit. He was blunt, didn't sugarcoat things, and Angel being his partner didn't stop him from being harsh when Angel needed to be snapped out of a spiral. Husk's brutal honesty was the catalyst to their friendship, after all.

Was that not perfect father material? Someone who cared and noticed little things, but was still able to communicate properly even if it meant discomfort? Able to establish boundaries and discipline while still being trustworthy and kind, in his own way?

Husk as a daddy. A literal one, this time. Angel decided he liked the idea alot.

Himself as one, though. That he wasn't sure about. He wasn't exactly the most responsible or level headed person. If he could barely take care of himself, how would he care for a child?

He'd have Husk's help, of course. He was sure the rest of the hotel would help, too, even though most of them probably didn't have much experience with kids either. They'd figure it out somehow.

He was getting ahead of himself. First Husk had to realize he was pregnant at all, and then make a decision about keeping the baby or not. Angel would support him either way, but maybe having a kid would be alright.

Day 6 and Husk still hadn't suggested anything about why he was throwing up every morning and barely able to get out of bed. Angel finally decided to bring it up himself. Husk took the test, and not to Angel's surprise, it was positive.

Husk wasn't exactly ecstatic. He hadn't said he didn't want the kid, though. He mostly just seemed anxious about the consequences. They had agreed to keep it a secret for now, even if Husk did decide to keep the baby, since neither of them needed the stress of everyone else overwhelming them with well-meaning support and questions.

Meanwhile, Angel was working overtime at boyfriend duties to keep Husk as comfortable as possible. Getting him ice and cold cloths to help the hot flashes, making whatever random food Husk was craving, giving him massages, trying to make sure he didn't have access to any alcohol (he'd had to enlist Niffty's help on that one since she was dedicated to the tasks given to her and she wouldn't ask questions). Not only was Husk moody from pregnancy, but also incredibly crabby from withdrawal, which was less than fun for Angel to deal with. Some days it was bad enough for Angel to darkly hope Husk chose not to keep the kid just so he wouldn't have to walk on eggshells anymore.

One night, Husk was being a lot quieter than usual while he and Angel cuddled before bed.

"What's on your mind, doll? You're bein real quiet," Angel asked.

"I'm thinkin," Husk mumbled.

"I can tell. What about?"

"Lotta stuff. How good you've been takin care of me n' all."

"Just doin my duty."

"Yeah, but," Husk said slowly. "I was thinkin. Maybe, uh, havin this kid wouldn't be the end of the world. Never really saw us as the parenting types since we're shit at taking care of ourselves, but we're pretty good at taking care of each other. So maybe we'd be okay at taking care of a kid, too."

"Oh?" Angel said, eyes widening. "Ya sayin ya wanna keep it, then? And raise it with me?"

"I... Think so. Yeah."

Angel smiled, pulling Husk closer and kissing him. "Ahhh, now we get to do all the fun stuff! Thinkin up names, settin up a nursery, buyin clothes— well, I guess we should find out what they look like first since they might have wings or a tail or extra limbs to account for."

"Heh. I didn't think about that," Husk said. "Yeah. Wonder what they'll look like. A piece of me n' a piece of you, makin a new someone. Interesting."

"Fuck! I'm so happy," Angel grinned, smothering Husk's face with kisses. "Even though you're a pain when you're pregnant. I can handle it."

"Damn, fuck you," Husk glared, leaning away from Angel.

"Ya know I'm teasin. Mostly. Shouldn't it mean somethin that I love ya no matter how much of a pain ya can be?"

Husk rolled his eyes, pouting. "I stand by my 'fuck you.'"

"Aww, c'mon. I'll also tell ya that you're sexy as hell carryin our kid," Angel said, pulling out his bedroom eyes.

"Tch. Wait till I start showing."

"Oh, I'm lookin forward to it," Angel purred, kissing up Husk's neck to his cheek and sliding his hand down to Husk's abdomen. "You're gonna look so sexy with a big belly and mommy milkers."

Husk pushed him away in disgust. "Do not ever say mommy milkers. I'm serious, we will never fuck again."

Angel snorted in laughter. "I'd believe ya if those pregnancy hormones didn't also make ya so much hornier."

Husk rolled over away from Angel. "I'm goin to sleep."

"Mkayy. But I'm still gonna cuddle ya and tell ya how pretty ya are and how much I love ya."

Husk grumbled under his breath but didn't move away when Angel embraced him from behind and kissed the back of his neck.

"Goodnight, sweetheart," Angel murmured. "And..." He kissed his own hand and pressed it to Husk's stomach. "...Goodnight, kiddo."
