‘They bought everything, LaRusso. The name, the brand, the ability to make a pie shop with a spin on the dojo’s name.’, Johnny groaned, slurping up spaghetti in frustration, ‘What would that bitch even want with Cobra Kai, anyway? One of my students knocked her teeth out!’
Daniel, who sat at the other end of the table, tried to remind himself of a Mr. Miyagi lesson that would provide him with everything he could use to help win his partnership dojo back, but with Lawrence’s panicked rants, his mind was finding it very hard to clear.
He sighed, ‘We still have Miyagi-Do.’
‘Don’t get me wrong, I have lots of respect for that dojo, but Cobra Kai is my thing, y’know? I can’t just let her waltz in with her millions of dollars and narcissism and change the entire definition of what Cobra Kai stands for again. That would be insane, Daniel, INSANE.’
Miguel, Carmen, Amanda, Robby, Anthony and Brandon could only look on with bewilderment as the two kept throwing likely impossible plans at re-retrieving the rights back and forth. The LaRussos had the funds to buy the dojo back, of course, but all of them knew far too well now that when somebody messed with Cobra Kai, it was never about money.
‘The peace could only last for so long.’, Amanda sighed, her head lying in her hand, ‘6 long, glorious years of freedom from all of this bullshit and now we’re kicking it off again.’
She looked out of the window at that glorious San Fernando afternoon sky, tinted with slight hints of orange and lovely, calm pastel pinks. A few birds glided past, following the green that illuminated the area with such hope.
Anthony patted his mum on the back.
‘I’m gonna call her.’, Robby chimed up.
Everyone at the table went silent.
‘Who? Nichols?!’, Johnny guffawed, pushing his bowl aside to place both of his hands on the table, ‘It’s been a year since she’s been M.I.A, and the only reason we know she’s still alive is because she still contacts you (He points at Brandon) about the general state of her life and her concerns about you being in Cobra Kai.’
Brandon raised his hands up in surrender, ‘Hey, I’m a 15-year-old orphan, of course my sister is going to check up on me.’
‘You haven’t stabbed anyone in the arm, have you?’
Carmen gives Johnny a look.
‘Guys – ‘, Miguel mumbles, the argument around him only growing stronger and louder and fiercer and vicious.
‘Johnny, we need to discuss Cobra Kai, not what its students are up to in their daily lives. This is the here and now with us.’, Daniel argued, ‘We can’t let Silver’s teachings make their way back into Cobra Kai, not for the third time.’
Diaz’s leg began to bounce up and down on the floor, his hands over his ears as he tried and tried to block the noises out.
‘I’m just saying, it would nice to get all the support we possibly could! We can get those nerds involved, you can pull your daughter away from her paper for a few weeks – ‘
Now, Amanda piped up, ‘Sam’s not getting involved in any competitive karate again.’
‘Guys.’, Miguel attempts again.
‘Johnny – ‘
‘- All you, LaRusso, I really need some of that Miyagi guy’s advice right now.’
‘GUYS!’
The table goes silent once more.
Miguel, his pupils wide and gaze distant, continues. ‘Brandon, call your sister. Mr and Mrs. LaRusso, call Sam. I will contact Eli and Demetri and Robby will track down Kenny and Devon. Maybe Johnny can contact Chozen or Sensei Barnes. I’ll also get Aisha to come over and provide any support we can get. We can and will sort this out.’
Carmen nods in agreement, ‘There’s no point arguing and trying to figure out all of this now. We need time. We need a team. That’s what got us through it all a few years back, isn’t it?’
Daniel nods.
Johnny, his arms crossed, takes a few seconds to stare at the bright red diner table before - ‘Alright. I’m in.’
