"Wasn't your Ectoplasm green? Well, greener?" Tucker simply asked.
"What?"
The day was originally a normal Saturday. Well, aside normal as it can be for a group of teens who ghost hunt as their main hobby. It was one of the rare days ghosts weren't occupying.
And Tucker's question derailed it.
"I asked, wasn't your Ectoplasm greener at some point?" Tucker repeated.
Danny raised an eye brow, but otherwise didn't move from his beanbag. "But it is green?"
Tucker just moved away from his laptop, letting Danny and Sam see the screen. "I found a few pics of you on the Internet and, well, look for yourself."
On the screen were two pictures. One from when he first started as Phantom and one from last week. Both featuring his alter ego using his Ectoplasm. Tucker pointed out, "Look at the Ecto. In the old pic, it was neon green. But last week? Yellowish green."
Sam pointed out, "So the color changed? This could mean something."
Danny just sighed. "I want to ignore this, but... knowing my luck, it probably means something."
With that, the trio and Jazz, slipped into the lab, borrowed the Specter Speeder and flew into the Ghost Zone, for the search of anyone who can explain what is going on with Danny's color changing Ectoplasm.
"... who do you ask if this Clockwork is unavailable?" Jazz asked after being informed who Clockwork is.
Danny sighed. "No idea. I don't know who else to ask!"
"Now, now, there must be someone who knows about this color change-" Jazz said, but Danny interrupted her.
"It is not that I don't know anyone who has the answer, I can't think of anyone I am friendly enough with to ask! If you haven't noticed, I'm enemies with nearly all ghosts!" Danny snapped at her. "The likes of Desiree, Ember and Skulker probably know it. Heck, Kitty and Johnny, too, considering how often they make fun of me for not knowing basic ghost stuff. Ghost Writer sure does, his lair is a library! He is probably the second smartest ghost I know!"
"Only second? Tsk, tsk." said ghost chimed in, passing the Speeder. "Who is smarter than me? Technus?"
"Oh, speak of the devil... and no, Technus is the third smartest. Too field specific, you know?" Danny replied.
Ghost Writer nod. "Ah, yes. The Germans have a word for this, Fachidiot. Field idiot, someone who is smart about one thing and one thing only, but an idiot about everything else."
"So like Tucker?" Sam mocked, "He can hack the GIW, but Spanish leaves him clueless."
"Perfect example." He then floated closer to Danny, "Now what has you stomped?"
Danny sighed. "Eh, probably nothing of note, but my Ectoplasm seems to change colors and we just want to know if that means anything." To make his point, he charged his hand, yellowish green Ectoplasm engulfing it.
Ghost Writer eyed it. "Ah, your Ectoplasm is in an iridescent state. Oh, I pity the ghosts who regularly fight you. Aside from Skulker, he deserves it."
"Uh, what?" the trio asked.
Ghost Writer explained, "You become stronger, your powers evolve! Think of it as ghost puberty. All ghosts start out with green, baseline Ectoplasm, but as they mature, it changes colors to fit the new powers evolving."
The trio blinked, but Jazz chimed in, "New powers? That, wow. Like what?"
"Well, oftentimes themed powers. It is common that the powers relate to ones death or life. Hm..." he monologue, narrating his thought progress. "Now, considering your cause of death... I think you are developing powers relating to electricity. Now, while it is still in a transient state, it is hard to day, but..."
Danny sighed. "Considering I wear rubber gloves, this will be... useless."
Ghost Writer just shrugged. "Then change your ghost form."
"I can do that?!" Danny wondered. "I mean, I'm not a shape shifter like Amorpho..."
Ghost Writer sighed. "You really know nothing about ghosts."
