Chapter Text
suguru had to leave for a mission in around roughly two hours. from what he knew a small village had been experiencing abnormal civilian deaths.
satoru had some free time on his hands and with a few sweet talks he convinced yaga to allow him to tag along with suguru on this mission. though suguru had no idea, satoru was planning to surprise him.
suguru was sitting on his bed inside of his small cramped dorm. his head lifted up a little as he heard three soft knocks immediately being able to recognize it was satoru knocking.
satoru didn’t wait for a response as he gently opened the door a little and peaked inside. his eyes softened as they landed on suguru. “hey suguru!” satoru said as he stepped inside with a small smile before continuing
“i spoke to yaga sensei. he’s letting me tag along on your mission! i know you’re super strong and dont need my help but solo missions are so boring!’ suguru’s eyes widened a little before they relaxed again.
suguru had been isolating himself ever since the incident with riko. the bullet going through her skull is on repeat inside of his mind. despite the fact it had been over a year since she died the memory of her body falling to the ground remained fresh in his mind. he hadn't even noticed that his hands began to tremble as he recalled the events that happened.
“suguru?” suguru snapped out of his thoughts and looked up at satoru who seemed worried with furrowed brows.
suguru gave him a gentle smile as he began to speak “i can’t wait for my mission then. it'll be nice getting to do a mission together,” suguru’s voice softened immensely as he nearly finished speaking “satoru.”
satoru didn’t speak but had a bright grin on his face and couldn’t help but giggle a little.
their eyes met one another momentarily before satoru looked away “i cant wait suguru! ill wait for you by the entrance! dont take too long!” he said happily as he began to ran off, though it looked like he was skipping rather than running.
suguru’s eyes followed satoru until he was out of sight and when he was gone suguru let out a small sigh, his entire body seemed so relaxed now as he had a smile on his own face.
satoru continued to skip off until he had reached the end of the hall and made his way outside.
feeling the sun's heat felt nice sometimes but it never really got rid of that heavy weight in satoru’s heart.
the burden of being the strongest, the need to lead and protect others. it was quite a lonely path, a path satoru was determined to walk alone, if it meant that suguru would never have to suffer the same fate as him.
though he still feels melancholic knowing that suguru wouldn’t be able to walk next to him, not because he couldn’t, but because satoru wouldn’t allow it.
