Sometimes jason dreams of the pit.
He's back in seemingly endless depths of glowing green liquid, limbs numb and unresponsive, unable to kick his way to the surface.
Lungs aching with the need to breathe, he watches the trail of bubbles that escape his lips, they seem to sink with him,
But that is nothing compared to the searing pain that lances through him as the waters of the pit begin to take effect.
Badly healed bones that feel as though they're rebreaking and rehealing, a dislocated shoulder that shoves itself back into place.
Damaged nerves reigniting to sudden excruciating sensation; the abrupt return of feeling in places that have been dead for however long, burning across his body.
He chokes on the scream that wrenches itself from his throat and the wave of glowing water that rushes to fill his lungs.
He cannot breathe.
The lack of oxygen and prickling zaps of pain from his reawakened nerves stir him into a frenzy, his body writhes and thrashes, churning his surroundings into a flurry of bubbles
He cannot find the surface.
Jason awakes gasping, his lungs feel heavy, too small to take in enough air.
Vision swimming he rolls off his bed, knees jarring as they hit the floor.
The sudden change in perspective is almost enough to snap him back to reality.
"I am safe." Jason reminds himself, between deep gasping breaths.
The cold leeching into his hands and knees from the floor of his room grounds him. The sensation real and comforting.
"I am safe." He murmurs, squeezing his eyes shut and pressing his cheek against his bedsheets.
