Chapter Text
EXT. TRAIN STATION - DAY
Parents, in coats and gloves, “whoop!” and “hooray!” as a train departs.
INT./EXT. TRAIN - CONTINUOUS
A gaggle of boys stick their heads out of the train windows, waving.
TRAIN STATION
The parents wave back. NATHALIE, 46, waves two RED PENNANT FLAGS, “GO!” and “ELIAS!”
INT. TRAIN - CONTINUOUS
The boys with their heads out of the windows block any view of the station.
Their yelling overrides ALEXANDER, 14, tall; and ELIAS, 14, blonde; talking next to their window.
ALEXANDER
You’re sure you don’t wanna stick your head out the window?
ELIAS
(smiling)
Yes.
ALEXANDER
Elias.
ELIAS
Yeah?
ALEXANDER
(coaxingly)
De eerste liefde voelt zo goed…
ELIAS
You stop.
ALEXANDER
Die is zo teder en honingzoet…
(a la De Eerste Liefde)
I can get more em-bar-ass-ing.
ELIAS
(mimicking)
I don’t think that’s pos-si-ble.
ALEXANDER
Yeah?
ELIAS
(laughing)
Yeah.
Alexander pulls the window open, and sticks his head out.
ALEXANDER
De eerste liefde blijft in je hart! En brengt je helemaal van de kaart!
He turns, and makes the effort to shout back into the train car at Elias.
ALEXANDER
It can’t be more embarrassing than that!
ELIAS
(cheekily)
Move over.
He sticks his head out, wind blowing through his hair.
ELIAS
(shouting)
WOO-HOO!
The train’s whistle BLOWS! They start moving. Elias smiles, looks at Alexander; he's scanning the platform.
ALEXANDER (O.C.)
Your mom!
He points, Elias scans the back of the horde——looking the wrong way. Alexander yanks down on Elias’s chin, and he spots Nathalie.
ELIAS
(shouting)
Mom!
He waves.
TRAIN STATION
She spots him. Nathalie sprints to the platform’s edge, thrusting the flags out.
Elias and Alexander snatch them on the fly just as the train surges forward.
INT. TRAIN - CONTINUOUS
They lean back inside the train car. Elias reads the flags.
ELIAS
(smiling)
Go me!
They look at each other, and laugh.
