Chapter Text
What if season 2 of Crew Girl introduced a new competition to the women’s team?
St. Dominic's had rarely been on Easton’s radar. Their men’s team wasn’t very good, and her school had only been focusing on that side of the competition for years, so they barely even spared them a glance.
Enter their women’s side, which had been rising incredibly fast over the last couple of years. How good were they, you would be asking? They were an absolute machine.
The Canadian’s were a powerhouse.
At the head of the team, the Timurov sisters were unbeatable. Irina, or Riri, was in the coxswain position, and her sister Kira in lead stroke.
Beyond the sisters, their team also included renowned rowers like Dori, Blake Samuels, Runa VonLudwig, alongside recent rising star Mary Davis.
Teagan knew of a few St. Dominic rowers and had even faced a couple of them in junior races. Still, she had no idea Riri had a sister, much less that she was a rower. And not just any rower, but one of the absolute best.
Teagan and the Timurov heir had faced each other when they were fourteen. Even then, keeping up with her was nearly impossible. The girl seemed like she was from another planet. She barely sweated and rarely showed emotion. She was there to win. Everything else was just an inconvenience.
A couple of years later, news hit the rowing community, and it was impossible to miss. The girl was the next promising star of the sport, and even had a real shot at qualifying for nationals at her age.
Then came the accident.
A single moment is all it takes to alter someone’s life. Teagan didn't know the exact details, only that it was a training incident. The girl had crashed into a rock, severely injuring her neck, her shoulder, and part of her face.
One mistake. One fall. Her future as an elite rower was ruined.
Luckily for her, she was still the heir to the Timurov fortune, with a father who owned companies across the globe. Not everyone had that kind of safety net.
Teagan had almost forgotten about her entirely, until Coach brought in footage of St. Dominic’s technique to analyze alongside the rest of their other competition for the following tournaments.
Their speed didn't surprise Teagan. What actually caught her attention was the mask covering the coxswain's face.
How was someone allowed to cox a boat with something like that on? It barely looked like she was speaking, yet the team moved seamlessly, trusting her blindly to guide them to victory.
For all the words Riri didn't say, though, her sister made up for them. Kira barked precise, sharp commands to fuel the team's strength, just as a coxswain should, even though she sat in the lead stroke seat.
To Teagan, it almost looked like the sisters were communicating telepathically. A single look between the two pairs of sharp eyes was all it took. Kira shouted commands while Riri kept her focus locked on her rowers and the water ahead.
Directly behind Kira sat second-in-command Mary Davis.
She had surfaced on the rowing scene only a couple of years ago, but she was rapidly making up for lost time. Medal after medal followed her name, and it only spiked when the Canadian’s school scout found her in local town competitions.
They had turned her into another machine for their roster.
A few seats back, Dori dominated the engine room. An absolute beast with broad shoulders and raw strength, she was hyper-focused on winning, even if she was a little crazy at times. Coming from a family of rowers, that kind of passion ran in her blood.
Then came the final pair: Blake and Runa. Somehow, Runa always had a lollipop hanging from her mouth. How she managed to breathe while rowing with that in was still an absolute mystery to Teagan.
They might have seemed like the weakest link in the boat, but that was only to an untrained eye.
Usually, the ones in the stern seats have the rawest techniques of the lot. But even if that were true here, they were still better than the stroke seats on most other teams. Precision burned in their eyes, and the entire boat’s drive to win was on a level Teagan had never seen before.
The whole group was astounding, but Teagan couldn’t help but look again at the girl in the lead seat.
She felt like she recognized her, yet she was sure they’d never raced before. The only Timurov she’d ever gone up against was Riri. So, why did those green eyes feel so deeply etched into her memory?
Where did you come from? Why haven’t I heard of you before?
Teagan knew right then that this season would be completely different from her last. Now, she was finally on the girls’ team like she wanted in the first place, while still staying close with the boys. She was no longer their coxswain, sure, but she’d kept the friendships… and maybe a little something extra with a couple of them.
This year was going to be packed with intense external competition on the water, plus internal drama with Britney and her crew wanting to take up the sport.
It’s sure as hell going to be interesting, and packed with love triangles. Or squares?
