Work Text:

The wind conditions where optimal, the arrow was light, and the bow felt like it was fusing with him. He drew a slow steady breath in shutting his eyes and soaking in the moment, when he finally opened them he releases his breath, and the arrow. It sliced through the air, a sharp hissing following it. Bullseye.

Ukyo always found comfort in archery, after joining the navy he didn't have time for it but after being revived he finally had an excuse, and God did he miss this feeling.

He reach for another arrow and drew his bow. This was his time to destress and reflect. It was the only time he was able to fully tune out the presence of humans. No construction, no voice, no people, just him the wind and the target in front of him.

In, and out. Bullseye.

"Ha, Ha! Your aim never fails to impress me," a proud voice echoed from behind him. "Teach me." Ukyo could only blink in response. His quiet time was interrupted, not that he mined considering it was Ryuusui, but this interruption came with a request.

It's not like Ukyo can't teach archery, he'd help the younger children when he did kyudo in high school. But this is different, Ryuusui's an amateur, he'd require hands on training. Can my heart take being that close to him.

"Sure," what's the worst that could happen, right?

Ukyo handed Ryuusui his bow keeping the arrows on him, than stepping back to create some much needed distance between them.

"We'll start with just the bow, I want to see your posture" Ukyo stood and watched Ryuusui draw the bow. "How's this?" Ryuusui said enthusiastically. "This bow is on the smaller side, so you can bring your legs a bit closer" Ukyo slowly made his way over to Ryuusui. "Keep your back foot facing the same direction as your chest," he guided Ryuusui's right foot to face the right direction, then he stepped back and analyzed Ryuusui again, God he's stunning. "You're staring a hole into me, I'm getting kind of nervous" Ryuusui lowered the bow rolling his shoulders and neck glancing over to Ukyo. "I thought you were immune to feeling nervous," Ukyo said tilting his head still analyzing him. "Can you draw the bow again I need to check your arms." Ryuusui slowly drew the bow adjusting his feet.

Ryuusui felt a lot more aware of his body as Ukyo slowly approached him.

"Straighten your back a bit more, the target isn't that low," Ukyo placed his hand on Ryuusui's lower bring his other to his left arm straightening it out. Ukyo could hear Ryuusui's heart rate increase. "Okay. We can introduce an arrow now,"

Ukyo stepped back and reached for an arrow then handed it to Ryuusui. "Ha Ha, I’ve been waiting to hold one," Ryuusui was grinning ear to ear. "I know, I could hear you heart screaming, plus you're one of the best students I've had, you learn fast," Ukyo grabbed the hand with the bow. "Place the arrow on you thumb, and don't be afraid of the string getting close to your face" Ukyo guided Ryuusui's right hand letting it brush over his face before letting it sit around Ryuusui's shoulder.

They where really close now. Ukyo could feel the blood rush to his face. He's trying his best to not look up at Ryuusui. He knew this was a bad idea, he can't even keep it together when it's just the 2 of them in the bridge. He needed to focus he just helping a friend learn a new skill nothing to get worked up over. just don't look into his eyes and you'll be fine.

He step away from Ryuusui and moved around him so he face looking at his back lifting Ryuusui's elbow before letting go. "Okay now close one eye and focus on the target, judging from you height aim slightly above center." He watched Ryuusui just his aim then he looked over to Ukyo as if looking for confirmation. "Good, now relax and breathe, shaky hands are bad in archery." Ryuusui took a slow breathe in closing his readjust his aim a stance, then he released the arrow. It hit the bottom of the last ring

"Great job" Ukyo said as he made he way to retrieve the arrow. "But I barely hit the target" "relax, students usually only hit the target after weeks of practice," he handed Ryuusui the arrow. Ukyo comment seamed to boost Ryuusui's moral a bit more because he was already drawing the bow. He was faster at adjusting his stance and aim. He hit the same spot this but he didn't seam discharged. "Let's take a break," Ukyo pulled the arrow out of the target and made his way to a log near by.

"So you taught kids archery, that's amazing," Ryuusui was towering over Ukyo hands on his hips staring of into the woods. "Well I would come early to the range to get a few practice shots in, and ended up helping the with the junior classes before I went to mine. It wasn't anything special mainly making sure they don't accidentally hit each other," Ryuusui's was now sitting next to Ukyo tracing the stitches on his hat.

"I'm so orry-say to interrupted you conversation but Senku-chan is asking for the Captain" Gen was making his way down the path grinning. "Ha Ha, duties call, I'm expecting more lessons tomorrow Ukyo" "he's by the lab" Gen said as he passed Ryuusui.

"So, you snuck of to play teacher with Ryuusui" Gen covered his mouth trying to hold back a laugh "it's not like that, i was practicing and he just ask me to teach him" Ukyo stood up and made his way to the mark and drew his bow. "So he initiated it, how asanating-fay" Gen took Ukyo's place on the log. "Don't you have anything better to do then tease me" "well it's either this or I go back to slaving way in the sun."
