Work Text:
Fleur woke slowly to the dull sound of drizzling rain outside of the bedroom window. She stretched quietly, twisting herself around in the plush bedding that surrounded her and humming at the warmth of the bed.
Fleur loved a lazy morning in bed. The way the mid-morning sunlight streamed in through the gaps in the curtains. The way she could live in her dreams just a little longer, in that halfway state between the dream and the waking world. The way she could pull Hermione close to her and revel in the warmth of her lover.
It was one of her favorite forms of intimacy, shirking the responsibilities of their daily lives and instead staying wrapped up in bed with the woman she loved. It was a state of bliss that Fleur was always chasing.
She wasn’t always successful in swaying Hermione to her agenda, however. Her better half was not usually of the same mind when it came to morning activities. Instead, she rose before the sun most mornings, itching to get ahead of the day.
But it was Sunday, and Fleur knew that they had nowhere to be that morning. And she was determined to keep her lover in bed with her, tangled up together and ignoring the outside world.
Unfortunately for her, she could hear the faucet running already through the closed bathroom door. She turned to check the other side of the bed and was met only with Hermione’s abandoned pillow.
This would make her endeavor only slightly more difficult.
She lay there, listening to the muted sounds of Hermione’s usual morning routine and waited, a plan formulating in her sleep-addled brain. A lazy smile pulled across her face as she settled on her approach.
Fleur perked up when she heard the squeak of the old faucet being turned off.
The soft sounds of Hermione moving around in the other room fell away, and Fleur slammed her eyelids closed when she heard the creak of the bathroom door opening. Near-silent footfalls padded across the room, and the quiet noise of the dresser drawer sliding closed alerted her to her wife’s location.
Her time to strike was nearing.
Hermione shuffled quietly through the room, hoping to leave her partner undisturbed. But she didn’t know that Fleur was already lying in wait. And Fleur knew that Hermione would be leaning down to drop a gentle kiss onto her forehead like she did every other morning.
She kept her eyes closed and her face neutral, not wanting to alert her prey to the danger that she was in.
The edge of the mattress dipped under the weight of Hermione’s hand and Fleur waited until she felt warm lips press against her temple.
And then she struck.
She threw the covers off to the side and sat up to wrap her arms around her wife. Hermione squealed as Fleur pulled her down and rolled them so that the brunette was returned to her spot in their bed.
Fleur grinned at the sound of Hermione’s laughter, and she wrapped her arms tightly around her, unable to feel close enough to the woman underneath her.
“I have to get up, love,” she said quietly, giggling at the way Fleur was burrowing down into her to get comfortable.
“Non,” Fleur argued with a pout. “We have nothing else more important to be doing today.”
She cuddled Hermione harder and reached down to adjust the duvet so that they were both underneath the covers.
Hermione giggled again at her wife’s antics and sank back into her pillow, sighing happily and melting into Fleur’s embrace.
“Oh, alright.”
Fleur hummed at the feeling of Hermione’s arms wrapped around her, pulling her in closer to her chest. She turned her head to place a kiss against her wife’s collar bone and smiled when she felt the responding kiss pressed to her hair.
She closed her eyes with a pleased smile and congratulated herself on a job well done this morning.
