Work Text:
As he gets into the lift, Gibbs knows he should feel something.
Like guilt.
Maybe even a little uneasy.
But right now, he doesn't.
If anything, he feels relieved.
Grateful he had the chance to do this to Ari.
To repay him for the gunshot wound the other man gave him in the morgue two months ago.
It's also revenge.
Simple, fulfiling revenge.
After all, Gibbs knows Kate, Ducky and Gerald Jackson still haven't recovered fully from the incident where Ari took them hostage.
While Gerald's in rehab, Ducky and Kate are trying to move on.
But Gibbs has his doubts about them recovering from it.
He suspects they never will.
However, what happened here tonight will hopefully serve as the beginning of the healing process.
Besides, in Gibbs's mind, it's only fair that Ari got shot in the shoulder too.
An eye for an eye.
They will meet again.
Gibbs is sure of it.
For now, though, he can sleep easy, knowing he finally got the revenge he wanted.
And that's good enough for him.
