Aftertaste

Summary:

The most peaceful couple of hours they've had

Work Text:

Jordan lifts his bed covers as he gets in. Pulling a pillow against his chest; an instinct he couldn't remember how or why he does it, but it sure does help on some days, including this one. He left out earlier to get Iraq after a fight earlier that day, and after they both got home he felt drained. He sighs as he begins to doze off.

Iraq slowly opens the door of Jordan's room with a soft creak. He takes a moment to stare at his partner's relaxed features. The slight rise and fall of his chest, the hardly noticeable arch of his back and a subtle smile; even after the messy situations they get into. He sits on the bed cross-legged, slowly drawing Jordan' head onto his lap before stroking his already tousled hair.

Jordan hums at the sensation and presses himself closer even if subconsciously. When a minute passed, Iraq pulls out a cigar from a freshly opened pack, and lights it up with the lighter that was on Jordan's bedside table. His shoulders relaxed; he'd never felt more at ease like this.

From the smoke Jordan groans. He squints up to it was just Iraq, still half awake he speaks half humored.

"Hey… give me one."

Iraq rolled his eyes with a scoff but he still gave him one. Jordan barely sat up, still leaning heavily on Iraq and an arm around his waist.

"Here" Jordan nods takes a drag out of the cigar, which was lit by its close proximity to Iraq's. He leans back a bit and pauses, "Hey aren't those mine?".

"I finished mine yesterday." Iraq responded.

Jordan laughed "I figured,"

"Who wouldn't need one after today." Iraq continued.

Jordan's face stiffened "You really need to stop getting into fights, Abbas."

In response Iraq takes the cigar out of his mouth and fixed his posture "Its not like i start them. Plus you're my accomplice technically-"

"You said it yourself. At some point the both of us will be hurt. I don't want that, union or not!" Jordan shakes him by the shoulders.

"I know I know i owe you, but leave it in the past, will ya?" At least Jordan's visibly calmer now. Jordan coughed. He watches Iraq get up from bed.

"Hey wait where are you going? Come back." Jordan extended an arm out; his tone slightly needier than it should be.

Iraq steps further pushing open the window ajar. "Just to let some of the smoke out, I'm coming back obviously." He teased, stepping back into bed and laying down next to Jordan. He gazed up back at him, locking eyes with his bashful-faced partner before gesturing Jordan to lay down next to him. Which he of course did.

Jordan toys around with the zipper of Iraq's jacket before he pulls it down. He leans his face down to his chest breathing in his scent of an old cologne. "Missed this…"

Iraq strokes his back inching a little closer. He too started to feel a little warm in the face due to their proximity. They remain tangled in each others arms for the time being. The cigarette butts were somewhere on the bed, but as long as it's out of sight it's out of mind.
