Chapter Text
After a couple of crazy encounters with the other moons and their revolution. Especially with them trying to recruit Luna into betraying their planet, Earth. Which was crazy, that they would ever suggest Luna to betray Earth.
The others certainly don’t know Luna then if they were to get them to betray someone that they cared about despite the crap that they had to put up with. They don’t know Earth like Luna does.
Earth wasn’t always like that. He wasn’t always mean. Their brother used to be kind once.
But Luna can’t think about all of that right now. They had to warn Earth and others about the attack and everything else that was going on.
As Luna finally made it to their planet, they realized that Earth looked terrible. Just downright miserable. Just what happened to him while they were gone trying to fix Earth’s problems?
Can’t think about that right now, either. The moon revolution is underway, and at any given moment, they’ll try to attack the Earth.
Earth’s right where they left him; they didn’t have to go and search for him and make this whole ordeal more stressful than it already is. Luna noticed that Earth looked a little off, but they set that conversation for later.
They had to talk to their planet about the upcoming revolution right now; they had to get Earth out of danger!
But Earth had other things on his mind; he looked tired, his eyes looked glassy, and his whole look from head to toe looked absolutely disheveled. In other words, he looked like shit.
Before Luna could even speak, Earth spoke up in an uncharacteristically timid voice.
“You didn’t- you didn’t abandon me?” Earth whispered as if he couldn’t believe that the Luna hallucination turned out to be a lie. His moon did, in fact, come back. But why? To mock? To laugh? To make the whole thing about his moon leaving and never coming back actually true?
Why?!
After Luna took notice that Earth looked a bit unstable right now, they begged him to stay right where he is and that they’ll get Mercury since Mercury was probably one of the few rocky planets that were still on semi-good terms with Earth. They at least hope that they were. They were away for quite a bit.
“Mercury, I need your help! It’s Earth!” Luna called out to the smallest rocky planet.
Mercury couldn’t help groan when it was about Earth again. What has he done this time? Pissed another person off again? Whatever it was, Mercury really didn’t want to get involved and deal with the narcissistic planet’s problems.
But seeing Earth’s moon clearly panicking, he just decided to suck it up and see what was wrong.
“What is it?” Mercury asked the gray moon.
“He’s- he’s very unstable right now, and I don’t mean axis-wise; something is clearly wrong with him, and I can’t do it alone if he plans to do something,” Luna cried and pleaded in hopes that Mercury would say yes. Luna won’t lie, they really don’t think they could help Earth all on their own. They honestly do need all the help that they could get to help their planet.
Mercury sighed. “Fine, I’ll help.”
They better not be lying.
Before Luna could even return to their orbit with Mercury in tow to help, they both felt a sudden, familiar gravity fly past them.
Mercury and Luna then both turned their heads, and their gaze landed on indeed Earth.
Wait- Earth?! He was supposed to stay in orbit! Luna told him to stay in his orbit until they returned with help!
“Earth! You’re way off your orbit!” Luna shouted to him.
“I told you to leave, moon! Go and orbit someone else!” Earth ordered as he raced to get out of the Goldilocks zone and slam into the sun to his demise. Please don’t get caught up in my troubles anymore; please go orbit someone else that will treat you better.
Ignoring Earth’s command, they came to the realization that not only was Earth off his orbit, but he was heading straight towards their star. “Wait, are you- are you heading towards the SUN!?” Luna screamed.
“Leave me alone!” Earth desperately screamed back.
“I told you he was unstable!” Luna scolded Mercury angrily as he ran to go get their planet.
“I’m sorry!” Mercury cried as he followed Earth’s moon.
As they both ran after Earth, they started to shout for him to come back. But between Mercury and Luna, Luna screamed louder and with clear panic in their voice for their planet.
“EARTH! EARTH PLEASE!” Luna screamed out, their voice becoming raw as they screamed for their brother to get away from the sun, for him to get back to the Goldilocks zone and his orbit.
“PLEASE! LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS!” they screamed once again, but no matter how much Luna tried to beg and plead for Earth to come back, he refused. That’s one thing with earth… if he truly sets his mind on something… He won’t stop until he does it…. It was truly a blessing and a curse, just like two sides of the same coin. Which one is it going to be this time? Who knows?
Where’s the other Rockies when you need them? Where’s the gas giants? Jupiter could easily pull Earth back in with just his gravity alone. Why isn’t he helping?! Why isn’t anyone else besides them and Mercury helping!? Where is everyone!?
“MERCURY!” Luna yelled for the smallest rocky planet to follow their lead.
“On it!”
Using their own abilities and strengths, they both began to direct Earth away from his path and attempt to bring him back to his original orbit.
“Please stop! Let me at least do this right!” Earth begged the two as Mercury and Luna’s plan started to work.
“What about the life on your surface? What about the Earthlings!? Do you want them to die?!” Mercury asked, pleading that Earth would come to reason.
“They already planned to escape and leave me! I know everything they do! I feel everything they do! All the time! It hurts! I want the hurt to stop!” Earth cried to the two as they tried drifting him off the path to his fiery death.
“Let us help you, Earth!” Mercury cried and begged his fellow rocky planet.
“Please, Earth, this is not a solution!” Luna cried to their planet, begging so they could talk it out. “Please talk to us!”
Seeing those two try so hard to drift him off, he became even more upset and started to shake them off. If there’s anything that he wanted to get right. He wanted to do this right and nothing else.
Earth then finally managed to shake them off and steamrolled back onto his supposed right path.
Mercury became dumbfounded, but Luna, on the other hand, became determined to stop him.
Before Luna could even rush off even closer to their sibling, Mercury grabbed their arm and held them tightly, as he didn’t want another celestial body to die.
“You’re going to die too if you follow him any closer!” Mercury yelled at them for being insanely reckless and foolish, but that just made Luna react angrier.
Luna growled in frustration that Mercury is trying to hold them back from stopping their planet from doing something that won’t solve anything. They can’t help their planet if Mercury is an obstacle right now.
Luna then started to tug their arm away from the small planet furiously to get away, but Mercury still kept their grip on the moon. Despite Mercury’s broken expression, he still kept his hold on them to try to keep them safe.
“I!”
“Don’t”
“Care!” and with one final strong tug, they finally broke free from Mercury’s grip, and in an instant, they rushed to go to their planet’s side. Luna couldn’t care less about what happens to them now! Their planet is in trouble! Stars be damned if they care about safety!
“Earth’s moon!” Mercury desperately screamed for them to come back. If he went any further, he’d get sucked in right along the two. As he had to stay back, all he could do was to watch and hope that Earth’s moon would be successful in getting Earth back to his senses.
But something deep in his core was telling him that this was going to be the last time that he’s ever going to see Earth and Earth’s moon.
“Earth, please! Let’s talk about this! I want to talk to you! Please talk to me!” Luna continued to shout despite their voice being hoarse. Their pleas were still being cast aside.
“Leave me alone!” Earth screamed to his moon. His moon was making it harder than it should be. His moon should be happy instead.
But it was leaving the opposite effect on his moon. His moon was distraught and chasing after him, begging him to come back so they could talk it out. Why isn’t his moon happy?! Why can’t they just leave him alone!?
“Don’t leave me alone again! Please!” Luna cried as they tried desperately reaching out to him but failing as their planet was just out of reach.
Flashback
“Don’t leave me alone again! Please!” Little Luna cried.
“Okay, I won’t! We can… stay together!” Little Earth consoled his moon.
“Promise?” Little Luna pleaded to their planet with begging eyes.
“Promise,” Little Earth smiled as he went to his moon’s side.
End of flashback
Despite the memories and the constant word “promise” flashing in Earth’s mind and tears flowing down his face, he still raced to meet his demise by Sun’s Roche limit.
Breaking his moon’s promise stings, but they’ll be better off without him. They all are. His moon, his friends, and his star. They’ll get over his death.
His moon will find someone better to orbit around after he’s gone. His moon deserved better. A lot better. Not someone like him, who had treated them horribly for so long.
Earth was getting closer to Sun’s Roche limit now, and so was Luna, but Earth didn’t stop, and neither did Luna.
Just as Luna managed to grab him, it was too late for the both of them. Earth’s water had dried up, and many various life forms, plants, and all had already died from the blistering heat. The planet of life was no longer the planet of life. He was a lifeless planet now heading towards the Sun with a very distressed moon in tow.
Where Earth goes, Luna follows. Just like how they did for all those years. They weren’t going to stop, certainly not now when Earth needed them the most.
They weren’t going to leave Earth, their sibling alone even in death. It was terrifying, but they didn’t want to be terrified alone. They didn’t want their planet to die alone.
As they saw Earth’s body deteriorate before their very own eyes, they didn’t even have time to process or grieve before they started to feel their body start to crumble and deteriorate into nothingness too.
It was certainly too late for Earth, and it was too late for them.
Maybe if they had more time or went back before everything that had led up to that point, they could change Earth and their fate.
They could be back in their orbit and actually talk everything out with their planet. Their relationship could be better. They both could be happy.
Hopefully life, or whatever’s higher in their universe, could grant them that one wish to let them make things right. Please, oh please, let them grant that wish. Please let them save their planet, their sibling. Give them one more chance.
Unfortunately, Luna couldn’t know if that wish had come true since the Sun’s Roche limit had already destroyed them, and neither the Sun’s weeping nor Mercury’s shouting reached the ex-planet of life and his moon anymore. The Earth truly didn’t realize how much others loved him until it was way too late.
Maybe next time.
