Brighter Side Of Grey

Summary:

It had been nearly two months since the last extermination. But even with the "long" time period, it still hasn't taken away the grief that lingers through the air of the hotel and its residents. Lucifer flinches every time he hears those pained cries of his beloved daughter, Charlie. Its gotten to a point where The Devil can't even hide his tears.

The hotel has lost its usual light-tone. Even Husker seems to be quite upset, though you'd think he'd be gone by now due to the fact he's finally free of his deal. Actually, the one who left was Nifty. She scurried away once she saw what had happened. The little bug cried and sobbed as she saw what was left of her holder.

On that day, everyone had gathered around the wreckage, but Lucifer was there first. Of course he was there first, he had to be there first. He couldn't bare to leave his lover unprotected, especially after the prior ex-day when he had gotten badly injured by angelic magic.

Notes:

Work Text:

When the lights go down

Know that I am never far away

When the sun burns out

I'll be waiting on the brighter side of grey

It had been nearly two months since the last extermination. But even with the "long" time period, it still hasn't taken away the grief that lingers through the air of the hotel and its residents. Lucifer flinches every time he hears those pained cries of his beloved daughter, Charlie. Its gotten to a point where The Devil can't even hide his tears.

The hotel has lost its usual light-tone. Even Husker seems to be quite upset, though you'd think he'd be gone by now due to the fact he's finally free of his deal.

Actually, the one who left was Nifty. She scurried away once she saw what had happened. The little bug cried and sobbed once she saw what was left of her holder.

On that day, everyone had gathered around the wreckage, but Lucifer was there first. Of course he was there first, he had to be there first. He couldn't bare to leave his lover unprotected, especially after the prior ex-day when he had gotten badly injured by angelic magic.

If anyone hadn't heard the news yet, Alastor was dead. Though, who couldn't know about it? Everyone wouldn't stop talking about it. Lucifer had locked himself away to stop hearing about it.

While others celebrated (the Vee's and sinners alike), the hotel sat in sorrow.

No one dared utter his name. Any mention of him brought anger and even more grief. But it was evident that everyone was thinking about him.

...

Extermination day

Lucifer was still fighting and taunting one of the damned angels when he had finally noticed Alastor's struggle. Alastor was losing strength, and the filthy Exorcists used that to their advantage. They cornered the deer, all gathering around him. Lucifer quickly swooped down in a hurry to help Alastor, getting in between him and the Exorcists.

His horns flared onto his head and his eyes bled red. His tail snapped in the air while his mouth puffed out small sparks of fire. His wings went to cover his deer, but by then, it was too late.

Looking back, it happened all too fast, but at the time it was like time had slowed.

An Exorcist had flew in behind them and penetrated Alastor in the chest with their spear. Lucifer turned around and watched in horror as his partner fell to his knees.

Fear and shock painted the sinner's face, eyes widening. He sunk down to the ground as the blade retracted.

Alastor gasped and coughed, blood spilling from his mouth. His smile was wiped off his face as tears started to run from his eyes. It was the first time Lucifer had seen his beloved frown and/or cry.

Lucifer collapsed down with him, trying to cushion the fall. He grabbed Alastor by the face, his own tears spilling onto the deer's cheeks.

"Al? Alastor? Can you hear me?" Lucifer gasped out. "C'mon, stay awake. I've got you, Bambi." He tried reaching through to the demon, but it was no use. Alastor was already weakened from the angelic wound, but the angelic weapon re-opening it finally took away what little strength he had left.

Lucifer's cries grew harsher as he saw the light in his partner's eyes finally fade. And all the while, the Exorcists were laughing. They cackled and taunted, mocking the Devil's cries. But Lucifer couldn't hear them.

All he heard was the last words Alastor had murmured.

"I love you, Lucifer." That was all he said before closing his eyes for the last time.

Lucifer's body felt numb, breath quickening. He was about to stand and face the angels, he couldn't let them get away with this. But a voice ordered those fuckers back to their realm. Lucifer tried acting quickly, but he was frozen. He couldn't just leave the body unguarded for some other sinner to mess with, and he didn't want to leave Alastor alone in his final moments anyway.

If he could, he'd hold Alastor until his body lost warmth and stiffened.

The angel had tried his hardest to revive the sinner. He held his palm to the wound and let his magic do the rest, but it wasn't working. He wasn't giving up any time soon, though. He tried everything, from a healing kiss to actual CPR. But nothing worked. Finally, he let the demon rest upon his lap as he cried into the red locks of hair. He even started screaming in anguish, grabbing the hand that carried their matching wedding-rings. They had only gotten married last December. It was a huge wedding, everyone was there, including the Sins.

The screams are what alerted everyone to the location. Charlie and Vaggi were the second ones. The others followed after. Charlie rushed over, her own sobs echoing through the air along with her father's yells. Vaggi came to hold her while Angel-Dust turned and cursed loudly, his own tears flowing down his face. Husk stood frozen, and only then did Nifty come along. She took one glance and then started sobbing just as hard as everyone else. the little maid dropped her knife and ran away.

...

That night, Lucifer cried himself to sleep. Actually, he didn't sleep. He sobbed into the pillows that he had once shared with his spouse, gripping the ring that was once Alastor's. He couldn't open his eyes due to the tears, but he didn't want them closed due to the memories. He just sat still, grieving and regretting each moment.

Lucifer could have saved him, but he was too late. He could have done something, but he was too reckless.

Lucifer planned out revenge, not only on Heaven, but himself too.

...

The Irony of they're last actual interaction (when Alastor was alive) was beyond fathomable.

Lucifer was scolding the taller man, gently pushing his finger to the his chest, careful of the wound.

"You better not be as reckless as you typically are during this upcoming purge, Bambi. If you die, who will I come home to from now on?" Lucifer said, half joking, but mainly serious.

Alastor only chuckled, grabbing the King's hand and kissing it. "Me? How crude of you to think I'd die." He pulls Lucifer closer, nuzzling into him.

"Plus, no one ever truly dies forever, Mon ange." He whispered against Lucifer's neck. "That's how I came into Hell, isn't it?"

Lucifer contemplated Alastor's words before answering, "Well, Where would you go? There's nothing beyond Heaven or Hell."

Alastor hummed in silent agreement. "True. I guess I'd be reborn as a fresh and renewed soul. But I'm sure I'd remember you." He mumbled as he kissed Lucifer's neck.

Lucifer smiled. "I'll hold you to that, Bambi."

...

Now, Lucifer sat all alone in his bedroom. All he had to do was wait for Alastor to come back again.

It was a foolish way of thinking. He knew it was impossible for a soul to "come back". But a part of him still hoped.

Notes:

This was honestly to help with the depressive state I've been going through recently, and I actually liked how it turned out, even though its still technically a rough draft and needs to be re-written. I will come back to update it eventually, but for now, enjoy this short lil angst-fic.
