Work Text:
Admittedly, Agott should have seen this coming. After a long week of taking requests and holing up at her desk to work on a new spell, it was only natural she'd run into such an obstacle.
It wasn't that the spell was giving her trouble…well, it was. She'd been staring at the same page for over an hour, trying to figure out a solution with little progress, but that wasn't the issue in question. It wasn't that she was particularly tired or burnt out either. She had plenty of time and energy to work out the details, but…
"Agott…" Coco huffed against her shoulder, arms draped loosely around her as she clung close.
She hadn't been able to give her wife much attention as of late.
"Yes?" She raised an eyebrow and looked back over her shoulder at the taller woman. Coco was pouting like a dejected puppy, and had been for the past few days. "Do you need something?"
Coco hummed as if thinking about it herself, her eyes wandering across Agott's desk at the unfinished work. "Take a break?"
Agott chuckled and shook her head, leaning back in his chair and reaching up to squeeze his wife's hand. "If I take a break now, you'll only be upset when I inevitably have to go back to work. It won't be much longer; just be patient. I promise as soon as the work is done, I'll be all yours."
It was a reasonable enough answer, though it did nothing to soften the downward pull of Coco's lips. She only hugged her tighter and shook her head. "You've been saying that all week…it feels like it's been forever since we've had time to ourselves. Between the girls getting ready for their next test and both of us taking requests on the side, our last date night must have been months ago."
"And I miss having them more than I can express. You have my word, I'll make it up to you after the work is done." Agott lifted Coco's hand to her mouth and pressed a gentle kiss to the back of it.
Coco huffed once more as she pulled away, a quiet glint in her eyes. "Fine, if you say so…"
"Thank you." Agott smiled and turned back to her desk, lifting her wand once more.

It wasn't even a full hour later when Agott sensed something was off. Her eyelids drooped with fatigue as the lines of the spell in front of her began to slowly blur together into a muddled mess. What was worse? She hadn't heard so much as a peep from anyone in their home the entire time.
The girls had long since gone to bed (or at least they were supposed to have if they wanted to avoid a scolding on the importance of good rest), but Coco tended to linger nearby when she worked— always reading quietly or just watching her wife concentrate with that same fond expression.
Had she gone to bed..? No, not without her usual kiss goodnight. Surely she was up to something.
Sure enough, the delicious smell of baked goods began to fill her study. Oh, she knew it was a trap, and yet…her stomach growled traitorously.
Despite another good five minutes of trying to focus, her hunger won out over her discipline in the end. Agott shuffled into the kitchen with a yawn and a grumble.
Coco stood at the kitchen table, setting a freshly baked tray of glowrose tarts still lightly steaming. The soothing scent of lightly spiced apples elicited another low growl from her stomach as she slumped down in the chair across from her wife.
"Oh? Are you hungry?" Coco grinned mischievously as she set a plate in front of each of them.
Agott offered her a halfhearted, somewhat sleepy glare. "Don't play all innocent now. You've got my attention, so fess up."
Before she responded, Coco scooped up a tart and slipped it onto Agott's plate. She did the same for herself before taking a fork to the pastry. "What, is it so unusual to get a late-night craving? Our masters did so all the time."
"You're asking me if it's unusual for you to get the sudden desire to cook when you know I'm busy?" Agott chuckled quetly as she took a bite of her own food. Her eyes practically sparkled as she melted further into the backrest of her chair. So warm. So sweet.
Coco rested her cheek in her palm as she watched her wife savor her food, a soft flush on her cheeks. "You make me out to have some terrible scheme…it's no crime to bake for the person I love."
"So you admit this was for me?" Agott pointed her fork at her in accusation.
"I never made any real efforts to deny it." Coco lifted her hands in mock surrender. She waited a moment for Agott to take a second bite before sighing lovingly. "You're so cute when you're eating."
Agott very nearly choked on her bite of food, face flushing red all the way up to the tips of her ears. "Coco! Not while I'm chewing. Besides, what does that even mean? How is someone eating cute?"
"I couldn't have told you until I met you." Coco shrugged and absentmindedly twirled some of her hair around her finger. "But you look so relaxed when you take a bite, and you get this excited little glimmer in your eye." She smiled and giggled quietly. "It's adorable."
Agott grumbled quietly and crossed her arms. "You baked me an art just to get my attention, and I'm the adorable one? You drive me crazy."
"Aww, what's that? You're calling me adorable too?" Coco beamed and took her hands in her own.
"I didn't—yes. Alright? I am." Agott refused to make eye contact as she squeezed her hand in turn. Before she could further justify herself, a gentle press of lips against hers cut her off.
Coco kissed her for only a few moments before pulling back, a satisfied smile on her lips. "Adorable," she repeated.

Dishes were cleaned and leftovers tucked away for the apprentices to enjoy the next morning. Agott made a beeline back to her workspace, but Coco decisively ushered her towards their bedroom instead.
Agott all but collapsed into the mattress with a tired mumble as Coco climbed in after, pulling her close and pressing a kiss to her temple. "No more work tonight, ok?"
"Mm? Fine, but only for tonight. I do still need to finish up tomorrow."
Coco pulled the covers up over them both and closed her eyes. "I can live with that; just don't forget about that date night you promised me."
Agott rolled over until she was facing her wife, pressing one last good night kiss to her lips. "I could never."
