Work Text:
When he realizes Brenda's not talking, having slumped over, her head back, Billy approaches her, hoping for a sign of life.
Something.
Anything.
"Bren?", he asks. "You OK?".
However, there's only silence, his question going unanswered.
He presses his fingers against her neck, hoping for a pulse.
A sign of life.
A flicker.
But there's nothing.
Only coldness.
Which...
Which means the unthinkable has happened.
She's dead.
She's gone and left him.
"No", Billy whispers, stunned. "This can't be".
He sits down on the couch, his mind reeling.
He can't breathe right now.
Or even call for help.
Not when his final lifeline is gone.
Erased.
Just before he finally falls over, dead, his heart reacting to the shock, Billy has time for one final thought before everything goes dark forever.
Bren, he thinks.
Why...
Why did you leave me?
And when the darkness consumes him, Billy is able to rest, freed from the Hell that is his life.
