Chapter Text
Look, you never wanted to be a half-blood. Of course, the fates weren’t so kind. A few days ago you started noticing something off- animals with proportions that don’t make sense, people who looked vaguely inhuman looking directly at you, those kinds of things. However, when you mentioned the oddities to your friends, they didn’t see anything off. Well, except Ian- a nice blond boy who’s been with you ever since you moved to your new school.
Ian was on the short side, probably around 5 feet 4 inches tall, and he wasn’t the kind of person who liked to hear himself talk. For all you could tell, you were the only person he’d ever bothered to have a conversation with.
Ian believed you when you talked about what you’d been seeing. You didn’t think much of it, though. Ian’s just a loving guy who won’t let me believe I’m going crazy.
You didn’t know it yet, but he saw the world for what it was too.
-
When Ian invited you to go somewhere on a Saturday around a week later, you were surprised. Of all your friends, he was the least likely to want to go out.
Weirder still, he seemed weirdly urgent about it, like he was in a hurry. He denied being in a hurry, but you could see right through him. You decided to humor him. He was clearly worried about something, and you could’ve bring yourself to disappoint him- also, the thought of a chill Saturday out didn’t sound too bad.
You didn’t expect the ‘chill Saturday out’ to turn into walking briskly for miles. Any attempts to ask Ian where he was going was met with a weird cryptic answer, something like “I’m taking you to where you need to be,” or “It’s a place your worries will be gone.”
Needless to say, you were getting increasingly more paranoid by the minute.
It could’ve just been your imagination, but once, you thought you walked past a horse that seemed surprisingly intelligent. It looked at you like it knew something, and might’ve even tried to warn you of something. You weren’t sure, because obviously you couldn’t speak to horses, and hadn’t ever tried to. When you looked back at the horse again, it was gone.
You started to worry again. Ian was taking you miles further than you expected, at this point essentially just walking by a road you used to keep your path as you meandered through the middle of nowhere. There’s absolutely no way there was something fun to spend a Saturday on out here.
When you were sure nobody else would be walking aimlessly this far from the city, it surprised you to see a figure well behind you taking the same path as you. You couldn’t see it well- it was pretty far away, but you had the feeling something else was at play. Something was obscuring its details and features. For some reason, you couldn’t even see her- you were pretty sure it was a her- hair. She gave you the same uneasy feelings the unnatural people and animals that’ve been giving you looks recently did.
When you mentioned it to Ian, he only glanced back before he started moving faster. He didn’t offer any reason as to why he seemed so panicked.
Eventually, you couldn’t take it anymore.
”Ian, just tell me what’s going on. If you don’t tell me where we’re going, why, how far away it is, or why you’re scared of the lady back there, I’m just going to turn around and go home.”
That scared him. He picked his pace up to a jog before responding, and you matched him.
”Okay, fine. I guess you’ll have to find out now. You aren’t crazy. You have been seeing unnatural things. Inhuman people, mythical animals, they were all real, and I think one is chasing us right now.”
-
You crossed the barrier into a strawberry field in the nick of time, a scratch in your side bleeding profusely.
As it turns out, that lady was unnatural. As Ian explained, Greek myths actually happened, you are a half-blood (which you still don’t entirely understand), and you just escaped the grasp of a Gorgon. Right now, you were less worried about that and more worried about bleeding out in the middle of a strawberry field.
You had questions, of course, but you weren’t able to ask them before passing out next to a hyperventilating Ian- who apparently had the legs of a goat, by the way.
-
You awoke in a soft bed with a blond boy standing over you. Not Ian- this boy looked maybe a year or two younger than him- around fourteen or fifteen. He was a few inches taller, and his hair was brighter and curlier. He also had striking blue eyes that looked like the sunny sky.
You knew a moderate amount about the Greek myths, which apparently were all true, and if everyone here was descended from a god like Ian said, you assumed the boy was related to the god Apollo, which was an insane thought. It led you to wonder what deity could possibly be your parent. Obviously, you had affinities for certain things, but nothing jumped out as godlike capabilities. You couldn’t, say, fly around or raise the dead- at least, as far as you knew.
You were broken out of your reverie by the sunny boy at the foot of your bed.
”Oh, you’re awake!”
He was very bubbly. You’d never admit it, but his overly cheerful demeanor was a bit annoying and overbearing in your groggy state. Nothing against him, he just seemed like a bit much.
”I’m Will Solace, head medic here at Camp Half-Blood. I heard you took quite the scratch from a Gorgon back there. Don’t worry, I got you patched up, a little bit of godly food does wonders, as you’ll soon find out.”
Your head swam with all the new information. You couldn’t take in everything at once, so you went down your list, making sense of one thing at a time.
”Um… am I okay?”
Will smiled softly and suppressed a chuckle before responding.
”Yeah, I should be able to let you out in just a few hours. You’d be surprised how quickly a demigod can heal.”
That response led you into your next question.
”You call me a demigod. What does that even entail? Are one of the Greek gods my parent?”
”Yes, Y/N, you’re a demigod. Well, technically, you could be a legacy, meaning you’re descended from but not directly the child of a god- but Ian told me you smell more powerful. You’re definitely the child of a god. Probably a decently powerful one, too- at least Olympian-level.”
You hated when answers seemed to bring about more questions than they answered.
”What do you mean Ian said I smelled powerful?”
”Oh, right. Well, I’m sure you saw, but Ian’s a satyr- half human, half goat. Mythical creatures like him are normally able to sense godly presence through some kind of smell, which is probably the same reason one of Medusa’s sisters was following you. Trust me, it sounds as weird to me as it does to you.”
Well, at least a few questions got answered there. One question still remained in your mind, however.
”So, Will… which god is my parent?”
”Honestly, I don’t know. The way it used to be, some people never found out. Luckily a guy named Percy Jackson fixed that.”
”Wait, the guy who actually didn’t end up being a domestic terrorist a few years ago?”
”Yep, that’s the one. He’s actually a son of Poseidon who killed a couple Titans. Anyway, point is, you should find out soon enough.”
You aren’t sure what to think. What even happens now? How does life as a demigod work?
At that point, another boy walked into the room. He had long shaggy black hair and obsidian-tinted eyes, which looked very unnatural. He looked unhealthily pale and skinny. In a way, he looked like a walking corpse.
When he walked in, Will blushed slightly, a bit of pink splayed across his cheeks, which surprised you.
”Um, Y/N, this is Nico. He’s a son of Hades.”
Hades? The god of the Underworld Hades? What could it possibly mean for a child of Hades to visit you? Is this a bad omen?
Will caught the look in your eye.
”Don’t worry, Y/N, Hades really gets a bad reputation from pop culture. You’re fine.”
You breathed a sigh of relief but weren’t completely reassured.
Nico finally spoke up. You weren’t sure what to expect from his voice, but he sounded surprisingly normal- just a young kid who happened to look intensely creepy.
”Hey, Will. Heard someone new showed up. Came to see for myself. Who is this?”
Will responded quickly.
”Oh,-“
Will stopped short realizing he wasn’t completely sure what pronoun to call you.
”Um, Y/N, just to be sure- what should I call you?”

Some notes since this is the last chapter everybody will read- if you get to a stopping place or the end of one timeline, be sure to remember what chapter you ended on.
Also, I know some people might not like that gender is limited to two options. This decision is the only one that doesn’t actually make an impact in the story for the most part, it just changed what pronouns you’ll be called. I only have these two right now because I’d rather not rewrite every chapter a million times with different pronouns. But, if you enjoy the story and think a different pronoun applies to you, just let me know and I’ll add what you want if I get time.
Anyway, thanks for reading part one everybody!
