Work Text:

That day, their travels took them to the National Museum of Ninjago, located in the heart of the capital city.

The building seemed almost abandoned, it being a Monday afternoon, when the institution is officially closed.

Kai didn't really question it. At this point, he and his sister got quite used to Wu's unusual trips around the world.

Although he has to admit how mysterious forests and swamps, or remote villages were way more common destinations than up here.. He was always fascinated by the huge buildings, the blinding lights, the noise.

He saw more people here than ever before in his entire life.

Nya was dazzling. She was just dancing around, pointing at things, and asking Uncle Wu billions of questions of what things were and how they worked. Like always, the old man kept patiently answering with the best of this knowledge.

Meanwhile, his little brother didn't really seem to enjoy himself as much, keeping his long, sensitive ears swiftly covered with his hands under his hood, whimpering in their uncle's arms.

After another few miles of walking, they finally reached their destination, and got inside through the opened back door.

They started observing the paintings and statues in the first hall, but Nya and Lloyd got bored quickly, and ran ahead.

"Wooooooooah. An entire dinosaur! This is so awesome!" cheered the girl in cyan, observing the skeleton from all angles.

"It's a Grundle. Those things are really scary." shuddered his little brother, scratching his arm under his sleeves in frustration.

"Don't worry Lloyd, the text says that it's long extinct, there's no need to be afraid of them."

"Ex- tinc?"

"It means that all of them are dead by now, and they won't come back."

"Phew. That's good. You have no idea how fast those were. They would find you no matter how you ran or where you hid. And and- they'd rip you will their huge fangs and-"

"Woah, Slow down." warned Kai, stepping into the room with Wu.

"It sounds like to me that someone with an active imagination read waay too much about these dinosaurs" He held Lloyd's hand to stop him from scratching.

"No, that's not true. I actually seen one when I was little!"

"Sure sure, little guy."

"Uncle Wu, Kai is being mean!"

"Now now, let everyone believe how they may."

"Hmpf." pouted the kid in green, running ahead behind Nya.

"C'mon, Lloyd, wait up!" Lloyd froze midway in the next room, staring ahead, like he just saw a ghost.

"Lloyd?" When Kai followed his gaze, he found a very old lady covered in wrinkles with dark grey hair and green eyes, behind old fashioned thick glasses. She was sitting slightly dented ahead, playing with a forest green scarf around her neck with one hand, and examining some scrolls (even more ancient than her) with the other.

Upon hearing them enter, she looked up, and flashed a sad smile to the boy behind her papers.

"Hello little ones. Enjoying your trip around the museum?"

"Mhm!" replied Nya, returning a bright smile. Lloyd, however did not move.

"That's good. Most youngsters these days never learn to respect our history." She smiled again, this time, a bit more genuinely.

"Would you kids like some candy? The gift shop is up ahead. Today it's on the house."

"Yes please!" Giggled Nya, running ahead. She turned back and said bye to the nice old lady, then no doubt went to fill her pockets, despites Wu's protests. Kai offered to check on her with Lloyd, but the latter was still cemented in place.

"C'mon, Lloyd. Say bye to the lady." but Lloyd just kept staring at her with his glowing red and green eyes, like he was looking into the woman's soul, as he was gently pulled out of the room by his older brother.

When the kids were out of an earshot, Wu spoke.

"Misako. Why did you call me here?"

Notes:

Hello again! Thank you for getting this far, and I hope you enjoyed :)

The next installment of the 'mute' Lloyd AU needs a little bit more work, so for now, I decided to dust up the old museum oneshot I teased in the comments.
This one is super short, with the RGB siblings interacting like the First Spinjitsu Master intended lol
Much like in my previous work, the same hybrid rules apply to Lloyd, except in this AU, he's a lot more talkative.

He's is aging very differently from humans, due to his Oni and Dragon origins. In the meantime, decades passed, and Misako is probably over a hundred by now. Well, she was the one who chose her work above his son, so Wu can't help but be a little resentful. He only came because he knows she probably doesn't have long left, and it was her last wish to entrust her findings to him and see her son one last time.
Lloyd does faintly recognize her, but he doesn't remember who she is. Misako refuses to be a part of his life again, because she might regret her decision now, but wants to spare Lloyd from the grief.

Thank you, Horsefoxwolf, for being my amazing beta reader ❤
