Work Text:

Abbas can't tell if the reason he can't sleep is his home-sickness or the fact that he was sleeping on the floor with only a towel as his mattress and a pillow probably as hard as rocks. Either way, it was between this dorm or that luxurious and wide room that was offered to him, though he pretty much preferred this.

The boy kept tossing and turning on each side to find a comfortable spot, ultimately choosing to be sprawled across the floor instead when that plan inevitably failed. Everyone in the dorm was already asleep from what he could tell— so he should be asleep too, since there was something planned tomorrow. At least that's what he heard from Mazli.

To his demise, the latter was still awake as well, who stuck his head out of the mattress to look at Abbas with a huge grin plastered on his face.

"Hang dakleh tidur jugak ka?" Mazli started, when he saw that Abbas nodded he continued, "Kalau dak, mau dak sembang sikit?" asked he.

He immediately shook his head, turning on his back on Mazli to face the other side. "Jangan haraplah. Aku malas nak dengar kau cakap." Abbas replied with the most disinterested tone he could say it with. He was exhausted from the tight schedule that left him no time for him to rest, it was no wonder why this was called a noble Malay school.

Still, he liked Mazli's company; who always had a say about nothing and everything, who could make the most boring topic somehow interesting and was always right beside him during class or everywhere he went. But then again, Mazli can get pretty suffocating since he was always near the other's space.

A sigh came out of Mazli, whose gaze was still on Abbas. "Takpa, aku biasa dah cakap sorang diri." he muttered quietly, which made Abbas turn around from how faint his voice was. He sounded like he was about to tear up.

It seems like Abbas is going to have to sacrifice his sleep to accompany his friend. He sat up from his make-shift mattress to look up at Mazli properly, still with that same shit-eating grin. "Orang gila je cakap sorang diri. Dah, kenapa kau takleh tido?" Abbas asked curiously, seeing that Mazli is always sleeping soundly everytime.

For a moment, Mazli stopped to think of what to say, which was probably the quietest he's been for a few days. After gaining an answer, he sat up on the bed before speaking,

"Masa aku susah nak tidur, mak ku selalu tepuk belakang ku 'tuk buat aku tenang. Kalau dia takda, aku yang tepuk belakang ku sendiri hingga aku penat. Aku dak buat dah sekarang, tapi aku rindu bila dia tepuk belakangku sehingga la aku tidur." he said, which didn't really answer the question, but it was still an answer nonetheless.

Abbas takes a minute to process what was said, this guy really talks alot, doesn't he? "..Itu ke sebab kau takleh tido?" he tilts his head slightly as he stated that, the other nodded his head enthusiastically right after.

"Lepastu? Asai hang dak tidur lagi?" Mazli asked, trying to keep the topic going. He doesn't even let Abbas speak before he responds back to his own question, "Ini mesti pasai si Kuda tu, kan? Taksa pikir pasai dia, bukan dia tahu apa pon."

"Engkau jangan nak memandai," Abbas quickly retorted as he fell flat onto the towel-mattress, he added, "Aku hanya rindu rumah je. Dengan adik aku." he mumbled, looking ahead to reminisce about them.

"Dan mak hang?" Mazli questioned, unfortunate for him because all he got was a glare as sharp as daggers. "Ohh.. Anaq yatim piatu…" he whispered to himself after putting the pieces together.

The two don't speak for a moment, caught up in their own thoughts. If it weren't for the fact that it was 11:00p.m on a Tuesday night, Mazli would've been asking Abbas more questions about his family and background origins. But that would disturb the whole dorm (Abbas included) so maybe not.

Mazli suddenly has an even brighter smile than before, who took a deep breath before speaking up. "Hang nak dak tidur atas katih aku? Banyaq ruang nih." he offers, scooting to the side a bit before patting on the free space beside him, a gesture for Abbas to get on the bed.

The latter was taken aback by the offer. Not that he found it weird, because boys do it all the time, right? But it was just that he'd never done it with someone that wasn't his brother. After fighting with his thoughts, he lets out a breathy sigh before standing up and sitting at the edge of Mazli's bed. "Jangan peluk aku." he warned, laying down on the bed.

"Hamba janji dakkan." Mazli said it in the most convincing tone ever, now laying down beside him. They both sleep with their backs turning on eachother, not even saying their good nights.

Mazli sleeps first and before Abbas can even react, he was spooned by the shorter boy with an exceptionally tight grip. He tries to get a hold of his grip but fails from how tired he was, the boy was going to sleep like this for the whole night, then.

Abbas sleeps second, eventually Mazli's grip loosens and they both wrap around each other without realising it, now cuddling.

They both sleep soundly with Mazli's head resting on Abbas's chest, and the latter holding onto the shorter boy's dark hair. When it was time to wake up, both boys were confused at how they were tangled onto each other but decided not to talk about it.

It was the best rest they've gotten since they joined KUDRAT anyway.
