Bird's Cage

Summary:

A poem for my literacy contest in my school that unfortunately didn't place. It's about mourning for a loved one to the point it's impossible to let go of them, even though there are better opportunities waiting for you.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Those crimson stains still weep till this day,
Though your soul's ebbed, the blight in my heart still stayed.
Your face's like a whirlpool— how long has my mind been altered?
The fragments of your image still clatter.

A withered hand once grappled onto my veins,
Whispering to me, "don't depart, just stay until it rains."
And when the sun has set on the west,
The sickening burden downpoured on my chest.

I still remember— the ivory ribbons and white orchids.
But the buzzing chime in my head will never be sorted.
I was in front of you, raining from the inside up until I was dry.
Maybe that's what you meant, because I was your sky.

I don't know if I'm able to unlock the cage,
Because it would mean that I'd escape from the stage.
All I'm seeing is the lush greenery and the air of sunshine,
Unfortunately, It's an invitation I have to decline.

Notes:

I may be joining another inenvitable poetry contest in my school. It's anually fortunately enough. Also, I've been noticing a hella pattern in my poem/s in school. They're always about mourning, death, and even suicide. I once remember pulling a poem in my Filipino exam(it's required btw) and it was all about suicide. I'm not one who wants to kill themselves, since I'm planning to live life like always. But I've always perceived it as something deep. Instead of the big ol' lovey dovey themes and the overachiever type of styles in poems I regularly see, why not death? Idk, anddddddd now I've hella ranted in my notes. Huhu
