Scentember Day Nine: Sea Salt

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Steve rests his forehead against Danny’s shoulder from behind.

“What are you doing?” He’s skeptical but by now he’s almost used to the way Steve is.

“Resting.”

“Yeah, I can see that, but can I ask why, out of everywhere to rest properly, you decide that my shoulder was the best place?” His arms and shoulders move with his gesticulations. With each movement, he feels Steves forehead roll will it. Danny gains an inkling of satisfaction from it.

“Can smell you here.”

“Wh—What does that even mean?”

Steve slowly rolls his head so he’s still resting on Danny’s shoulder, now with his nose tucked into the crook of his neck.

“Smells good, like a warm day at the beach, even though you say you hate it. You smell like home now. And—“ Before Danny could process his words, and even begin to predict what Steve might do next, Danny fells the soft pad of Danny’s tongue drag along his neck slowly. Slow enough, in fact, Danny would ponder later, for him to have recoiled away. Instead, Steve lays his head back down and sniffs his neck. “You taste like sea salt too.”
