Chapter 1: A Camera Worth Breaking

Chapter Text

From the humid heat of the falling sun to the uneven ground that could easily make you fall, Trophy sought to find a quiet and beautiful place in hopes of finding a great view worth taking pictures of.

Instead, he spent hours like a traveler lost without a map, passing tree after tree in the forest that surrounds the island of Inanimate Insanity.

Trophy was sweating, dehydrated, and was only meant to stay out for an hour or two, though it was already past sunset. Trophy just had to lose his way around. It's not like anyone had actually spent their life in this forest anyways 🌮.

As the sun disappeared beyond the trees, he kept stumbling his way around, losing the only source that had made his surroundings visible to him. Now, Trophy just had to rely on the light illuminating from the moon.

Trophy pulled out his phone from inside his cup, seeing the dead battery sign flash from his device.

"Great.. just great," he groaned, placing his phone back into his cup next to his camera.

If only he wasn't so arrogant in the first place, believing that he was capable of finding his way back to the hotrl before sunset without calling anybody to help him if he had the chance. Even if he had, Trophy highly doubted that anyone would help him at all because of the relationship he had with those in Hotel OJ.

Plus, he avoided talking with most of those people anyway, taking up photography to be able to escape elsewhere, taking pictures worth remembering. That's normally how he escaped from his jock persona from whatever MePhone created him to be, as it just lets him do whatever he wanted whenever he was with his camera.

Trophy grumbled, somewhat angry and upset that he had spent hours lost like an abandoned puppy, unable to find what he was looking for or his way back to the hotel.

He made another mark on a tree, which he had started making marks on different trees that he passed every few mins. Though, when he looked at the tree again, he realized there was already a mark he made previously there.

Trophy stared at it.

He went in a circle.

Which pissed him off even more.

He punched the tree, wanting to take out his anger, but instead got his knuckles scraped.

He slid down, his back resting against the tree bark. Trophy just wanted to find his way back into the hotel, and he wanted to do this himself to prove that he was capable of it.

Trophy got up, just wanting to get this over with, and started running in a random direction in hopes of finding the Hotel. Running past trees, some of which were marked, jumping over rocks and ducking under branches.

He ran and ran, looking back to see how far he had gotten through—which was a horrible idea—as when he turned back around, he got smacked by a branch in the face, stumbling back before tripping on a rock and falling back, his phone and camera falling out too from his cup.

Trophy groaned, physically hurt despite trying to hide it behind his jock persona. He just layed there exhausted until he heard someone.

"Pfffft- didn't expect to see a jock on the floor because of a branch," a rough, gruff voice spoke.

Trophy looked up from where he is, seeing Knife picking up Trophy's phone and camera off the ground.

"Fuck off, give me my stuff back."

Trophy stood up, staring dead at Knife, fist curling.

Knife smirked, wanting to tease him for a bit.

"Come and get it then, jock," he sneered, slowly taking steps back while dangling the camera around by its strap.

There's two things about Trophy that others from the Hotel should know by now. 1, that he actually despises Knife, considering he and the jerk fought and argued all the time. And 2, nobody messes with any of his belongings, especially his camera.

Trophy lunged himself, tackling Knife to the ground to attempt to take his camera back, sitting on Knife's handle to pin the jerk down.

Knife wasn't letting it go without a fight, both throwing their fists and swinging at each other.

Knife grinned, quickly thinking of a way that Trophy's probably going to kill his ass for.

He moved Trophy's camera between them, and before Trophy could realize what he was doing, he swung his fist down and broke it.

*His camera.*

Trophy froze, the sharp glass of the lens cutting into his already scraped knuckles, the remains of his broken camera scattered on the ground next to the blade.

Trophy stared at it, his anger boiling as he started swinging hard at Knife.

"WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU ACTUALLY DO THAT, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"

He yelled, tears forming from his eyes as he slowed down, moving off Knife to sit in front of his broken camera.

Knife knew he fucked up, but why should he care? They were *enemies* after all, weren't they?

He sat up from the ground, staring at the jock as he tried piecing the parts of the camera back together.

"Why the hell are you crying?" he asked, sounding more confused than anything else. There was a bit of concern there too, but Knife wasn't about to admit that.

"You shit head.. you bitch, why would you do that. You broke my camera. You broke my fucking camera."

Trophy teared up, grabbing onto Knife's wrist and yanking him toward the broken mess of the camera.

"You made me b-break my camera, did you not know what my camera means to me?"

He stared at the blade, wanting to beat the crap out of him but not in the emotional state to do so.

Knife stared at the golden participation award, realizing that he may or may not have done something he would probably regret, considering he done a shit move.

But Knife brushed it off, yanking his wrist free.

"It's just a stupid camera. Aren't you supposed to be a jock making people afraid of you instead of doing this wussy hobby?"

Trophy stared at him for a moment before breaking down, throwing punches at Knife again, unable to control his emotions.

"NO! You don't even understand. Nobody likes me at all, you're the only person who actually gives a shit ab-about me.. nobody doesn't even talk to me at all unless if I talk to them first but they always make an excuse to leave cuz they don't even like interacting with me at all. Why else would I be with m-my camera taking pictures of shit? It's because to escape this shit hole of a place where I obviously don't belong but you're always making it worse!"

Knife was stunned at what came out of Trophy's mouth.

He had always noticed that Trophy always took pictures of crap or avoided talking to people, but he never really thought about a reason for why hes like that in the first place.

Maybe that's why Trophy always got so pissed whenever Knife messed with him about it.

Knife looked at the broken camera again, then back at Trophy.

"Shit.. my bad. I- well.. I'm sorry. I mean it, yk. We could always ask Test Tube to fix your camera. I only meant it as a joke, yk. Didn't expect for you to actually break your camera, here."

Knife reached toward the camera pieces, carefully picking up one of the bigger pieces.

Trophy stared at him for a second, still wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.

"Whatever..”

Trophy grabbed his phone that had fallen beside him, placing it inside his cup before taking the pieces of the camera.

Though, he got cut again from one of the sharp broken pieces of the camera, hissing and checking his bleeding hands.

Trophy was about to punch the floor until Knife grabbed Trophy's hand.

"Don't. You'll just make it worse. Just let me handle it, okay?"

Knife started grabbing the pieces himself, not caring if he got cut since, well, he wore fingerless gloves, so the pieces didn't cut his fingers too much as he scooped them up.

He removed any dirt from the pieces before placing them in Trophy's cup for now.

Trophy wiped his eyes, trying to hide how red they were with his hands, not like Knife was paying attention right now. Though, he still let him place the pieces into his cup.

Trophy didn't really understand why Knife was acting kind and caring right now, but it was probably from pity.

After a while, Knife got all of the pieces and stood up, giving a hand to help get Trophy up, but Trophy didn't need pity right now and stood up without Knife's help.

"I can get back myself, I don't need your pity.." he muttered, deciding on one direction and starting to walk.

Knife stared at him for a second before snickering.

"You know you're going the wrong way, goldie."

Trophy spun around.

"Fuck off, don't call me that, and I know what way to go. It's not like you know how to get back to the hotel."

"Apparently I know more than you do."

Knife turned and started walking the other direction.

"Just follow me if you don't want to stay til dawn."

Trophy sneered, groaning in annoyance, not wanting to be with Knife but not wanting to be stuck in this hell of a forest any longer.

He grumbled, chasing after Knife before finally catching up to him.

The two stayed silent, both enjoying the quiet.

Though it was broken when Trophy spoke.

"Why were you helping me? We were fighting until you made me break my camera, then it was just pity after that."

Knife looked towards Trophy, watching him for a moment before speaking.

"It wasn't pity. Well.. it probably was a little. But I broke something that you actually cared about. I didn't realize it was that important."

He shrugged.

"Plus, I don't feel like explaining to everyone why I came back without you after I found you wandering around out here like an idiot."

Trophy snorted.

"So basically, you don't wanna get blamed."

"Exactly."

Knife glanced at him.

"Don't get all emotional about it."

Trophy rolled his eyes.

"Pfft- whatever."

He kicked a rock before speaking up.

"I mean, Test Tube can fix it in the morning. I don't even need the photos anyways.. it's just the feeling of taking pictures of whatever just helps me escape from this hell of a society."

He muttered the last part, kicking another rock before speaking up again.

"Also, how do you even know where we're going?"

"Oh, what? Oh yeah. I knew my way around during season 2 when I tried finding Taco was hiding somewhere here. So I got used to navigating my way around in the forest..."

Knife looked ahead.

"...speaking of, we're now out."

Trophy looked up, seeing the hotel in sight.

The relief and exhaustion from the hours being lost finally caught up to him, and he dropped to his knees, just wanting to be in his room already.

Though he yelped as he was lifted off the ground, Trophy's arms immediately wrapping around Knife's handle. 👀

"Wtf, let me down."

"You're tired, goldie. I could tell that you could barely walk at all. When we get inside, you'd probably just pass out."

Knife adjusted his grip.

"So I'm taking you to the infirmary to deal with your hand, then we drop the camera pieces in front of Test Tube's door, then you can sleep." 💤

Knife smirked, though in his mind he was overthinking because of how obvious his concern probably was.

Trophy muttered something before telling Knife to just get it over with.

Knife just started walking to the infirmary, carrying the award whose eyes were about to shut.

Few minutes later, they arrived at the infirmary.

Trophy had already passed out at this point, but Knife laid Trophy onto the bed before taking the pieces of the camera into a container so they didn't fall out.

Knife eventually found what he needed and patched up Trophy's hands while staring at the sleeping man's face.

The blade looked away.

He didn't know why he was bothering this much.

Maybe because he was the one who broke the damn camera in the first place.

Yeah.

That was it.

He left the infirmary to Test Tube's room, leaving the container in front of the door with a small note asking her to fix the camera.

He then came back to the infirmary and carried Trophy all the way to Trophy's room, placing Trophy into his bed before plugging his phone in.

Knife stood there for a moment, looking at Trophy before shaking his head.

"Night, Troph. I'll try to make it up to you tomorrow. Sleep well."

The jerk said quietly before closing the door shut and leaving for the night.
