Chapter Text
Pure Vanilla sat on the edge of his balcony, looking out into the lush green forest. The white marble was cold under his hands and his eyes were heavy with impending sleep. Work was tiring.
The crème republic was currently in the kingdom to discuss the looming war with dark enchantress cookie and the new threat of shadow milk being on the loose. The meeting clotted cream cookie had set up during the afternoon took hours. By the time they finished it was already dusk.
After that, pure vanilla returned to his room. He still had a mountain of letters and paper work to complete.
He sent out some letters to the other ancients about his trip to beast-yeast. It had been a month since his return to crispia and everything seemed back to normal. Other than the feeling of longing for his other half.
He hadn’t talked about it with anyone but he really missed Shadow Milk. If he were to talk about it people they would think he was crazy. Who would want to befriend someone like that? He tried not to think about it.
After writing his letters and completing some paper work, the sun was fully gone. The stars that night shimmered. The sky was a deep blue. It was beautiful.
He decided to sit on the balcony that night. He went down to the kitchen and fixed himself a mug of warm tea. As he walked back to his room, the castle seemed to already be asleep.
Back at his room, he changed into his sleeping clothes and sat outside on the edge of the balcony. It was a chilly night so he had a blanket with him, as well as the book he had been wanting to read. All the work he had over the past couple days took up all his personal time.
He took a sip of his tea and sighed, looking out into the forest. Well, as best as he could see. Mainly, the trees were only green little blobs. He had left his seeing staff inside and was already too comfortable to grab it.
He sat there for another hour. He probably should have gone to bed sooner, he had his last meeting with the crème republic early in the morning and needed rest, but the book he was reading made him lose track of time.
Pure Vanilla set down his book and almost prepared to get up when he heard a familiar voice. More like a chuckle. He thought he was hearing things; he knew he was tired but he didn’t realize he was that tired.
He hopped off the balcony and was about to grab his mug when Shadow Milk appeared right in front of him. He was floating in the air, staring at him with that big smug smile he always had on.
It took a second for Pure Vanilla to process, and when he did he jumped back in fear. Not in fear of Shadow Milk but in surprise he was here (also because he appeared directly in front of his face). He would have fallen off the balcony if shadow milk didn’t catch him.
“What… Shadow Milk, I- what are you doing here?”
“I’ve rethought your offer…”
