A new consultant was hired by Lisbon at first, everyone is confused why their team needs a new consultant when Jane is already there. It had been a week since the new guy had been there. Rigsby, Van Pelt and Cho noticed that the consultant was always close to Lisbon, like constantly leaning on her or always following her around the bullpen. They also had noticed how Jane always stared or glanced at them every time they passed by. There was a new case that they needed to work on and Lisbon decided to take the new consultant with her instead of Jane. Yet he will still do the work on the case.
Jane insisted that he didn’t care about her choices cause it’s hers not his. Yet, deep inside he felt like he’s been replaced by that new consultant and something else more deeply that he can’t figure out. Jane was lying on the couch facing the doorway waiting for Lisbon to step inside. She stepped inside standing near the doorway talking to someone, It immediately made Jane smile because Lisbon is in his vision. He tip-toed closer to her standing behind her.
“Good morning, Lisbon.” He beamed making Lisbon jump a little at the sudden voice on her back. She turned around and smacked his arm.
“Ow, that hurts.” Jane rubs his arm and mocks a pout at her.
She chuckled at his pout. “What do you want now?” She asked
“Do you want coffee?” He asked, grinning widely at her.
“You’re being nice today, Jane. Perhaps there is something good that happened to you today?” She grinned back at him.
“Oh it’s nothing, I just woke up and decided to be nice.” He joked, flashing a playful smile at her.
“Yeah, yeah whatever just go get me a coffee.” She laughed as she pushed him towards the door.
He chuckled and stepped out to get her coffee and his tea inside the office kitchen. While walking towards the kitchen he looked back seeing Lisbon’s radiant and bright smile that lights up his day that barely even started yet. He made the coffee just how she always liked, a black coffee with one teaspoon of sugar. He observed the way she made her coffee every morning or when she’s working late. He also made his tea on his favorite turquoise teacup. He grabbed the mug on his left hand while his teacup on his right and slowly walked back to the office.
When he stepped inside he saw Lisbon with the new consultant his smile immediately falters turning into a frown. Lisbon turned to get her coffee from his hand so he put a forced smile on his face, she muttered a thank you and took a sip of the coffee and she got back talking to the new consultant. Jane sat back down on his couch glaring at the man while sipping his tea. Every time the man made Lisbon smile or chuckle he would roll his eyes at him.
The team had noticed Jane’s sudden change of demeanor and Lisbon always being with the new consultant so they gathered on Van Pelt’s desk to talk about what’s happening around them.
“Is it me or Jane is pretty much staring at those two for a while?” Cho asked them.
“Yeah, I know he is pretty much glaring at them.” Van Pelt replied.
“Uh oh he’s definitely jealous isn’t he?” Rigsby whispered to them.
They looked at Jane then to those two. “Yeah he’s definitely jealous.” Cho remarked and Rigsby and Van Pelt nod in agreement
Three of them are just exchanging their looks at Jane, Lisbon and the consultant. When Lisbon was done talking she took a glance at them and they quickly pretended that they were doing some work together but Lisbon didn’t buy the act that they were putting on.
“You three enough chit chatting and go back to your desks.” Lisbon commanded them and they immediately scattered back to their own designated desk.
Lisbon was walking out the bullpen and Jane was just intensely staring at her back. She stopped by her tracks for a while thinking she forgot something that she needed to say. When she realized she did, she stepped back inside the bullpen to announce something.
“I forgot to tell you guys that there’ll be a meeting in ten minutes for the details of our new case. Don’t be late.” She stepped out and stopped again to look at Jane. “I’m talking about you, Jane. Don’t be late or I’ll kick you.” She warned him. Jane just looked up at the tea he’s drinking and shrugged. Lisbon finally strode out the room to go inside her own office room.
After nine minutes Cho, Van Pelt, Rigsby and the new consultant are already inside Jane and Lisbon is not there yet. Lisbon walked inside Jane following behind her. Jane was about to say something to Lisbon but the new consultant interrupted that moment with his step closer to her.
Jane stood beside Cho glaring at the new guy again clearly pissed at what he’s seeing.
“You look very beautiful today, Teresa.” The new consultant flirted as he moved his hand to tuck her hair behind her ear.
“Thank you for saying that.” Lisbon smiled and blushed at the sudden compliment. “No one has really complimen-” She’s been cut off by Jane.
“I think Lisbon prefers gorgeous and stunning because that’s what she is. Also, your flirting techniques are quite bad I suppose and I know someone could do better than that.” Jane accidentally blurted because of the jealousy he was feeling. He clears his throat as he realizes everyone is staring at him.
“Jane?” Lisbon asked and he hummed in response trying to act chill like he didn’t blurted out something seconds ago.
“Are you jealous, Jane?” Lisbon asked, her face was a little puzzled.
“W-what? N-no! Why…w-why would I…” His face was in a bright shade of red as he stammered searching for the right words.
He clears his throat looking down at his feet. “J-just discuss the new case…” He cleared his throat once more.
After that awkward tension around the room Lisbon discussed the case that they needed to work on. Everything they need to do, people they need to interrogate and the places they need to search. Afterwards they all left the room Lisbon and Jane accidentally bumped their shoulders and their hands brushed too. He apologized which he never did and quickly scrambled away.
Days have already passed by and they finally resolved the case but mostly it was Jane who resolved it. The new consultant barely helped all of them in this case yet, Lisbon praises him more than she did to Jane. Lisbon told them there’ll be a small celebration for the case they closed.
They celebrated inside this small bar, drinking beer and liquor. Van Pelt and Rigsby are sitting together laughing at each other's jokes. The new consultant is sitting beside Cho, both of them drinking beer. Lisbon was sitting alone on the bar counter so Jane approached her seemingly lonely figure. He sat beside her and she looked at him.
“You closed another case huh?” Lisbon said, Jane chuckled
“No, we closed a case.” Jane corrected her words.
Lisbon asked the bartender to get them two bottles of beer. The bartender placed the beer on the counter, both of them grabbed their beers.
“Wanna go outside for fresh air?” Jane asked. Lisbon nodded once they both stood up and she followed Jane outside the bar. Outside it was quiet compared to the loud music and voices inside the bar.
The cold wind brushed against their skin. Lisbon finally broke the quiet awkward tension between them.
“Jane?” She asked and Jane hummed in response. “Be honest with me. That time when our new consultant was flirting with me. We’re you jealous?” Lisbon questioned him and he sighed.
“I…I was.” He answered honestly.
“Do you like me?” Lisbon asked and fully faced him.
“I do… Very much, Lisbon. The truth is I…” He holds both of Lisbon’s hands looking directly at her eyes. “I love you, Lisbon.”
Lisbon’s eyes widen her mouth slightly agape. “Jane…” She whispered and he hummed in response. “I do… Love you too if I… I’m going to be honest.” She confessed and he slowly leaned down his face only inches from her.
When he was about to kiss her Rigsby and Van Pelt opened the door, both of them stepping outside. Jane and Lisbon immediately pushed away from each other trying to act like they weren’t doing anything.
“Woah, did we interrupt something?” Rigsby asked, his hands intertwined with Van Pelt. Both of them staring at Lisbon’s and Jane’s flushed face.
“N-no Just… Uh, go do what you want.” Lisbon brushed them off not looking at any of them, her face was in a deep shade of red.
“Are you sure we're not inte-” Rigsby started but Van Pelt cuts him off by pulling him back and she mouths an apology at them before going back inside scolding Rigsby.
They stayed quiet for a few seconds before looking at each other once again. He briefly examines Lisbon’s mesmerizing eyes, his own eyes locking at hers. Lisbon clears his throat and looks away.
“We should head back inside shall we?” He said as he guided her inside. She chuckled at the sudden gentlemanliness.
As they went back inside they both went back to the bar counter. Drinking, talking, and laughing at each other. The others joined beside them too, spending the rest of their night celebrating the case they closed.
The next morning at the bullpen, every day was busy at their own work. After Lisbon and Jane confessed their feelings last night at their celebration either of them does not know how to act around each other. Jane was very unusually shy and Lisbon avoided any eye contact, especially with him. The entire team knows that there’s something going on between those two and it’s becoming pretty much more obvious especially when they accidentally bumped into each other and both of them started whispering apologies at each other then scrambled away.
A little while later Lisbon passed by Jane but he grabbed her arm and carefully dragged her inside the office kitchen, both of them standing on the side where people inside the bullpen can barely see them.
“Lisbon… I… We should stop avoiding each other and pretend last night didn’t happen. Please, Lisbon?” He pleaded as he looked at her with his puppy eyes.
“Okay, fine… I guess but the HR-” Lisbon started but he cut her off with a kiss on the cheek. Lisbon cheeks reddened so much that she could almost turn into a tomato.
One of their co-worker walked inside the kitchen and Jane immediately pushed away from her. She’s still looking down, her face completely flushed. They both went out of the office kitchen entering the interrogation room to talk more privately.
“Lisbon? We have a new case right?” He tilts his head as he asks.
“Yeah, we do, why?” She answered.
“I have a bet. If I solve a case before you do, you’ll go on a date with me.” He said with a huge grin on his face.
“Okay then. I accept the bet.” Lisbon agreed she’s been certain that she’ll win.
Jane may or may not be planning this date ever since from the start. They’re both smiling at each other.
“So, where do you consider going home now huh?” She asked, her arms folded.
“Wherever you are, that's my home from now on.” He promised.
He leans down on her, his face only inches from hers and finally their lips collided. The kiss was slow, soft and passionate. His hands cup her cheeks while her arms wrap around his neck.
A loud thud and gasp came from the door and both of them broke away to look and it was Van Pelt.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t see anything I swear!” She yelled and slammed the door closed.
Both of their flushed faces looked at each other and just laughed. After that they both slipped outside to go back to their works.
