Wifies has seen this popup possibly hundreds of times in the past twenty or so minutes.

in the past twenty-ish minutes, Wifies has downloaded over one hundred and thirty four(134+) images from emails and old r-c-s direct messages between Hummer and himself.
Hummer, who still hasnt responded to his email. or his direct messages, or even logged into their now shared world.

Wifies eyes were dry from forgetting to blink, too locked in on downloading every piece of evidence that their friendship was real. that Hummer was real. only when his phone had every single shared image with Hummer even slightly in it; a hand, finger, tie - tv antenna or even a piece of his shoe, did Wifies stop.

he hadnt dared to stop until he had it all, not when his thumb ached from swiping, his head throbbed from blue-light, or his phone began to jitter from memory shortage.

finally exiting their direct channels, Wifies opened his phone gallery and began swiping again, this time with leisure.
nowadays it felt all the time he had was leisurely. he couldnt bear to move on to the next myth, not when every time he opened a thread or whenever he was sparked with an idea, there was no longer someone by his side to experience it with him.

not since Hummer disappeared.

Wifies still couldnt grasp it. Why had Hummer died? where even was he?
surely he was simply busy, or upset that he had died during their attempt. but even before, when they failed hed always be right back up on his feet to try again. what was different this time?
and why wouldnt he respond?

that last question was what stuck with Wifies the most, repeating over and over again in his head, louder each time.
there has been other questions, if Wifies had done something wrong, if Hummer was alright, why the Leviathan hadnt taken Hummer as well.
not a single one was answered.

but Wifies didnt stress. he didnt spam Hummer, he didnt panic and ask what exactly he did to be ghosted. he didnt watch his online status day in - day out, disappointed every time.
because he believed in Hummer, Wifies knew for whatever happened, Hummer would come back.

so with the search for the Leviathan wrapped up, posted and booming, Wifies waited. with his phone storage full and his computer overheating, Wifies sat within their shared world on the same beach they met at, phone in hand. memories in hand.
every single image was a piece of shared history, glimpses into beautiful memories crafted by four hands. two metal and two flesh, both just as gentle as the other.

two hands that cradled a phone, cradled the memories of the missing half.
hands that remained calm knowing that even when the sun sets, it comes right back up again. Learning that while the cold absence of the sun just makes its warmth all the more beautiful.

and Hummer was beautiful, and Hummer was bright. Hummer was Wifies sun, simply setting for a short while just waiting to rise back up. just like he always did. Wifies just needed to be patient.
and so he was patient, scrolling through the pieces of sunshine Hummer had left him in the form of pictures.

each one was a special brand of “Hummer”.
a silly fish he had found in the midst of diving, hed been so excited his finger covered half of the camera. a redstone contraption that had made him particularly angry, a video compressed into a gif of Hummer angrily gesturing at… absolute mechanical nonsense to be frank.
an awkward selfie of himself that Wifies had requested for a “thumbnail”.

he actually just wanted to see Hummer, the poor guy looked like he was being mugged, hed definitely be sweating if he could.

that was merely a glimpse into the mass that Wifies had collected, each one showing different pieces of the man hed grown to cherish. each one building bricks of their bond, each one precious.

Wifies didnt need any questions answered, didnt need to panic or throw a fit. he just needed to wait, to believe in Hummer.
and when Hummer returned, Wifies would have the best stories for him. hes more than positive Hummer would be overjoyed to hear the story of the chapal within the sky, if not disappointed he couldnt experience it himself.

but thats alright, because when Hummer returned they could do it again, and this time he would definitely see it.
Wifies could already imagine it.
He just had to be patient, Hummer would come back.

and so Wifies would be patient. he didnt check online statuses, he didnt stalk inboxes, he didnt search the server theyd lost each other in. he didnt cause a fuss.
because he Believed in Hummer. he always would.

hed believe in Hummer in all the things he did and didnt do, and all the things he didnt want to admit to doing. hed believe in Hummer through all the things he refused to do until Hummer returned, because Wifies knew Hummer would love to do them too.

hed definitely believe in Hummer, and prepare for when he returned.
hed clean that horribly messy house, just to make it messy again with lists of things they could do together. hed compile each piece of his encounter with the Leviathan so Hummer could see it, just to delete it because he was sure Hummer could see it in person. hed make Hummers bed, just to mess it up when he slept in it during a moment of weakness.

Wifies has been having a lot of those lately, but he didnt worry about it. it would be something he could laugh at later, with Hummer. when Hummer returned. all he had to do was be Patient.

and patient Wifies was. taking photos of odd fish he knew Hummer would somehow know about. gathering new myths Hummer may want to investigate with him, most never ocean related.
Wifies was so patient.

he was sure his patience would be rewarded, Hummer has always rewarded his patience - with or without meaning to.
Hummer never failed to, Wifies was positive that eventually, it would be the same this time around too.
