Work Text:
It was nearing the hours of the night. The sun made it's slow descent in the sky. You had minimal time to admire the scenery of the sky, as you kept on riding down along the highway. The breeze would've felt nice on your face, but you valued still having your head all in one piece more than anything else. Alright, only a few ten minutes left until I get to Al's! He's been raving about this reunion for nearly a month now...
It's not like you hated that he was excited about tonight! It was only fair he was like this, since you were gone for a good while. Keeping in touch via text message and video call wasn't enough to satiate him, apparently. You also got to see the other countries, which was also a considerate relief. Of course, you were able to visit neighbouring countries, but this meet-up? This was a big deal! There was no way you could turn down the offer for anything else in the world.
Well, if we're talking about checking out whether your baby was in top condition, though...
No time to dwell on that. Hopefully Alfred's not gonna call me in the middle of-
Ooooh, you shouldn't have really said that. Because your phone immediately began to ring. Annoyed, you pressed accept. "Hello?! Aren't you aware I'm literally driving down the highway as we speak?!"
A soft voice came from the other end. Erika. "Oh! I-I'm sorry! I thought you-"
"Hey! Nobody talks to Erika like that! Especially not you!" A much more rougher voice interrupted Erika's. You recognised that hedgehog-esque country from anywhere. It was Switzerland, or, informally, Basch Zwingli. Rolling your eyes under your mask, you hissed back. "Okay, I'm sorry, but I don't usually expect any calls while I'm on the road! It usually frightens me, and- SHIT!"
You immediately swerved out of the way of a drunk driver, who angrily slurred at you in response. Rolling your eyes, you faced back at the road. "Got anything else to say, Basch?"
"...Nevermind. Drive safe." He added with a touch of finality, before hanging up. Refocusing on the road, you gripped the handles tight. The thought of your best friend Alfred made your mood better somewhat. "I'll be there soon, you hamburger inhaler..."
----
It's been a considerable while of you riding down the highway, into the city, and into the suburb this reunion was gonna be held at. Slowly, you scoured all of the houses to see where Alfred was. "Should be the next turn...that's number 11...13...there we are!" You perked up. Slowly, you stopped the engine, parked somewhere near his house, and took a moment to stretch out your joints. Taking off your helmet, you swished off any remaining hair that stuck to your face.
Walking up to the driveway, you were immediately greeted by the faces of Manon and Elizabeta. "Ah, what took you so long?!" The latter squealed, as she jumped up to hug you. Chuckling, you returned the embrace, before letting out a very dramatised sigh. "Oh, Ellie, Manon, it was a damn nightmare! Traffic left and right, wherever I went! It was as if some divine being knew I was gonna be here!"
Both women laughed at your dramatics, before the Belgian one perked up. "Hey! That reminds me, Alfred's been wondering when you'd get here!"
Yao, who was nearby drinking some soda, nodded. "Aiyah, that man's been talking non-stop! It's been "you this" and "you that"! Honestly..." He said, adding a hint of playfulness at the end. A chipper laugh escaped your lips at this, before walking over to greet the others. You had time to catch up with Irunya's troubles with money and her relationship with her siblings, and also had the time to chat with Antonio, Lovino, and Feliciano. Lovino, in particular, was curious about your motorbike. "So...you ride motorbikes now?"
"Oh, come on, Lovi'. I've always rode motorbikes!" You laughed, as you took another sip of whiskey.
"Uh-huh..." Antonio teased. You punched his arm a little too hard in response, as he let out a sound between a whimper and a laugh. Slowly backing away, you later briefly greeted Roderich and Gilbert, before being presented with a few of your favourite chocolates by Francis. "Oh! ...Thanks, Francis!"
The French man struck a dramatic pose, "Don't thank me! Thank the American!"
You rolled your eyes in affection, before going into the house. At the table, you were promptly greeted to the sight of Matthew and Arthur engaged in a card game. It's good to see your fellow countries dropping the 'Canada? Isn't that just America?' act. Well, they still did, time to time. You know they had to keep up appearances. "Tell me who won when your game of cards is over, boys."
Your voice frightened them briefly, but you just laughed it off, encouraging them to do the same. Walking over to the kitchen, where Alfred was getting out some meat for the barbecue, you leaned over the counter. "Ahem. Your attention please, Mr. "I'm the Hero"."
Alfred nearly jumped out of his own skin, before promptly turning around. His frightened expression turned into one of excitement, as he immediately ran out to give you a hug. You laughed heartily, the sound practically booming through his house. He remained where he was for a few moments, before reluctantly releasing you from the crushing embrace. "So...you actually made it?"
"Obviously. Who in Hell's name would you think I am, otherwise?"
As you engaged in a lengthy conversation with your friend, you took the time to...examine him. He's grown so much mature, these past few years you haven't been able to see him in person. Of course, he still held that stubborn streak, and was prone to making a fuss during meetings. But you were captivated. What god gave him permission to look this handsome?
You were immediately snapped out of your daze when Alfred asked you something, "Hey, so...about this bike of yours...am I able to see it, perchance?"
There was a pause, followed by a chuckle being pulled out of you. "Course you can! Come with me, I'll show you."
----
You went outside of his house, and showed Alfred your motorbike. He couldn't rip his eyes away from it. He knew you were a girl who didn't like living life sitting around like dead weight. You'd always ought to be somewhere. But damn! The immaculate care you took for it...
"So pristine... Hey, how much did this thing cost?"
"Oh, I practically got it for free. My dad gave it to me because he was getting old and gradually lost interest in motorbikes." you smiled bittersweetly, thinking back to your dad. His health slowly deteriorated with his age, "Nowadays, the same dad who'd take me on joyrides and let me build a treehouse with him is just sitting in a chair. He's still longing for that thrill in life again."
Alfred nodded, understanding that the talk about quasi-immortal beings and their, in most cases, otherwise mortal parents. "Must be rough for your old man."
"Ah, nothing to get so worked up about. I've had a nice life with him. Besides, he knows his time is coming up soon." You smiled, sunny demeanour back in place. Your dad still hasn't told you how much it costed him, but judging by the fact that your mum nearly killed him over it, you took a guess that it must've been hella expensive.
"...Nice bike." Alfred blurted out. Pride filled your heart, as you leaned back, your bike supporting you, as you took another sip of whiskey.
"Thanks, bud."
"You got nice titties, too."
His next sentence made you spit your whiskey out all over the asphalt. Him? Out of all people, he had to say that out loud?! "...I beg your pardon?"
Alfred, realising what his words meant, immediately stumbled over his words. Initially caught up in a verbal storm of curses and apologies, he rubbed the back of his neck, "Shit- Sorry! It's just you also look a lot different from the last time I saw you! A-And the clothes your wearing don't really help my imagination! But what I really meant to say was..."
Once again, the bespectacled man stumbled over his words, before finding them. "...Can I have your number?!"
The question was forced out of his lips. You thought for a moment, before having a very devious idea brew up in your head. Giggling like a greedy goblin, you took his phone out of his pocket. Alfred tried and struggled to get it back from you, whining about how there's a lot of his secrets stored in his phone. In actuality, you were busy typing up your number, putting the contact under your name.
"Voila. There's my number." You winked, giving his phone back. The man looked at it for a while, before staring back up at you, as you walked back to the house. ...That girl really is amazing. What kind of spell did she put on me...
Your attempt at grace, however, failed spectacularly. The alcohol hit you, and you stumbled, planting straight into the cobblestone path to his door. "...Ow." you weakly protested. The whiskey was good to have after a long ride, at least. Alfred immediately rushed to help you up and into the house. You settled down into a plush couch. "...Yea, no, I ain't driving back...nor am I trusting anyone to drive me home."
Alfred laughed a bit, running his hands through your hair. He planted a kiss on your forehead, before heading off to plate up some food for you. "Did you bring anything?"
"...Didn't have time. Plus, my motorbike can only carry so much shit. Will sweet treats from home do?"
"They're more than enough! I'll get Matthew to fetch those." Alfred smiled to himself, as he finished plating up your food, placing it down on the coffee table next to you, along with a tall glass of water. "You can stay the night. I don't want you driving home like this."
Your only response was a weak thumbs-up, before you slumped off to sleep. He looked back at you, making sure that someone was keeping a watchful eye on you, before going out into the driveway.
----
"There you are! We've been wondering where you were for a while!" Lovino cried out rather impatiently, running up to Alfred, who was carrying the meat for the barbecue. Feliciano, however, noticed the small, giddy smile his American friend had on his face. "Um... Alfred? Did anything happen between you and her back then?"
"Oh, nothing much! You know, just exchanging numbers and all!" Alfred chuckled, making his way to the grill. The other countries present turned their head around, shocked that the supposedly immature man managed to get someone's number. And not in a "oh, let's be friends!" way, either. Gilbert was especially flabbergasted.
"MR. IMMATURE PUSSY PANTS GOT A GIRL'S NUMBER?!"
"Gilbert Beilschmidt, shut the fuck up!" You and Ludwig, who was a neighbouring country to you, yelled out in unison. The man immediately zipped his lips. Matthew, in the midst of all this, stood there awkwardly, your sweets still in hand.
"...So, do I just place these somewhere, or...?"
