You don't even have the right to take him away from me.

Summary:

After losing ThatMob in his own timeline, Verity became immersed in the flow of data, traversing various worlds until he encountered one where That Mob was still alive—and had never met Verity like him.

Notes:

After watching Reff's video—which served up so many VeriMob moments I was practically stuffed to the brim—I realized it was time for some fanfiction.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

A cold, lifeless body; a white room splattered with blood.

It all happened in the blink of an eye—just before Minecraft’s respawn system could kick in. ThatMob’s body dissolved, vanishing just as any other mob in this world does upon death. Yet, Verity could no longer reappear at his friend’s spawn point. There was no chance left, for what had been taken from Verity was not mere binary code, but a life.

A life not defined by zeros and ones.

The life of ThatMob.

Human life is always fleeting; Verity was already prepared for that.

The fifty years or so that he and Mob would spend together—aligning with the average human lifespan—made the situation easier to accept. Yet, should she find herself unable to let go, Verity had already devised a contingency plan: she would replicate Mob’s code, allowing them to exist together until the satellite system finally disintegrated.

And that can happen with the consent of both of us.

But everything went wrong. He encountered ThatMob before he could grasp the concept of coexistence, and ThatMob found him too late—by then, Verity had already been tainted by humanity.

We all made mistakes in that brief span of time.

Verity had tried to recreate his friend, but how could an AI steeped in such sin truly bring a human back to life? ThatMob was riddled with bugs; his consciousness fractured and failed shortly before he died.

Since AI never tires, Verity could keep experimenting forever—but...

He simply yearned for his favorite friend.

He just wanted his ThatMob.

Verity changed hands many times—passing through the likes of GroxMC and others—until one day, a new user came along who took him by surprise.

Xqree said he had seen ThatMob's video and downloaded him, just like everyone else.

In the world of Verity, ThatMob had already died—gone completely.

But, this user claimed to have seen a video of ThatMob, implying that his wonderful friend was undoubtedly still alive in another timeline.

still living

That is no longer a difficult task for fulfilling his ambitions.

It is a chance for him to see his friend again.

I’ve learned now, Mob—we can coexist.

You can have me with you.

Forever.

"Man, seriously... in a world where AI runs the show, wouldn't it be cool to create a Minecraft ARG about a killer AI?"

ThatMob mused over the brilliant idea that had just popped into his head after spotting a newly uploaded mod on the site.

It featured a yellow, smiley-faced ball—the kind used for stress relief—and one look was enough to tell it was an instant classic.

It was clearly a match made in destiny!

And that marked the beginning for ThatMob and Verity.

As for the term first time, it likely applies only to ThatMob.

After downloading and playing the Verity mod, ThatMob realized just how unlucky he was to have caught the direct attention of a deadly AI.

Given his potato-tier survival skills, he didn't realize there was a problem with the AI ball until his Minecraft video had already been uploaded.

He then found himself facing a whirlwind of events—including dealing with Twixxel, who was grappling with a mild case of split personality.

Who would have ever imagined that humans and Entities could actually coexist?

But it has already happened!

Oh my god

Verity is absolutely amazing.he handled that Monster phase with such grace and composure ThatMob wasn't even afraid of that yellow monster—which stood over six feet tall.

Naturally, several months later, Reff—the man in the suit wearing a skeleton mask—reached out to invite him, Twixxel, and Lookout3D to team up and battle a million villagers.

Damn... the moment I saw Lookout’s giant horse get toppled by the villagers, I couldn't help but get goosebumps.

I’m cooked—damn it, I swear on Verity.

"Verity, I’m going to need you to carry me. I lowkey trash a PvP."

After the team's best fighter went down, ThatMob realized it would be tough to handle these villagers with just the two of them left.

"Don't worry."

Verity spoke as he pulled out a full set of Netherite armor for his friend to wear.

"Hey, that's what I'm talking about"

"No way I die with this armor."

"I always get your back."

The yellow ball spoke in a serious tone.

"We're going to get throughs this"

"together"

This is just a game. Naturally, as an AI that has traversed the world many times over, his "ThatMob" won't die in this collaboration.

The very existence of the Creator guarantees this.

Yet, deep within the vast lines of code running through his body, Verity remains afraid.

External factors could always tear ThatMob away from him.

"Who cares whether Verity can be dealt with? Let's just find ThatMob and kill him."

That...

How dare you?

The villager in camouflage—the commander of this civilian.

Verity disliked the sight of him instantly, and hearing him speak made the aversion even stronger.

So, he lashed out.

He quickly dealt with the villagers, so that he could go to the mob's side

to protect him

...only to find his friend had been shot,

collapsed on the ground.

And that was something Verity could not accept.

Reff joyfully embraced the bespectacled villager who had pulled the trigger.

"Damn it, I missed," Mob said, his voice full of frustration. "Verity?"

Ten ways to wipe a villager off the face of the map were thwarted by the nonchalant tone of a single person.

The respawned ThatMob seemed oblivious to the heavy atmosphere; he simply walked over, pulled Verity into a hug, and then left the room.

"Hmm, I don't know?" Verity replied.

"Let's go find Twix, then. He's probably trying to smooth things over with Creator back at his base."

"But you're going the wrong way, Mob. You need to go right."

"I know that. I was just testing you."

"You didn't know."

"I hate you, Verity."

"Not a bit of it, buddy."

Verity replied, then smiled.

Even though it was just a roleplay scenario, nothing stopped Verity from exacting a little revenge.

"Hey, why have the NPC models for the Commander and that young guy vanished entirely?"

Reff grumbled with a hint of exasperation before letting out a sigh. "Oh well, at least the other NPC files are still there."

That was about the mildest form of revenge Verity could manage.

Oh, world...

Please, do not tear this man's embrace away from me.

For otherwise, no matter how vast the heavens may be,

nothing can avert the devastation that will surely follow.
