Work Text:
In this climate, work was hard...
In your very own apartment, you found yourself worn out from the cruel work day. Thankfully, it was a Friday, you're off tomorrow, and as you sit down on the edge of your bed, you feel almost relieved from everything pent up over the day. Annoying customers, loud children screaming about sweets, your overbearing manager making you work two shifts out of the blue, those sorts of things. Turning the tv on, you put on something that'd always lighten the mood, maybe even bring a chuckle. Good ol' Looney Tunes. Elmer Fudd trying to hunt that pesky, charismatic "wabbit" you had adored for a long time now, Bugs Bunny. You suddenly get a call, interrupting "poor" Fudd mid-shush.
"heyyy!~ you're still on for the bar, right?"
"..Eh?"
"C'mon, you promised!"
...right.
You had promised to go to the bar with your friends. How could you forget.
"..do I have to? I me-"
"C'mon!!! You deserve this! Your boss's an asshole, now c'mon, get ready, and meet us up at--"
...
You reluctantly agreed. It wasn't like you had disliked this group, they cared about you so so much. They were delights.
So, you went in the shower and washed up. Then, you got dressed, wearing a t-shirt of this band you listen to, big, black jeans, boots, and your favorite jacket. You couldn't remember the type, though you do know it had four different pockets, (two on the inside, two on the outside) it was black, it was cozy and breathable, and it kept the cold out.
You might've went on autopilot for a bit, because next thing you knew you were meeting up with your friend group and getting inside.
Now, you didn't go out much, let alone head out to bars by yourself. You found it would sometimes get loud, or just plain crowded. But one thing you did know was that some establishments had certain rules about Toons. Most didn't allow them at all, but by the looks of it, the one you were at seemed to greet them with open arms, as you look at one of the servers talking to a distant table's party and notice she was a toon herself..
You sat down at the service bar, and ordered a Coke. You were the designated driver, and didn't really like the taste of alcohol anyway.
Then you saw them.
They were familiar, but your head felt foggy and you were half-zoned out; however, you did note they were some sort of rabbit-like toon. That hadn't mattered to you at all, as you couldn't help but stare.
They wore a loose-fitting white dress cinched at the midriff by a belt, the sleeves flowing about as they held their cup, and had beautiful, long, wavy platinum blonde hair that passed their shoulders. Their rabbit ears had peaked out, like a sprout in soil.
They were, to put it simply, beautiful.
Then they turned to look at the bartender, and you had finally realized exactly why they had seemed so familiar.
That was Bugs Bunny. You feel you face heat up, letting out an audible "A." You freeze, his gaze quickly darting towards you. You quickly look away and cover your face with your hands as your mind and everything around you feels as though its passing through at 10x speed.
After a bit, you look up at his stool
He wasn't there. 'How embarrassing..?' You think to yourself, sighing out of relief.
Then you hear it. That iconic Flatbush accent, hushed down for you to hear. Straight in your ear.
"Ehh.. What's up, doc?"
You jump up out of surprise, holding back a squeal; the flush finding it's way back to your head as you try to calm down. You were face to face with Bugs Bunny. God, was he better up close.
"I- I- you're--"
He giggles, putting a hand up to his mouth. You get a better look at his face, he had blue eyeshadow and mascara on, with red lips. You hadn't known he'd done drag outside of his shorts. Truthfully, you loved how good he looked, with or without the look. Now, you were stunned, stuck in place, like a deer in bright headlights.
"What, Doc? Never seen a pretty girl in a dress before?"
You were way too quiet, you decided, already feeling the eyes of bystanders watching.
"I.. uhm.. I just- I like your work. A lot." You decide not to mention the fact you've looked up to him for years and basically have a major crush on him. Though, just from the situation itself, it might have been plain obvious.
"Uh huh.."
The following silence was awkward, you were basically melting in your seat as he looked down at you. He then shrugged and decided to sit in the stool to your right.
You couldn't mess this up. You really couldn't. If you did, you'd be making a fool out of yourself in front of Bugs Bunny. Who would want that? What if he thinks of you not as adorable, but as a creep?
You quickly downed a good half of your Coke, trying to cool down. The bunny seemed to notice what it was you were drinking and smirked.
"Designated driver, eh? Who're ya with?"
"A- uhm. My friends."
"Yeah? Where 're they, then?"
..the rabbit was right, where were they?
You frantically began looking around, before finding the group looking at you from afar, seemingly giggling. You mouth a quick "don't!" Before quickly turning away from them.
"Somewhere back there.."
"Ah, yeah, okay."
"..."
You fiddle around with the straw.
"What, 're ya nervous? Ehh, doc, really, ya don't gotta."
"You're-"
"The cartoon wabbit in drag."/"-beautiful!"
his eyebrows raised.
You paused. Why would you say that, you dunce?
"...you.. Are. Uhm. The sitcom really didn't do you justice, really... Like- I feel like everyone should've and would've known it was you whenever you were dressed up..- at first glance, I mean. And that also you're gorgeous in drag. Did I mention that? Sorry, I think that's important..-"
You were so focused on sounding better, more concise than before, that when you looked back at the celebrity, he seemed to be writing something down on a paper he probably pulled out of his hammerspace.
Bugs put it in your hands. You were too shocked to say a thing.
He got up, getting really close and pecking you on the cheek, only to walk off to his table.
Your heart beats. To you, it felt as if the music quieted down for a minute, that the kiss was longer than it was. He probably left a mark on your cheek, you couldn't care less.
You look at the paper.
A number, it seems. Written in ink.
"Call me! <3"
Waow.
