Chapter 1: Pilot

Chapter Text

The envelope sat tore open and thrown onto the clean, dark-stain wooded desk, the letter sprawled and opened.

“We at Hope’s Peak Academy, have chosen you, Togami Byakuya - The Ultimate Sicon to join us, personally inviting you to attend! We hope to hear back from you, the other Ultimates are waiting!”

“It’s about time my worth has gotten noticed.” He simply scoffed and spoke under his breath, a small smirk forming on his lips. He kept his legs crossed as he sat back in his chair, contemplating to himself. Was it worth his time?  He couldn’t care less for his class, all that mattered to him was his secured future. Surely he’d get in, then he’d be set. Why not? As long as he kept to himself, things should go well.

                       ————-

Hope’s Peak was only the best academy in all of Japan, offering only talented and skilled students a guaranteed-for-life future if they were the best at what they did. Labeled “Ultimates” there were many ranging students studying at Hope’s Peak. Ultimate mechanic, Ultimate gambler, Ultimate programmer, Ultimate Musician and of course, Ultimate prodigy. The list continues since that’s truly only a peek at what Hope’s Peak consists of.

Standing at the front and open gate, Byakuya waltzed in on the agreed date everyone was supposed to meet at, gathering all he needed/ was necessary for his stay here. He was confident as he walked in, and was confident throughout it all. He knew he was superior than most of the students here, and he kept that mindset. Because of course he did.

“Ah- Togami correct? Set your things in your dorm then make your way to the gym for the entrance ceremony, thank you!” The lady at the entrance spoke with a cheerful voice, handing him a keycard with his name written on it. Without a thank you, he gave her a small scowl and huffed off, taking the key.

As he sauntered throughout the hallways, he read the many nameplates as he looked for his own, taking notes. Doing a little bit of research last night on the others attending Hope’s Peak, he recognized some of the numerous names, Ishimaru Kiyotaka- Ultimate moral compass, Kyoko Kirigiri- Ultimate detective and the list continues on. Finding his own, he opened the door with his card, stepping inside and taking a small breath in.

The room wasn’t anything to write home about, it had a bed, nightstand, bathroom, desk and everything you’d find in an academy bedroom. He placed all his items down and set everything up, realizing he shouldn’t stall so much. The ceremony only goes on for so long. It’d be rude to miss it, but again maybe he could be a little late.

Shutting and locking the door behind him, he heard clutter and racket clash as he turned his back, whipping his head around immediately. Across from his dorm seemed to stand- or…could barely stand student, carrying bags and other multiple unnecessary items, now fallen and splattered onto the ground. “Awwhh…man..” He cried, his face red and embarrassed.

His hair was tussled up and pointy, a black blazer layering over his green hoodie, tight black pants just above his red and untied tennis shoes that hardly clung onto his feet.  He tended to clammer and shake his head to himself, Byakuya going unnoticed until he began to stare at this very lousy sight.

“O-oh…H-hey there…” The pitiful brown-headed boy sheepishly greeted him as he stopped inclining himself onto his toppled items, Byakuya scoffing. Pathetic…” Taking one last up and down he turned and walked off, taking a mental note of the dorm he stood in front of. “Naegi”…a name he swore he didn’t remember hearing about. Whoever Naegi certainly was, Byakuya didn’t want a thing to do with him. He was sad to look at.

                          ————-

Sitting where his class remained, he glanced around the gym in aggravation, truly realizing who he was around. He couldn’t be surprised by the lowlifes he was surrounded by, but it was almost infuriating to him. All he could do was observe and watch his mouth.

The entire length of the entrance ceremony was rather tedious, realizing he may actually desire going somewhere else. All it truly consisted of was calling names, celebrating the newcomers, and hosting such and such. Though, in the corner of his eye half way through the ceremony he spotted seemingly one of his classmates, awkwardly stumble into the gym doors. He quickly rushed up to his seat, offensively late and rather clumsy. It was…the same kid as before. Naegi, was it?

He didn’t sit too far away from Togami: reckoning he was in the same class as him. Still, Byakuya couldn’t help but watch him. His entire presence seemed to be exasperating Byakuya, but again he didn’t say a word to him. Just simply observed. He was best at that anyway.

                        ————-

“Man…lame ass ceremony, for such a high school I ‘ssumed they’d be more enthusiastic or ‘sum shit.” Soon after the ceremony the classes all gathered together into groups, chatting all with another. “Well maybe this academy isn’t fit for fools like yourself.” Byakuya retaliated back to one of his classmates, a taller, tanner, and buffer looking student.

“Fuck you just say to me?!” The hotheaded thug called out, marching his way over to Byakuya. “You seem to have ears. Use them, why don’t you.”

ENOUGH FOUL LANGUAGE AND BICKERING!” Another student stepped in between them, a teacher’s pet is really all you could describe him as. “It is all our first day together! Let’s get along and be a good example for the other classes below us!” He rambled, the thug student backing off but not quietly. “Watch your fucking mouth next time, rich kid.”

“Tch…weakling. Couldn’t handle a simple observa-“

EXCUSE ME! I SAID NO BICKERING!

Byakuya’s eye twitched as he glared down the pick-me, letting out a breath through his nose. “Do as you wish, I won’t waste another second with you morons.” Byakuya spat towards the general class, turning his heel.

Surely a little event was going to be held up (if not the class doing it themselves) to celebrate the entering of Hope’s Peak, and Byakuya didn’t desire one moment with any of them or it. Rather, he would prefer to sit in his dorm and or explore the academy. If he was allowed to. Either way- he would walk around, rules never stopped him.

The school was large to say the least, having separate floors for separate rooms, just going higher and higher. Byakuya was becoming fairly amused by the large perimeter, peeking his way through the school.

The large double doors with the header Library intrigued him, taking a glance around and stepping through the doors with a gentle push.

Stacks and shelves were stocked full of books and novels, little tables here and there to sit at whilst reading and other miscellaneous things you’d find in a library. Byakuya was pleased to say the very least.

Trotting around and sliding his slim fingers on the spine of the millions of books, he tugged out ones he was interested in, taking his fair share. Maybe the academy wasn’t too horrid after all.

                          ————-

“Hah…yeah! It was nice hanging out with you!” Someone claimed as Byakuya made his way finally back to his dorm, catching eyes with the familiar face he’d begun to scowl at. “Of course, let’s do this again sometime, Naegi!” A pretty girl cheerily spoke, waving and heading to her dorm. Byakuya locked eyes with the brown headed boy as he met his door, whipping his head and unlocking his own room.

He was seeing that dunce around too much. First day here and he’s already growing a hatred towards useless faces. That boy, Naegi, surely was grinding Byakuya’s gears. Whether it was he stumbled up across him too often or he just wasn’t in a good mood around these people, it was all maddening to him. And knowing he had to be in the same class with these people…it made Byakuya wonder what someone as high as him was doing here.
