Work Text:
In strange rooms nested in stranger halls,
the perfume of decay is inescapable.
Beneath the glass and the stars, there is an
unwilling witness to the cruelty of heaven.
She lies bound in silence, a captive to wicked
circumstances, a prejudiced parable.
Haunted in the garden, enthroned in verdant
velvet, arms aloft as Daphne before Apollo.
She is crowned in laurel, consigned to the
grave, a victim of fatalistic affections.
In strange minutes nested within stranger
hours, the gravity of tragedy is inescapable.
Adorned with cypress, nestled among lilies,
her cold casket provides a false solace.
Veiled in her funeral shroud, dreaming of the
rosy-fingered dawn, she will sleep alone.
